What is Item Filters?
2 parts
In this pack, Item Filters shows up through one item: the Tag Filter. The pack's quest book uses it as a task item, so you will see it a lot in the first quest chapter. The mod has been in the pack since Gravitas 2.0 or earlier.[1][2]
Where the quest book uses it
The first quest chapter is where the Tag Filter appears. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest asks for 16 of them, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.raw_hide}" quest asks for 8, and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.big_barrel}" quest asks for 4.[2]
Some quests mix filters with other items. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.fire}" quest asks for 8 filters alongside straw, firestarters and unfired molds. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_metal_storage}" quest asks for 16 filters together with unfired vessels and straw. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.lumber_jack}" quest asks for 16 filters on their own. The untitled quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for a bloomery plus 11 filters.[2]
What comes before and after
"{gravitas.quest.caveman.stone_tools}" quest comes after the untitled quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.start_somewhere}" quest follows it.[2]
There is also a chain that starts at "{gravitas.quest.caveman.raw_hide}" quest. It runs through "{gravitas.quest.caveman.soak}" quest, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.squeegee}" quest, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.soak_2}" quest and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.leather}" quest, and every step asks for Tag Filters. Separately, the untitled quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" comes after "{gravitas.quest.caveman.lumber_jack}" quest.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show Item Filters on the ATM Star quest path, and they do not show which items each Tag Filter task accepts. No in-jar guidebook was found for the mod either, so check the quest task in game for what it accepts.
How do you get started with Item Filters?
4 parts
Item Filters adds a family of filter items, each one a rule that matches items by some property. Getting started is short: make your first filter, then turn it into the type you need.[3][4]
Step 1: Make an Always True Filter
The Always True Filter is your entry point. In this pack it is the one filter with a recipe that doesn't start from another filter. The recipe is below.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| any wool | ||
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true
This is the pack's own recipe for your first filter, so craft this one before any other.
Step 2: Turn it into the filter you need
The pack's other filter recipes take a filter you already own and turn it into a different type. Once you have one filter, you can make any of the others. The Tag Filter is a good one to make first, because Tag Filters show up as task items in the first quest chapter.[2][3]
The Tag Filter recipe starts from any filter.
The mod describes the Tag Filter as matching tag names, such as 'minecraft:wool' or 'forge:cobblestone'.[4]
Step 3: Learn the other filter types
- AND Filter: all of its filters must match.[3][4]
- OR Filter: one of its filters must match.[3][4]
- XOR Filter: one of two filters must match, but not both.[3][4]
- Block Filter: checks whether the item is a block.[3][4]
- ID RegEx Filter: checks the item ID with a regular expression. For example, "^minecraft:" matches all vanilla items.[3][4]
- Max Count Filter: checks the item's maximum stack size. You can add operators such as "<64" or ">=16".[3][4]
- Damage Filter: checks item damage. It accepts operators like "<10" or ">=5", and optionally a percentage such as ">50%".[3][4]
- Item Group Filter: uses an Item Group / Creative Tab ID.[3][4]
- Custom Filter: needs a mod or a script, usually KubeJS, to work.[3][4]
Crafting Shapeless
- any filter
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true_from_others
The shapeless recipe that makes an Always True Filter from other filters.
Where you'll meet filters in the quests
You'll see Tag Filters early, in the first quest chapter. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest uses a Tag Filter as a task item with a count of 16. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.raw_hide}" quest and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.soak}" quest use a count of 8, and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.big_barrel}" quest uses 4. Later quests in the chain, such as "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stone_tools}" quest, also use Tag Filters.[2]
How does Item Filters work?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Item Filters adds filter items, each of which describes a set of items by a rule. The sources for this pack cover what each filter checks and how you type its rule in, so that is what this section explains.[4][5]
Logic filters
These combine other filters, which lets you build more precise rules.[4]
- AND Filter: all filters must match.[4][5]
- OR Filter: one of the filters must match.[4][5]
- XOR Filter: one of two filters must match, but not both.[4][5]
- Custom Filter: requires a mod or a script, usually KubeJS, to make it work.[4][5]
Filters that check an item's properties
- Block Filter checks whether the item is a block.[4][5]
- Tag Filter matches by tag name, such as 'minecraft:wool' or 'forge:cobblestone'.[4][5]
- Item Group Filter matches by Item Group, also called Creative Tab, ID.[4][5]
- ID RegEx Filter checks the item ID with a regular expression. The text you enter is matched against the item ID, so "^minecraft:" matches all vanilla items.[4][5]
- Max Count Filter checks the item's maximum stack size. You can use relational operators, for example "<64" or ">=16".[4][5]
- Damage Filter checks item damage. It accepts relational operators such as "<10" or ">=5", and you can also use a percentage, for example ">50%".[4][5]
NBT matching
The mod also has two NBT-based filters. The strong one matches only if the entire NBT is equal. The weak one matches if only the specified part of the NBT is present: it checks only the fields you supply and ignores any other fields on the item.[4]
Both take an NBT string, written like { text:"hello", value: 1, active: true }.[4]
Using the filter screens
- A filter slot is cleared with a right-click.[4]
- In the selection list, Tab, the scroll wheel and Cursor Up/Down adjust the highlight, and Enter selects the highlighted entry.[4]
Crafting
The Item Filters recipes in the pack's recipe dump are all listed as the mod's own recipes. Most of them take another filter as an ingredient. Here are the recipes for an Always True Filter.[5]
Crafting Shaped
| any wool | ||
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true
Shaped recipe that does not need an existing filter.
