What is FTB Pack Companion?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide
This pack ships with FTB Pack Companion version 21.1.22, using the file ftb-pack-companion-21.1.22.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified What FTB Pack Companion actually does in this pack could not be confirmed. No description or in-jar guidebook was available for this mod, so this page doesn't guess at its features.
How do you get started with FTB Pack Companion?
3 parts
FTB Pack Companion is a small helper mod. It doesn't add a tech tree or a progression of its own. The one thing it gives you to craft in this pack is the Action Pad, so that's your first stop.[2][3]
Step 1: Craft the Action Pad
The pack adds its own shapeless crafting recipe for the Action Pad. The recipe below is the exact in-pack version, so use it rather than a recipe you remember from elsewhere.[2]
Added by the pack as a shapeless crafting recipe.
Step 2: Decide on shaders
The shaders notice is switched on at world start in this pack (shaders_notice.show_on_start is true). If shaders are included, you get a prompt asking whether to enable them. They are disabled by default, and the prompt warns they can be performance-intensive, cause issues with certain mods, and may not suit your hardware.[3][4]
If you say yes and run into problems, you can turn them off again later in the video settings. The pack leaves shaders_notice.shader_pack_to_use empty, so the default or first available shader pack is used.[3][4]
Good to know early
- Broken spawners are not remembered or respawned, because spawners.allow_respawn is false in this pack. The other spawner options, including spawners.punish_for_breaking_spawners, are also off.[4]
- Wandering Traders keep their normal behaviour with invisibility potions, since misc.no_wandering_trader_invis_potions is false.[4]
- The pack also keeps removal lists for recipes from other mods. For example, the Energized Power list includes steel and tin crafting recipes. If a recipe you expect from one of those mods is missing, a removal list is the likely reason.[5]
Unverified The full recipe lists for the larger removal files (ftbic.json, ic.json, occultism.json, oritech.json and others in config/ftbpc/removals) are set in those files, and the sources here do not show their contents.
How does FTB Pack Companion work?
5 parts
FTB Pack Companion is not a machine mod. In this pack the sources show it as a set of pack-wide tweaks driven by config files: spawner behaviour, a shaders prompt, command feedback filtering and per-mod recipe removal lists. There are no power, fluid or item-handling systems to automate here, so this section covers the settings and the one recipe that the sources document.[2][4][6]
The Action Pad
The one item with a documented recipe is the Action Pad. The pack adds its recipe itself, as a shapeless crafting recipe. The block below shows the exact in-pack recipe.[2]
Added by the pack as a shapeless crafting recipe.
The mod's language file also names the Random Portal and Player Trigger blocks and the Structure Placer item.[3]
Spawner rules
The common config has a group of spawner options. In this pack every one of them is switched off or left empty, and each matches the mod's stated default. Here is what each one does if you turn it on.[4]
- spawners.allow_respawn: when enabled, broken spawner blocks are remembered and respawn at a set interval. Pack value: false.[4]
- spawners.respawn_interval: the respawn interval in minutes. The pack uses 60, and the allowed range is 0 to 1,440.[4]
- spawners.break_light_sources_near_spawners: when enabled, light sources near spawners are broken so mobs can spawn. Pack value: false.[4]
- spawners.ignore_light_level_for_spawners: when enabled, the light level around spawners is ignored for mob spawning. Pack value: false.[4]
- spawners.punish_for_breaking_spawners: applies a punishment effect when a player breaks a spawner. Pack value: false.[4]
- spawners.random_entity: a list of entity types used to replace broken spawners. The pack leaves it empty, which disables it.[4]
Shaders prompt and small tweaks
The pack includes shaders but keeps them disabled by default, and the mod can ask you whether to enable them. The prompt text warns that shaders can be performance-intensive, cause issues with certain mods and may not suit your hardware. If you enable them and hit problems, you can turn them off again in the video settings.[3]
shaders_notice.show_on_start is true in this pack, while the mod's stated default is false, so the pack turned the prompt on. shaders_notice.shader_pack_to_use is left empty, which means the default or first available shader pack is used.[4]
