What is Chisel 3?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide
Chisel 3 is a building mod. It adds a huge variety of static blocks, so it is most useful if you enjoy the construction side of modded Minecraft.[1]
This pack includes Chisel 3 version 26.1.2.18.[2]
How it works
Most of the new blocks come through one tool, the chisel. Right click with it to open the chisel GUI, then place a block in the middle. You can turn it into other blocks of the same type.[1]
Extra throwables
The mod project page describes two more items, which you throw with a right click, the same way as snowballs. Each one does something different on impact.[1]
- Ball O' Moss: mossifies nearby blocks, for example turning Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick, and the same with cobblestone.[1]
- Cloud in a Bottle: creates a large amount of clouds on impact.[1]
The project page also says smashing rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area.[1]
How do you get started with Chisel 3?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide
Chisel 3 adds a huge variety of static blocks, and almost all of them come from one tool: the Chisel. If you like building, this is the first thing to make.[1]
Step 1: Craft the Chisel

Recipe id: chisel:chisel_iron
This is the in-pack recipe for the Chisel, your key tool for the mod.
Right click with the chisel to open its GUI. Put a block in the middle slot and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type. Try it on a few of your building blocks to see the variants on offer.[1]
Step 2: Make the throwable items
Chisel also adds a few items you throw like snowballs by right clicking. They are cheap to try and fun for decorating.[1]

The Ball O' Moss mossifies nearby blocks when it lands.
For example, the Ball O' Moss turns Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick, and does the same to Cobblestone. It is a quick way to age a build.[1]

The Cloud in a Bottle creates a large amount of clouds on impact.
Crafting Shapeless
- Stone Pickaxe
- Glass Bottle
- Stone Shovel
Recipe id: chisel:smashingrock
One craft gives 16 Smashing Rock.
Smashing Rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area, which is handy for rough, ruined looks.[1]
Step 3: Get Limestone and Marble
In this pack, Limestone and Marble have recipes that come from Mystical Agriculture. Each craft gives you 6 blocks.[3]

There are also four upgrade items you can craft: Speed Upgrade, Stack Upgrade, Automation Upgrade and Reversion Upgrade.[3]
How does Chisel 3 work?
7 parts
Chisel is a building mod, so its core mechanics are about swapping blocks for other variants rather than running a factory. Most of what you do goes through a single tool, with a few throwable items and a powered block, the Auto Chisel, on the side. Everything below is limited to what the pack's files and the mod's project page confirm.[1][4]
Chiseling blocks
Right clicking with the Chisel opens the chisel screen. Put a block in the middle slot and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type. That is how you reach almost all of the mod's decorative variants.[1]

Tool settings in this pack
- allowChiselDamage is true, so chisel tools take damage when you use them.[4]
- ironChiselCanLeftClick is false, so the basic chisel cannot left-click chisel blocks in the world.[4]
- ironChiselHasModes is false, so the basic chisel has no access to chisel modes.[4]
- carvingCooldownTicks is 4 ticks, which is 0.2 seconds between carving actions. That matches the mod default.[4]
- ironChiselAttackDamage is 2, which matches the mod default.[4]
- diamondChiselAttackDamage is 3, which matches the mod default.[4]
- hitechChiselAttackDamage is 3, which matches the mod default.[4]
- ironChiselMaxDamage is 512, which matches the mod default.[4]
- diamondChiselMaxDamage is 5,056, which matches the mod default.[4]
- hitechChiselMaxDamage is 10,048, which matches the mod default.[4]
- A second file, config/chisel_common.toml, lists general.iron_chisel_durability as 512, general.diamond_chisel_durability as 5,096 and general.obsidian_chisel_durability as 10,048. Note that its diamond value differs from the 5,056 in the other file.[4][6]
Auto Chisel
The Auto Chisel is the mod's machine. In this pack autoChiselPowered is true, so it accepts Forge Energy (FE), but autoChiselNeedsPower is false, so it does not require power to function.[4]

FTB Ultimine and concrete
enableUltimineCompat is true, so the FTB Ultimine integration is on (it needs FTB Ultimine installed). ultimineGroupVariants is also true, so when you use Ultimine with a chisel it selects blocks of the same type together.[4]
Walking on chisel concrete speeds you up by a factor of 1.35, set by concreteVelocityMult. That is the mod default.[4]
World generation
Chisel can generate its own stone in the world. Here is how each one is set in this pack, and every value matches the mod default.[4]
- Limestone: worldgen.limestone.enabled is true, with worldgen.limestone.minY at 0 and worldgen.limestone.maxY at 60. worldgen.limestone.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.limestone.veinSize is 48.[4]
- Marble: worldgen.marble.enabled is true, with worldgen.marble.minY at 0 and worldgen.marble.maxY at 60. worldgen.marble.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.marble.veinSize is 48.[4]
- Diabase: worldgen.diabase.enabled is true, with worldgen.diabase.minY at -64 and worldgen.diabase.maxY at 0. worldgen.diabase.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.diabase.veinSize is 48.[4]
- Basalt: worldgen.basalt.enabled is false, so basalt does not generate.[4]
A biome modifier in the mod's jar adds a limestone feature to Overworld biomes at the underground decoration step.[7]
If you would rather not dig for them, Mystical Agriculture has recipes for Limestone and Marble. The limestone recipe makes 6 Limestone and the marble recipe makes 6 Marble.[5]

