What is Gateways to Eternity?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
Gateways to Eternity adds wave-based combat events called Gateways. You open a giant portal, and it pours out hordes of enemies in a series of waves, each one stronger than the last. Clear a wave and you get rewards, and clearing the whole Gateway earns a completion bonus on top.[1]
This pack includes version 6.0.2 of the mod.[2]
Who it's for
It's for you if you like fighting for your loot. Each Gateway is a timed fight, so it suits players who want a combat challenge with clear rewards instead of wandering around hunting mobs.[1]
How it works at a glance
- Craft a Gate Pearl. This is the item that summons a Gateway, and every Gate Pearl is shown in JEI.[1]
- Check the Gate Pearl's tooltip. It lists the waves, the enemies in each wave, the modifiers applied to all enemies in that wave, and the rewards. The Key Rewards for finishing the whole Gateway are always shown there too.[1]
- Right click a block with the Gate Pearl to summon the Gateway. Use an open area, because a Gateway needs plenty of space.[1]
- Kill every enemy in the wave before the timer runs out. The boss bar shows the remaining enemies, the wave number and the timer.[1]
- Finish the last wave and the Gateway closes, erupting with the Completion Rewards.[1]
Rules and Endless Gateways
Each Gateway follows a set of rules, and any deviation from the defaults is noted on its Gate Pearl. For example, the mod's default spawn range is 8 blocks and the default leash range is 32 blocks.[1]
Some Gateways are Endless. They show a Base Wave and Endless Modifiers instead of a fixed list of waves. They keep getting harder, but they can give infinite rewards if you can keep them open.[1]
Every Gateway is defined in a JSON file that can be changed through a datapack, so a pack can alter or add Gateways.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show whether this pack changes any Gateway definitions or rules from the mod's defaults, so the values above are the mod's own defaults. They also don't show where Gateways fit in this pack's progression. The mod isn't on the ATM Star path, and no quests in this pack involve it.
How do you get started with Gateways to Eternity?
3 parts
Welcome to Gateways to Eternity! This mod adds wave-based combat events called Gateways: giant portals that pour out hordes of enemies, each wave stronger than the last. Finishing a wave gives rewards, and finishing the whole Gateway gives a completion bonus. Everything starts with one item.[1]
First: craft a Gate Pearl
The Gate Pearl is the item that summons a Gateway into your world. You craft the pearl for the Gateway you want to fight.[1][3]
Every Gate Pearl recipe is listed in JEI, so that is the quickest place to browse them. Here is the Gateway of Overworldian Nights, which the mod uses as its own example.[1]

Next: read the tooltip before you use it
Do not skip this one. The Gate Pearl's tooltip tells you everything about the Gateway you are about to open, so you know what you are walking into.[1]
- Wave Data lists every wave. Scroll your mouse wheel to cycle through them. Each wave shows its enemies, its modifiers (bonuses applied to all enemies in that wave) and its rewards.[1]
- Key Rewards are the bonus prizes for completing the whole Gateway, on top of the wave rewards. They are always shown on the tooltip.[1]
- Any change to the usual Gateway rules is noted on the Gate Pearl as well.[1]
- Endless Gateways never end on their own. Their tooltip shows a Base Wave and one or more Endless Modifiers instead of a normal wave list.[1][3]
Then: open the Gateway
Use the Gate Pearl on a block to summon the Gateway. It only works if the new Gateway would not be too close to another one, based on the current spacing, so give each fight its own room.[3]
Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you earn them, so you do not have to wait until the end to collect.[3]
How does Gateways to Eternity work?
7 parts
Gateways to Eternity is about wave-based combat events called Gateways. Everything starts from one item, the Gate Pearl, which summons a Gateway where you use it. This section follows how the mod's project page describes opening, fighting, failing and finishing a Gateway.[1]
Opening a Gateway
The mod's page says to hold a Gate Pearl and right click a block to summon a Gateway. A Gateway needs a sizable amount of space, so don't do it in an enclosed area. If there isn't enough room, the game tells you there's not enough space to open the Gateway.[1][3]
A Gate Pearl also can't be used if the new Gateway would be too close to another one, based on the current spacing. Gateways may never overlap directly.[1][3]
The pack has many Gate Pearl recipes, and each one makes a Gate Pearl.[4]
The mod's page uses the Gateway of Overworldian Nights as its example recipe, and says all Gate Pearls are shown in JEI.[1]