A few other values are set too. misc.no_wandering_trader_invis_potions is false, so Wandering Traders keep their normal behaviour with invisibility potions. The forced game rule misc.forced_game_rules.minecraft:global_sound_events is false, and the spawn pyramid structure rotation override is set to "none".[4]
Command feedback filtering
On servers, command_feedback_filtering.blacklisted_ops holds a list of operator UUIDs whose command feedback is hidden from other operators. If the list is empty the feature is disabled. This pack fills the list in.[6]
command_feedback_filtering.hidden_command_feedback_keys decides which feedback messages are hidden. Entries are translation keys checked by prefix, so commands.give.success also matches commands.give.success.single. The pack hides feedback for commands such as give, gamemode, teleport, summon, setblock, fill, time and weather.[6]
Per-mod removal lists
The folder config/ftbpc/removals holds one JSON file per other mod, each a list of recipe-style ids. A few examples from this pack: lists three charger entries, lists red_alloy_ingot, and lists steel_compound and steel_ingot.[7][8][9]
Most of the longer lists cover metal processing for ores such as copper, iron, gold, tin, silver and titanium. See , and for the biggest ones. Smaller files cover single recipes, for example and .[5][10][11][12][13]
Unverified The removal files for oritech, cakesticklib, hephaestus, ic, occultism and ftbic exist in the pack under config/ftbpc/removals, but the sources here do not show their contents. Check those files if you need to know exactly which entries they list.
How do you progress through FTB Pack Companion?
For FTB Pack Companion, this pack gives you one thing to look at: the Action Pad. There is no tier ladder to climb here, just a single item with a recipe the pack added itself.[2]
The recipe is a shapeless crafting recipe, and the pack's recipe dump lists no item inputs for it. The site shows the exact in-pack recipe below.[2]

Which FTB Pack Companion config options matter?
4 parts
FTB Pack Companion is configured through a common config, a server config and a folder of per-mod removal lists. Most of its spawner and trader options sit at their defaults in this pack, so the values below matter mainly for the few spots where the pack changed something.[4][6]
Common config: what the pack changed
- shaders_notice.show_on_start is true in this pack. The mod default is false. When it is enabled, the shaders notice is shown on world start if shaders are included in the pack.[4]
- shaders_notice.shader_pack_to_use is left empty, which means the default or first available shader pack is used.[4]
- worldgen.structure_rotation_override.ftb:spawn_pyramid/start is set to "none".[4]
- misc.forced_game_rules.minecraft:global_sound_events is set to false.[4]
Common config: spawner options
All the spawner features are switched off in this pack, the same as the mod default. spawners.allow_respawn, spawners.break_light_sources_near_spawners, spawners.ignore_light_level_for_spawners and spawners.punish_for_breaking_spawners are all false, and spawners.random_entity is an empty list.[4]
If you or a server owner turn on respawning, spawners.respawn_interval is 60 minutes in this pack (also the mod default) and accepts values from 0 to 1,440.[4]
misc.no_wandering_trader_invis_potions is false, which is the default, so Wandering Traders can still drink invisibility potions at night.[4]
Server config: command feedback filtering
This is where the pack departs most from the mod defaults. command_feedback_filtering.blacklisted_ops is a list of operator UUIDs whose command feedback is hidden from other operators. The default is an empty list, which disables the feature, but this pack fills it in.[6]
command_feedback_filtering.hidden_command_feedback_keys is also filled in, where the default is empty. Entries are translation keys matched by prefix, so commands.give.success also catches commands.give.success.single. The pack hides feedback for commands such as give, gamemode, teleport, time, weather and reload.[6]
Removal files
The pack also ships a removals file per mod in config/ftbpc/removals. Each one is a list of entry names. For example, lists red_alloy_ingot, lists steel_compound and steel_ingot, and lists copper_plate, copper_wire and iron_plate.[8][9][14]
Some lists are short: lists energizing/uraninite_from_ore and energizing/uraninite_from_ore_dense. Others are much longer, such as and , and has its own list as well.[7][10][12][15]
Unverified The removals files for ic, occultism and ftbic also exist in config/ftbpc/removals, but their contents are not shown in the sources here, so what they list is unverified.
