What is Gateways to Eternity?
3 parts
Gateways to Eternity adds wave-based combat events called Gateways. You open a giant portal, and it pours out hordes of enemies in a series of waves, each one stronger than the last. Clear a wave and you get rewards, and clearing the whole Gateway earns a completion bonus on top.[1]
This pack includes version 6.0.2 of the mod.[2]
Who it's for
It's for you if you like fighting for your loot. Each Gateway is a timed fight, so it suits players who want a combat challenge with clear rewards instead of wandering around hunting mobs.[1]
How it works at a glance
- Craft a Gate Pearl. This is the item that summons a Gateway, and every Gate Pearl is shown in JEI.[1]
- Check the Gate Pearl's tooltip. It lists the waves, the enemies in each wave, the modifiers applied to all enemies in that wave, and the rewards. The Key Rewards for finishing the whole Gateway are always shown there too.[1]
- Right click a block with the Gate Pearl to summon the Gateway. Use an open area, because a Gateway needs plenty of space.[1]
- Kill every enemy in the wave before the timer runs out. The boss bar shows the remaining enemies, the wave number and the timer.[1]
- Finish the last wave and the Gateway closes, erupting with the Completion Rewards.[1]
Rules and Endless Gateways
Each Gateway follows a set of rules, and any deviation from the defaults is noted on its Gate Pearl. For example, the mod's default spawn range is 8 blocks and the default leash range is 32 blocks.[1]
Some Gateways are Endless. They show a Base Wave and Endless Modifiers instead of a fixed list of waves. They keep getting harder, but they can give infinite rewards if you can keep them open.[1]
Every Gateway is defined in a JSON file that can be changed through a datapack, so a pack can alter or add Gateways.[1]
Unverified The sources don't show whether this pack changes any Gateway definitions or rules from the mod's defaults, so the values above are the mod's own defaults. They also don't show where Gateways fit in this pack's progression. The mod isn't on the ATM Star path, and no quests in this pack involve it.
How do you get started with Gateways to Eternity?
4 parts
Welcome to Gateways to Eternity! This mod adds giant portals called Gateways that pour out hordes of enemies in waves, each stronger than the last. Finishing a wave gives you rewards, and finishing the whole Gateway gives a completion bonus. Everything starts with one item.[1]
First: craft a Gate Pearl
The Gate Pearl is what summons a Gateway into your world, so it's the first thing you need. The pack has many Gate Pearl recipes, and you can browse every Gate Pearl in JEI.[1][3]
The mod's own page uses the Gateway of Overworldian Nights as its example, so that's a good one to look up first. This is the recipe the pack uses for it:[1][3]

Next: read the tooltip before you summon
Hover over your Gate Pearl. Its tooltip shows how many waves the Gateway has, which enemies are in each wave, the modifiers applied to every enemy in that wave, and the rewards for completing it. You can cycle through the waves with the scroll wheel. The special bonus rewards for finishing the whole Gateway are always shown too.[1]
If a Gateway changes any of the mod's usual rules, such as its spawn range or leash range, that is noted on the pearl. Check it so you know what you're walking into.[1]
Then: use it on a block
To summon the Gateway, use the pearl on a block. It only works if the new Gateway wouldn't be too close to another one, based on the current spacing.[4]
Rewards spawn from the Gateway as you earn them, so keep an eye out for drops after each wave.[4]
Endless Gateways
Some Gateways are Endless, which means they never end on their own. You can usually spot one by its name, and its Gate Pearl tooltip shows a Base Wave and one or more Endless Modifiers instead of the usual wave list. The pack has Gate Pearl recipes under the endless path, like these:[1][3]

