What is Item Filters?
1 part
Item Filters adds the Tag Filter, and that is the only item from the mod the pack's quest book shows. It appears as a quest task item in several chapters, so you will run into it early.[1][2][3]
The sources here include no mod description and no in-jar guide, so this page only covers where the quest book uses the Tag Filter.[3]
Where it shows up in the quest book
- Getting Started (Featuring Stone Anvils!): the chain begins with "Stick It Up" quest, which asks for 2 Tag Filters. "Stone Tools" quest comes after it and lists four separate Tag Filter tasks. Next is "Gotta Start Somewhere!" quest, which asks for 8 Tag Filters plus 10 Straw.[3]
- Later in the same chapter, "Pit Kilns" quest leads to "Finding Copper" quest, and both use it. The chain through "Rough Cut" quest to "Big Barrel" quest (4 Tag Filters) and on to "Raw Hide" quest, "Let It Soak" quest and "The Premium Material" quest (3 Tag Filters) uses it too.[3]
- Bronze quests: "Let's get CREATEive" quest combines a Tag Filter task with Zinc Ingot and Igneous Zinc Alloy. "Hangers" quest and "Food Shelves" quest both come after the cellar quest and each have a Tag Filter task. "Greenhouse" quest has one as well.[4]
- Shop chapter: each biome map quest, such as "Plains Biome Map" quest, asks for 64 Clay, 64 Tag Filters and another 16 Tag Filters.[2]
- A later chapter also uses it, for example in a quest in "Anvils to beat you Black, Red and Blue".[5]
Unverified Whether Item Filters is part of the ATM Star quest path is not shown by the sources here, so check the ATM Star chapters in the quest book yourself.
How do you get started with Item Filters?
4 parts
Item Filters adds a family of filter items, and in this pack you meet them almost immediately. The very first quests in the early-game chapter ask for Tag Filter items as their tasks, so this is the first thing worth learning.[3][6]
Step 1: Make an Always True Filter
In the recipe dump, the other filter recipes all take another filter as an input. The Always True Filter is the one recipe that starts from paper and wool instead, so it is your way in.[6]
There is also a shapeless recipe that turns any filter into an Always True Filter. That means you can always reset a filter you no longer need.[6]
Crafting Shapeless
- any filter
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true_from_others
Step 2: Make a Tag Filter
Next, craft the Tag Filter from a filter you already have. This is the one the quests use. Its in-game description says it works with tag names, such as 'minecraft:wool' or 'forge:cobblestone'.[3][6][7]
Right-clicking a filter slot clears it, which is handy if you set the wrong thing.[7]
Where you will see it first
- "Stick It Up" quest asks for 2 Tag Filter items as its task.[3]
- "Stone Tools" quest comes after it and lists four Tag Filter tasks.[3]
- "Gotta Start Somewhere!" quest asks for 8 Tag Filter items plus 10 straw.[3]
Other filters to know about
Once you are comfortable with tags, the rest of the family is a short step away. Each one has its own crafting recipe in the pack. Here is what the in-game descriptions say:[6][7]
- AND Filter: all filters must match.[6][7]
- OR Filter: one of the filters must match.[6][7]
- XOR Filter: one of two filters must match, but not both.[6][7]
- Max Count Filter: checks an item's max stack size. It accepts operators such as "<64" or ">=16".[6][7]
- ID RegEx Filter: matches the item ID with a regular expression. For example, "^minecraft:" matches all vanilla items.[6][7]
- Custom Filter: needs a mod or a script, usually KubeJS, to work.[6][7]
How does Item Filters work?
5 parts
Item Filters adds filter items, each of which describes a set of items by a rule. The sources for this pack cover what each filter checks and how you type its rule in, so that is what this section explains.[6][7]
Logic filters
These combine other filters, which lets you build more precise rules.[7]
- AND Filter: all filters must match.[6][7]
- OR Filter: one of the filters must match.[6][7]
- XOR Filter: one of two filters must match, but not both.[6][7]
- Custom Filter: requires a mod or a script, usually KubeJS, to make it work.[6][7]
Filters that check an item's properties
- Block Filter checks whether the item is a block.[6][7]
- Tag Filter matches by tag name, such as 'minecraft:wool' or 'forge:cobblestone'.[6][7]
- Item Group Filter matches by Item Group, also called Creative Tab, ID.[6][7]
- ID RegEx Filter checks the item ID with a regular expression. The text you enter is matched against the item ID, so "^minecraft:" matches all vanilla items.[6][7]
- Max Count Filter checks the item's maximum stack size. You can use relational operators, for example "<64" or ">=16".[6][7]
- Damage Filter checks item damage. It accepts relational operators such as "<10" or ">=5", and you can also use a percentage, for example ">50%".[6][7]
NBT matching
The mod also has two NBT-based filters. The strong one matches only if the entire NBT is equal. The weak one matches if only the specified part of the NBT is present: it checks only the fields you supply and ignores any other fields on the item.[7]
Both take an NBT string, written like { text:"hello", value: 1, active: true }.[7]
Using the filter screens
- A filter slot is cleared with a right-click.[7]
- In the selection list, Tab, the scroll wheel and Cursor Up/Down adjust the highlight, and Enter selects the highlighted entry.[7]
Crafting
The Item Filters recipes in the pack's recipe dump are all listed as the mod's own recipes. Most of them take another filter as an ingredient. Here are the recipes for an Always True Filter.[6]
Crafting Shaped
| any wool | ||
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true
Shaped recipe that does not need an existing filter.
Crafting Shapeless
- any filter
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true_from_others
Shapeless recipe that converts an existing filter into this one.
How do you progress through Item Filters?