Breaking decorative blocks
The block loot tables from the mod's jar that are shown here, such as the acacia plank and aluminum variants, give back the block itself. They use only a survives-explosion condition.[8][9][10]
How do you progress through Chisel 3?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide
The sources for this pack cover the in-pack recipes and a sample of block loot tables, so this page walks through what you can craft, starting with the chisels themselves and moving on to automation and building blocks.[3]

Craftable building blocks
Many of the decorative block families can be crafted directly, and the recipes give you several blocks per craft. Here is what each recipe makes:[3]
- 8 Antiblock per craft.[3]
- 8 each of Voidstone and Energized Voidstone per craft.[3]
- 32 Factory Block and 32 Tyrian per craft.[3]
- 8 each of Holystone, Grimstone, Lavastone and Waterstone per craft.[3]
- 4 each of Valentine's Block and Warning Sign per craft.[3]
- 16 Smashing Rock from a shapeless recipe.[3]

Drops
The loot tables I could check, for acacia plank variants such as braced, braid, paneling and shipping, make each block drop itself if it survives an explosion. I could not check the other loot tables, so treat that as confirmed only for those variants.[11][12][13][14]
Which Chisel 3 config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide
Here are the Chisel 3 settings you are most likely to want to check. Every numeric option in the pack's config shows the same value as the mod default, so the pack has not changed any of these numbers. The on/off options below are listed as the pack sets them.[15][16]
Chisel durability and damage
Chisel tools take damage when used, because allowChiselDamage is true in this pack.[16]
- Iron chisel: ironChiselMaxDamage is 512 and ironChiselAttackDamage is 2.[16]
- Diamond chisel: diamondChiselMaxDamage is 5,056 and diamondChiselAttackDamage is 3.[16]
- Hitech chisel (the iChisel): hitechChiselMaxDamage is 10,048 and hitechChiselAttackDamage is 3.[16]
There is also a second file, config/chisel_common.toml, with its own durability settings. general.iron_chisel_durability is 512, general.diamond_chisel_durability is 5,096 and general.obsidian_chisel_durability is 10,048. Note that the diamond figure here (5,096) differs from the 5,056 in the other file.[15][16]
Chisel behaviour
- ironChiselCanLeftClick is false, so the iron chisel cannot left-click chisel blocks in the world.[16]
- ironChiselHasModes is false, so the iron chisel has no access to chisel modes.[16]
- carvingCooldownTicks is 4 ticks, which is 0.2 seconds between carving actions.[16]
Auto chisel
autoChiselPowered is true, so the auto chisel accepts Forge Energy (FE). autoChiselNeedsPower is false, so it does not require power to function.[16]
World generation
Diabase, limestone and marble generation are all enabled. Basalt generation is disabled via worldgen.basalt.enabled in this pack. Here is how each one is set up.[16]
- Marble: worldgen.marble.minY is 0 and worldgen.marble.maxY is 60. worldgen.marble.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.marble.veinSize is 48.[16]
- Limestone: worldgen.limestone.minY is 0 and worldgen.limestone.maxY is 60. worldgen.limestone.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.limestone.veinSize is 48.[16]
- Diabase: worldgen.diabase.minY is -64 and worldgen.diabase.maxY is 0. worldgen.diabase.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.diabase.veinSize is 48.[16]
- Basalt, if you turn it on: worldgen.basalt.minY is -64 and worldgen.basalt.maxY is 0. worldgen.basalt.veinCount is 1 and worldgen.basalt.veinSize is 48.[16]
FTB Ultimine and movement
enableUltimineCompat is true, so the FTB Ultimine integration is on (it needs FTB Ultimine installed). ultimineGroupVariants is also true, so Ultimine selects blocks of the same type together when you use it with a chisel.[16]
Walking on concrete blocks gives a speed multiplier set by concreteVelocityMult, which is 1.35 in this pack.[16]
What changed in Chisel 3 between versions?
FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 includes Chisel 3 version 26.1.2.18. The pack's mod list says it was first included in 1.0.2 or an earlier release, so the exact release where it arrived isn't confirmed.[17]
The mod's own changelog for 26.1.2.18 doesn't help either: no changelog was specified for that version, so there are no listed changes to walk you through.[18]
Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for Chisel 3, so what changed in it between pack releases is not confirmed in this guide.
