What is Chisel 3?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide
Chisel 3 is a building mod. It adds a huge variety of static blocks, so it is most useful if you enjoy the construction side of modded Minecraft.[1]
This pack includes Chisel 3 version 26.1.2.18.[2]
How it works
Most of the new blocks come through one tool, the chisel. Right click with it to open the chisel GUI, then place a block in the middle. You can turn it into other blocks of the same type.[1]
Extra throwables
The mod project page describes two more items, which you throw with a right click, the same way as snowballs. Each one does something different on impact.[1]
- Ball O' Moss: mossifies nearby blocks, for example turning Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick, and the same with cobblestone.[1]
- Cloud in a Bottle: creates a large amount of clouds on impact.[1]
The project page also says smashing rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area.[1]
How do you get started with Chisel 3?
5 parts
Chisel is all about building blocks: it adds a huge variety of static blocks, and access to the new ones comes mostly through one tool. So your first job in this pack is simple: make the chisel.[1]
Step 1: Make the Chisel
The Chisel is the key to the whole mod. Right click with it and the chisel screen opens. Put a block in the middle and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type.[1]

This is the in-pack recipe for the basic chisel.
This pack tones the iron chisel down a little. ironChiselHasModes is false, so it has no chisel modes, and ironChiselCanLeftClick is false, so you can't left click blocks in the world with it. Chisel tools also wear out here, because allowChiselDamage is true. The iron chisel's durability is 512.[4][5]
Step 2: Find stone to carve
Chisel has its own stones that generate in the world. In this pack limestone and marble both generate between Y 0 and Y 60, and diabase generates between Y -64 and Y 0. Basalt generation is switched off in the config.[4]
If you would rather not dig for it, Mystical Agriculture has recipes that make Limestone and Marble, 6 at a time.[3]

Step 3: Upgrade your chisel
Once you are chiselling a lot, the pack has recipes for the Diamond Chisel and the Obsidian Chisel. The config lists larger durability values for both than for the iron chisel, so they last much longer.[3][5]

Step 4: Automate it
The Auto Chisel does the carving for you. In this pack it accepts Forge Energy (autoChiselPowered is true), but it does not need power to work (autoChiselNeedsPower is false).[3][4]

Fun extras
Chisel also adds throwable items that you use like snowballs. The Ball O' Moss mossifies nearby blocks on impact, for example turning Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick. The Cloud in a Bottle creates a large amount of clouds, and Smashing Rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area.[1][3]

How does Chisel 3 work?
6 parts
Chisel 3 is built around one tool, the Chisel, and the decorative blocks you turn into other variants with it. Below is what the sources confirm for this pack, including the config values the pack sets.[1]
Carving with the chisel
Right-click with the chisel to open its GUI. Put a block in the middle slot and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type. This is how you reach most of the mod's blocks.[1]

The basic chisel recipe in this pack.
Here is what the pack's config files say about chisel wear and damage, one option at a time.[4][5]
- allowChiselDamage is true, so chisel tools take damage when used.[4]
- ironChiselMaxDamage is 512, the mod default, for the basic chisel.[4]
- ironChiselAttackDamage is 2, the mod default.[4]
- general.iron_chisel_durability is 512 in the other chisel config file.[5]
- diamondChiselMaxDamage is 5056 for the Diamond Chisel, the mod default.[3][4]
- diamondChiselAttackDamage is 3, the mod default.[4]
- general.diamond_chisel_durability is 5096 in the other chisel config file. It is a different file with a different value from the diamond entry above, and the sources here do not say which one wins.[5]
- hitechChiselMaxDamage is 10,048 for the iChisel (hitech chisel), the mod default.[4]
- hitechChiselAttackDamage is 3, the mod default.[4]
- general.obsidian_chisel_durability is 10,048 for the Obsidian Chisel.[3][5]
Chisel behaviour options
- ironChiselCanLeftClick is false, so the basic chisel cannot left-click chisel blocks in the world.[4]
- ironChiselHasModes is false, so the basic chisel has no access to chisel modes.[4]
- carvingCooldownTicks is 4 ticks (0.2 seconds) between carving actions, which is the mod default.[4]
Auto Chisel
The Auto Chisel is the mod's automation block. In this pack it accepts Forge Energy (autoChiselPowered is true), but it does not need power to work (autoChiselNeedsPower is false). The sources here do not describe its GUI or item handling.[3][4]

Thrown items
The Ball O' Moss and the Cloud in a Bottle are thrown like snowballs when you right-click. Ball O' Moss mossifies nearby blocks, for example turning Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick, and the same with Cobblestone. Cloud in a Bottle creates a large amount of clouds where it lands.[1][3]

