What is Item Filters?

1 part

In this pack you meet Item Filters through one item: the Tag Filter. It shows up as a task item in the quest book, and the pack has included the mod since Gravitas 2.0 or earlier.[1][2]

Where the quest book uses it

The first chapter is where you run into it most. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.lumber_jack}" quest each ask for 16 of the Tag Filter, and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.small_copper}" quest asks for 20. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.start_somewhere}" quest and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.leather}" quest ask for 8 each.[2]

Some first-chapter quests mix it with other tasks. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.fire}" quest asks for 8 of them alongside straw, firestarters and several unfired molds. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_metal_storage}" quest asks for 16 alongside unfired vessels and straw.[2]

It does not stop after the opening chapter. One quest in the third chapter has it as a task. A quest in the fourth chapter pairs a Bloomery with 11 of them.[3][4]

Unverified The sources here do not show what each tag filter in a quest actually accepts, how the item is crafted or used outside quests, or any placement of Item Filters on the ATM Star quest path. No guidebook for the mod was found. Check in-game for those details.

How do you get started with Item Filters?

4 parts

Item Filters adds a set of filter items that describe which items should match. In this pack you'll meet the Tag Filter first, because the early quests use it as a task item. The stick quest "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest asks for 16 of them, and the fire quest "{gravitas.quest.caveman.fire}" quest lists them too.[2]

Step 1: Start with the Always True Filter

The recipe dump shows that nearly every filter is crafted from another filter. That makes the Always True Filter your entry point. It's the one recipe in the dump that doesn't start from an existing filter.[5]

There's also a shapeless recipe that turns any other filter into an Always True Filter. Use it if you've made the wrong filter and want to start over.[5]

Step 2: Make a Tag Filter

The Tag Filter is the one the quests ask for, so make it early. You give it tag names such as 'minecraft:wool' or 'forge:cobblestone'. Right-click the filter slot to clear it.[5][6]

Step 3: Combine filters

Once you have a few filters, you can build logic from them with these:[6]

The NOT Filter filter is also craftable from another filter. The sources don't describe what it does, so I won't guess.[5]

Step 4: Pick a specialised filter when you need one

Watch out: The Custom Filter needs a mod or a script, usually KubeJS, to do anything. On its own it won't work, so skip it while you're getting started.[5][6]

How does Item Filters work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide

Item Filters adds filter items, each of which describes a set of items by a rule. The sources for this pack cover what each filter checks and how you type its rule in, so that is what this section explains.[6][7]

Logic filters

These combine other filters, which lets you build more precise rules.[6]

Filters that check an item's properties

  • Block Filter checks whether the item is a block.[6][7]
  • Tag Filter matches by tag name, such as 'minecraft:wool' or 'forge:cobblestone'.[6][7]
  • Item Group Filter matches by Item Group, also called Creative Tab, ID.[6][7]
  • ID RegEx Filter checks the item ID with a regular expression. The text you enter is matched against the item ID, so "^minecraft:" matches all vanilla items.[6][7]
  • Max Count Filter checks the item's maximum stack size. You can use relational operators, for example "<64" or ">=16".[6][7]
  • Damage Filter checks item damage. It accepts relational operators such as "<10" or ">=5", and you can also use a percentage, for example ">50%".[6][7]

NBT matching

The mod also has two NBT-based filters. The strong one matches only if the entire NBT is equal. The weak one matches if only the specified part of the NBT is present: it checks only the fields you supply and ignores any other fields on the item.[6]

Both take an NBT string, written like { text:"hello", value: 1, active: true }.[6]

Using the filter screens

  • A filter slot is cleared with a right-click.[6]
  • In the selection list, Tab, the scroll wheel and Cursor Up/Down adjust the highlight, and Enter selects the highlighted entry.[6]

Crafting

The Item Filters recipes in the pack's recipe dump are all listed as the mod's own recipes. Most of them take another filter as an ingredient. Here are the recipes for an Always True Filter.[7]

How do you progress through Item Filters?

3 parts

Item Filters doesn't have a tier ladder in this pack. Every filter is its own crafting recipe, and the pack's quests lean on one of them: the Tag Filter. So the progression here is about where you first meet that filter in the questbook, not about upgrading through levels.[2][5]

Unverified No tier system or upgrade path for Item Filters is confirmed by the available pack data. The progression below only covers where the quests use the mod's items.

Early quests: the Tag Filter as a task item

In the first quest chapter, a lot of the early tasks are written as Tag Filter items. The quests ask for a set number of them, and the amount depends on the quest:[2]

"{gravitas.quest.caveman.stone_tools}" quest has three separate Tag Filter tasks. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.leather}" quest asks for 8.[2]

Later chapters

The Tag Filter doesn't go away as you progress. a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.3.title}" in a later chapter has a single Tag Filter task. A further chapter has a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.4.title}", which asks for a Bloomery plus 11 Tag Filter tasks.[3][4]

Unverified The sources don't show which tag each of these quest tasks is set to, so check the quest in-game to see exactly what it accepts.

Crafting the filters

Every filter in the mod has its own recipe in the pack, so none of them is locked behind a quest. Here is the Tag Filter recipe, since the quests use it so much:[5]

Tip: Since many early quests want Tag Filters in bulk, such as 16 or 20 at a time, it's worth setting up your filter crafting early rather than making them one by one.[2][5]

Which All the Mods - Gravitas quests use Item Filters?

2 parts

Item Filters doesn't have quests of its own. In this pack its Tag Filter shows up as a quest task, where you hand in a Tag Filter. It appears in three chapters, and most of the quests are in chapter 1, the early caveman-style start.[2][3][4]

Chapter 1: the early game

Most of these quests ask only for Tag Filter, with counts from a single filter up to 20. Several of them list no prerequisite, so you can start on them straight away.[2]

Two quests mix Tag Filters with other items. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_metal_storage}" quest asks for 4 Unfired Vessel, 1 Unfired Large Vessel, 16 Tag Filters and 16 Straw. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.fire}" quest asks for 8 Tag Filters, 8 Straw, 2 Firestarter, and four unfired molds: pickaxe head, prospector's pickaxe head, hammer head and saw blade. Both quests have prerequisites, and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.fire}" quest needs two of them.[2]

Chapters 3 and 4

Unverified The quest data doesn't show which tag each Tag Filter task checks for. It also doesn't resolve the chapter titles or the names of the untitled quests, and the prerequisites point to quests outside this list. A full step-by-step order across chapters can't be confirmed from what's available.