How does Gateways to Eternity work?
7 parts
Gateways to Eternity is not a machine mod. As the mod describes itself, everything revolves around one item, the Gate Pearl, and the wave-based fights it starts. You use a Gate Pearl to open a portal, mobs pour out in waves, and you collect rewards as you clear them.[1]
Summoning a Gateway
Hold a Gate Pearl and right click a block to summon a Gateway. A Gate Pearl can only be used when the new Gateway would not be too close to another Gateway, based on the spacing that applies at the moment you use it. Gateways may never overlap directly.[1][4]
A Gateway needs a sizable amount of space to work properly, so don't use it in an enclosed area. Open fields are preferred.[1]
Getting Gate Pearls
Gate Pearls are summoned by the Gate Pearl item, and all Gate Pearls are shown in JEI. The recipe list for this pack includes Gate Pearl recipes for Overworldian Nights, Hellish Fortress, Emerald Grove, Iron Automaton, some basic ones and some endless variants. Further tiered ones are registered under the Apotheosis namespace. Here are some examples:[1][3]

Reading a Gate Pearl
Before you summon anything, check the pearl's tooltip. It can tell you how many waves the Gateway has, which enemies are part of each wave, and what rewards you will receive. The Wave Data can be cycled with the scroll wheel.[1]
- Enemies: the mobs spawned during that wave.[1]
- Modifiers: bonuses applied to all wave enemies.[1]
- Rewards: what you receive when that wave is completed.[1]
- Key rewards: the special completion bonus, which is always shown on the Gate Pearl's tooltip.[1]
Completing waves
To complete a wave, kill all the wave enemies before time runs out. The boss bar at the top of the screen shows the number of remaining enemies, the current wave number and the wave timer.[1]
When you complete a wave, a short cooldown occurs before the next wave spawns. The wave rewards spawn from the Gateway as they are obtained.[1][4]
When you finish the last wave, the wave rewards spawn, and once that is done the Gateway closes and the completion rewards spawn where it stood. They come out all at once in a huge eruption of loot and experience.[1]
Gate rules
Each Gateway follows a set of rules. The values below are the mod's defaults, and any deviation from them is noted on the Gate Pearl, so trust the tooltip over this list.[1]
- Spawn Range: the radius in blocks around the Gateway, from its edges, in which mobs may spawn. Default 8.[1]
- Leash Range: how far a wave entity may be from the center of the Gateway before out-of-bounds rules are triggered. Default 32.[1]
- Allow Discarding: whether entities marked as discarded are counted as valid kills. Default false.[1]
- Allow Dimensional Changes: whether entities marked as changed dimension are counted as valid kills. Default false.[1]
- Player Damage Only: whether wave entities may only be hurt by damage sourced to a player. Default false.[1]
- Remove on Failure: whether wave entities are removed if the Gateway fails. Default true.[1]
- Fail on Out-of-Bounds: if true, the Gateway fails when out-of-bounds rules are triggered. If false, the entity is re-placed using the spawn algorithm. Default false.[1]
- Spacing: the distance this Gateway must be placed from another Gateway. Default 0.[1]
Endless Gateways
Some Gateways are Endless, meaning they do not terminate naturally. You can usually spot them by their name, and always by the Gate Pearl tooltip, which shows a Base Wave and one or more Endless Modifiers instead of the usual wave definition. The tooltip also shows how many Endless Modifiers there are.[1][4]
These Gateways get progressively more difficult, but can provide infinitely many rewards if you can keep them open for long enough.[1]
Pack-specific notes
Unverified The sources here show no config files for this mod in the pack. Whether the pack changes any default gate rules, wave contents or rewards (for example through datapacks) is not shown, so check each Gate Pearl's tooltip in game for the real values.
How do you progress through Gateways to Eternity?
4 parts
In this pack, the thing you craft for Gateways to Eternity is the Gate Pearl. Every recipe in the pack dump for this mod produces a Gate Pearl, and each recipe id is named after a different gate. The recipe ids are the only progression signal the sources give, so this section walks through them by naming group.[3]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest that involves Gateways to Eternity, and they do not give a required order, difficulty ranking or reward for each gate. Check the pack's quest book yourself for anything on this mod. The groups below are not a ranked tier list.