Ultimine and concrete
FTB Ultimine support is on (enableUltimineCompat). With ultimineGroupVariants enabled, using Ultimine with a chisel selects blocks of the same type together.[4]
Walking on concrete blocks makes you faster. concreteVelocityMult is 1.35, the mod default. Concrete is made by smelting.[3][4]
World generation
The pack config makes limestone and marble generate between Y 0 and Y 60, with 1 vein per chunk and a maximum vein size of 48. Diabase is enabled between Y -64 and Y 0 with the same vein count and size. Basalt generation is disabled in this pack.[4]
You can also craft Limestone and Marble through Mystical Agriculture essence recipes, which give 6 of each.[3]
How do you progress through Chisel 3?
4 parts
Chisel 3 has no tier ladder in this pack. What you get is a set of crafting recipes, and the recipe blocks below show the exact in-pack ingredients.[3]
The chisels
You can craft the Chisel, the Diamond Chisel and the Obsidian Chisel. The sources here do not say how they differ in use.[3]

The mossy stones (Mossy Stone, Mossy Deepslate and Mossy Blackstone) are shapeless crafts. So are the colored lights, such as Black Light, which gives 8 per craft.[3]
Decorative block sets
Most of the other items are decorative blocks made in batches. Antiblock, Voidstone and Technical Block each give 8 per craft. Kitchen Block and Liminal Block give 16, while Factory Block and Tyrian give 32. The framed glass variants give 8 per craft, in both oak and steel frames.[3]

Which Chisel 3 config options matter?
5 parts
Here are the Chisel 3 settings you are most likely to want to check. Every numeric option in the pack's config shows the same value as the mod default, so the pack has not changed any of these numbers. The on/off options below are listed as the pack sets them.[4][5]
Chisel durability and damage
Chisel tools take damage when used, because allowChiselDamage is true in this pack.[4]
- Iron chisel: ironChiselMaxDamage is 512 and ironChiselAttackDamage is 2.[4]
- Diamond chisel: diamondChiselMaxDamage is 5,056 and diamondChiselAttackDamage is 3.[4]
- Hitech chisel (the iChisel): hitechChiselMaxDamage is 10,048 and hitechChiselAttackDamage is 3.[4]
There is also a second file, config/chisel_common.toml, with its own durability settings. general.iron_chisel_durability is 512, general.diamond_chisel_durability is 5,096 and general.obsidian_chisel_durability is 10,048. Note that the diamond figure here (5,096) differs from the 5,056 in the other file.[4][5]
Chisel behaviour
- ironChiselCanLeftClick is false, so the iron chisel cannot left-click chisel blocks in the world.[4]
- ironChiselHasModes is false, so the iron chisel has no access to chisel modes.[4]
- carvingCooldownTicks is 4 ticks, which is 0.2 seconds between carving actions.[4]
Auto chisel
autoChiselPowered is true, so the auto chisel accepts Forge Energy (FE). autoChiselNeedsPower is false, so it does not require power to function.[4]
World generation
Diabase, limestone and marble generation are all enabled. Basalt generation is disabled via worldgen.basalt.enabled in this pack. Here is how each one is set up.[4]
- Marble: worldgen.marble.minY is 0 and worldgen.marble.maxY is 60. worldgen.marble.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.marble.veinSize is 48.[4]
- Limestone: worldgen.limestone.minY is 0 and worldgen.limestone.maxY is 60. worldgen.limestone.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.limestone.veinSize is 48.[4]
- Diabase: worldgen.diabase.minY is -64 and worldgen.diabase.maxY is 0. worldgen.diabase.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.diabase.veinSize is 48.[4]
- Basalt, if you turn it on: worldgen.basalt.minY is -64 and worldgen.basalt.maxY is 0. worldgen.basalt.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.basalt.veinSize is 48.[4]
FTB Ultimine and movement
enableUltimineCompat is true, so the FTB Ultimine integration is on (it needs FTB Ultimine installed). ultimineGroupVariants is also true, so Ultimine selects blocks of the same type together when you use it with a chisel.[4]
Walking on concrete blocks gives a speed multiplier set by concreteVelocityMult, which is 1.35 in this pack.[4]
What changed in Chisel 3 between versions?
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Chisel 3 version 26.1.2.19. The mod was first included in FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition in this release.[6]
The mod's own changelogs for 26.1.2.19 and the previous 26.1.2.18 both say that no changelog was specified. That means there are no listed changes to report between those two versions.[7][8]
Unverified Whether the FTB Evolution 2 release notes mention Chisel 3 at all is not shown in the sources here, so any pack-level changes to this mod are unverified.