2 parts
Item Filters has no tier ladder in this pack. Every filter is crafted from other filters, so there is no upgrade chain to climb. The mod shows up in two places: the quest book, where the Tag Filter is a task item in many chapters, and a set of filter recipes you can craft whenever you like.[2][3][4][5][6][8][9]
Where it appears in the quests
The Tag Filter is the only Item Filters item that appears in quest tasks. The Getting Started chapter uses it the most. "Stick It Up" quest asks for 2 of it, and "Stone Tools" quest lists four separate entries.[3]
- "Gotta Start Somewhere!" quest asks for 8 Tag Filter entries plus 10 Straw.[3]
- "Pit Kilns" quest lists two Tag Filter entries, and "Finding Copper" quest follows it with one.[3]
- "Rough Cut" quest lists two entries, and "Big Barrel" quest asks for 4.[3]
- "Loomatic" quest pairs one entry with Wool Cloth, and "The Premium Material" quest asks for 3.[3]
Other chapters follow the same pattern. "Let's get CREATEive" quest combines a Tag Filter entry with Zinc Ingot and Igneous Zinc Alloy. "A better funnel" quest pairs one with Brass Funnel. a quest in "You like Anvils? Say no more: Iron Anvil" asks for a Bloomery plus 11 Tag Filter entries.[4][8][9]
Some quests use a single Tag Filter entry as their only task, such as "Kelp me out" quest, "Greenhouse" quest and "Red or Blue Steel Pickaxe" quest.[4][5][8]
The shop chapter's biome map quests, such as "Plains Biome Map" quest and "Badlands Biome Map" quest, all list the same three tasks: 64 Clay, then a Tag Filter entry of 64 and another of 16.[2]
Crafting the filters
The recipe dump lists only mod recipes for Item Filters items, so nothing shows the pack changing them. The logic filters are AND Filter, OR Filter, NOT Filter and XOR Filter, and Always False Filter has its own recipe too (all shown below). The other filters are Mod Filter, Block Filter, Damage Filter, Max Count Filter, Item Group Filter, ID RegEx Filter and Custom Filter, each with its own recipe as well.[6]
This is the Tag Filter recipe, the filter the quests ask for.

Which All the Mods - Gravitas quests use Item Filters?
3 parts
Item Filters shows up in the quest book through one item only: the Tag Filter. Quests use it as a task item, so the quest asks for a Tag Filter entry instead of one fixed item. It appears in the Getting Started chapter, the shop chapter, and the chapters titled {gravitas.chapters.3.title}, {gravitas.chapters.4.title}, {gravitas.chapters.5.title} and {gravitas.chapters.6.title}.[2][3][4][5][8][9]
Unverified The quest data doesn't say which tag each Tag Filter task checks, so it isn't listed here. Open the quest in your quest book to see what it accepts. Some chapter titles also show up as raw language keys in the data, so their real names are unconfirmed.
Getting Started (Featuring Stone Anvils!)
This is where you meet the Tag Filter first, and it has the most quests that use it. The order below follows the prerequisites listed for each quest.[3]
- "Stick It Up" quest and the untitled quest a quest in "Getting Started(Featuring Stone Anvils!)" each ask for 2 Tag Filters. Both come after the same earlier quest.[3]
- "Stone Tools" quest asks for four Tag Filter tasks and unlocks once the two quests above are done.[3]
- "Gotta Start Somewhere!" quest asks for 8 Tag Filters plus 10 Straw, and follows the stone tools quest.[3]
- "Pit Kilns" quest asks for two Tag Filter tasks, and "Finding Copper" quest follows it with one.[3]
- "Rough Cut" quest asks for two Tag Filter tasks and comes after the quest called Making Our First Metal Tools.[3]
- After the saw blade you get "Big Barrel" quest, which asks for 4 Tag Filters, and the untitled quest a quest in "Getting Started(Featuring Stone Anvils!)" with one.[3]
- The leather line then runs in order: "Raw Hide" quest, "Let It Soak" quest, "Like A Squeegee" quest, "Let It Soak 2" quest, and finally "The Premium Material" quest, which asks for 3 Tag Filters. The first four each ask for one.[3]
- Separately, "Loomatic" quest asks for a Tag Filter plus Wool Cloth, and "Small Cog" quest follows it with one Tag Filter.[3]
Shop chapter
Every quest in the shop chapter has the same three tasks: Clay x64, Tag Filter x64 and Tag Filter x16. They are named after biomes, for example "Plains Biome Map" quest, "River Biome Map" quest, "Mountains Biome Map" quest and "Badlands Biome Map" quest. The data lists no prerequisites for any of them, so there is no fixed order.[2]
Later chapters
- In the chapter titled {gravitas.chapters.3.title}, "Let's get CREATEive" quest asks for a Tag Filter alongside Zinc Ingot and Igneous Zinc Alloy. The untitled a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze" asks for one Tag Filter, as do "Greenhouse" quest, "Hangers" quest, "Food Shelves" quest and the untitled a quest in "More Anvils, but this time they're Bronze". The hangers and food shelf quests both come after the cellar quest.[4]
- In the chapter titled {gravitas.chapters.4.title}, the untitled a quest in "You like Anvils? Say no more: Iron Anvil" asks for a Bloomery plus 11 Tag Filters. It unlocks after the iron cutting and iron mortar quests.[4][9]
- In the chapter titled {gravitas.chapters.5.title}, "Kelp me out" quest asks for one Tag Filter, and "A better funnel" quest asks for a Tag Filter plus Brass Funnel. The funnel quest comes after the automate Create quest.[8]
- In the chapter titled {gravitas.chapters.6.title}, the untitled a quest in "Anvils to beat you Black, Red and Blue" asks for one Tag Filter, and "Red or Blue Steel Pickaxe" quest follows it with one more.[4][5]