Reading the Gate Pearl
The mod's page says the Gate Pearl's tooltip tells you about the Gateway before you summon it: how many waves it has, which entities are in each wave and what rewards you'll get. You can cycle through the waves with the scroll wheel.[1]
Each wave on the tooltip shows Enemies, Modifiers and Rewards. Enemies are the mobs that spawn. Modifiers are bonuses applied to all enemies in that wave. Rewards are what you receive when the wave is completed. The tooltip also always shows the key rewards for completing the whole Gateway.[1]
Fighting a wave
As the mod's page describes it, you complete a wave by killing all the wave enemies before time runs out. The boss bar at the top of the screen shows the remaining enemies, the current wave number and the wave timer. After a wave, a short cooldown passes before the next one spawns.[1]
The mod's page says wave rewards spawn from the Gateway slowly over time. When you finish the last wave, its rewards spawn, then the Gateway closes and the completion rewards come out all at once in a big eruption of loot and experience.[1][3]
How a Gateway fails
A Gateway that fails implodes in a burst of lightning. These are the failure messages the mod can show:[1][3]
- No player nearby.[3]
- You ran out of lives.[3]
- A wave entity ran too far away.[3]
- A wave entity was removed without being killed.[3]
- There wasn't enough space to spawn the next wave.[3]
- The wave timer expired.[3]
The mod's page calls successful completion of the Gateway the only appropriate method to close it without causing some sort of damage to your world, so pick an open field.[1]
Gate rules
The mod's page lists a set of rules that define how a Gateway behaves, with a default value for each. It says any deviation from them is noted on the Gate Pearl.[1]
- Spawn Range: the radius in blocks around the Gateway's edges where mobs may spawn. Default 8.[1]
- Leash Range: how far from the Gateway's center a wave entity may be before out-of-bounds rules trigger. Default 32.[1]
- Allow Discarding: whether entities marked as discarded count as valid kills. The mod's default is false.[1]
- Allow Dimensional Changes: whether entities marked as having changed dimension count as valid kills. The mod's default is false.[1]
- Player Damage Only: whether wave entities can only be hurt by damage sourced to a player. Default false.[1]
- Remove on Failure: whether wave entities are removed if the Gateway fails. The mod's default is true.[1]
- Fail on Out-of-Bounds: if true, going out of bounds fails the Gateway. If false, the entity is placed again using the spawn algorithm. The mod's default is false.[1]
- Spacing: how far the Gateway must be from another Gateway. The mod's default is 0.[1]
Unverified The sources here do not show the exact rule values for each Gateway in this pack, since the pack has no config file for this mod. Check the tooltip on the Gate Pearl you are about to use, because it notes any deviation from the defaults.
Endless Gateways
Some Gateways are Endless and never finish on their own. Instead of a normal wave list, their Gate Pearl tooltip shows a Base Wave and one or more Endless Modifiers, which dictate how the Gateway changes over time. They get harder the longer they stay open, but can give infinitely many rewards if you can keep them open long enough. The tooltip also shows how many Endless Modifiers the Gateway has.[1][3]
Pack-specific note
The pack's own script checks players every 20 ticks. If you hold a Gate Pearl in your main hand or off hand, it grants you the ftb:gatekeeper_wares stage, along with an advancement called open_for_business.[5]

What the pack does with Gate Pearls
The pack's script checks your main hand and off hand for a Gate Pearl. When it finds one, it grants you the gatekeeper wares stage. A pearl sitting elsewhere in your inventory does not trigger that check.[5]
What changed in Gateways to Eternity between versions?
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Gateways to Eternity version 6.0.2. The mod was already in the pack by 1.0.2 or earlier, so it has been there since the early releases.[6]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod that the sources here show, and the mod's own 6.0.2 changelog is not reproduced in them either. What changed between releases is therefore not confirmed here. Check the mod's own changelog for the details.