Crafting Shapeless
- any filter
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true_from_others
Shapeless recipe that converts an existing filter into this one.
How do you progress through Item Filters?
2 parts
Item Filters has no tier ladder in this pack. Every filter in the recipe dump is its own single crafting recipe, and none of them is an upgrade of another. What the pack does give you is a recipe for each filter and a run of early-game quests that use the Tag Filter as a task item.[2][3]
How the filters are crafted
All the recipes in the dump are listed as mod recipes, not pack changes. That covers the Tag Filter, AND Filter, OR Filter, NOT Filter, XOR Filter, Block Filter, Custom Filter, Damage Filter, ID RegEx Filter, Item Group Filter, Max Count Filter, Mod Filter and Always False Filter. The Always True Filter has two recipes, a shaped one and a shapeless one.[3]
This is the Tag Filter recipe. The Tag Filter is the filter the early quests use as a task item.
Crafting Shaped
| any wool | ||
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true
The shaped Always True Filter recipe.
Crafting Shapeless
- any filter
Recipe id: itemfilters:always_true_from_others
The shapeless Always True Filter recipe.
Where it shows up in the quests
In the pack's quest book, the Tag Filter appears in the early caveman quests. Many of them list it as a task item, each with its own count.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest has a Tag Filter task with a count of 16. The untitled quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" has one with a count of 8.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stone_tools}" quest unlocks after both of those and has three separate Tag Filter tasks.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.start_somewhere}" quest comes after the stone tools quest and has a Tag Filter task with a count of 8.[2]
There is also a hide-processing line, where each quest has a Tag Filter task with a count of 8. It runs in this order: "{gravitas.quest.caveman.raw_hide}" quest, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.soak}" quest, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.squeegee}" quest, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.soak_2}" quest, then "{gravitas.quest.caveman.leather}" quest.[2]
Later quests mix Tag Filter tasks with other items. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.fire}" quest pairs a Tag Filter task with a count of 8 with other tasks. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_metal_storage}" quest has a Tag Filter task with a count of 16, and so does "{gravitas.quest.caveman.lumber_jack}" quest. The untitled quest a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" has a Tag Filter task with a count of 11 alongside a bloomery task.[2]
Which All the Mods - Gravitas quests use Item Filters?
4 parts
In this pack, Tag Filter only shows up in the quests as a task item. I found it in one quest chapter, and its title only appears as a raw translation key in the quest files, so I can't give you its display name. The quests ask you to hand in items that match a tag filter.[2]
Unverified The quest files don't say which tag each Tag Filter task checks. Check the task in your quest book to see which items it accepts.
Where the chapter starts
Four quests have no prerequisite, so you can start with any of them. "{gravitas.quest.caveman.big_barrel}" quest asks for 4 Tag Filter items, "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest asks for 16, a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" asks for 8, and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.raw_hide}" quest asks for 8.[2]
The main chains
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stone_tools}" quest unlocks once you finish a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" and "{gravitas.quest.caveman.stick}" quest. It has three separate Tag Filter tasks.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.start_somewhere}" quest comes after the stone tools quest and asks for 8 Tag Filter items.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.soak}" quest follows "{gravitas.quest.caveman.raw_hide}" quest and asks for 8.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.squeegee}" quest follows the first soak quest and asks for 8.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.soak_2}" quest follows the squeegee quest and asks for 8.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.leather}" quest follows the second soak quest and asks for 8. It is the end of this chain.[2]
Quests that mix Tag Filters with other items
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.fire}" quest needs 8 Tag Filter items, 8 Straw, 2 Firestarter and four unfired molds: pickaxe head, prospector's pick head, hammer head and saw blade. It comes after two earlier quests, one about molds and one about straw.[2]
- "{gravitas.quest.caveman.early_metal_storage}" quest needs 4 Unfired Vessel, 1 Unfired Large Vessel, 16 Tag Filter items and 16 Straw. It comes after the same molds quest.[2]
- a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" needs a Bloomery plus 11 Tag Filter items. It comes after the cutting and mortar quests.[2]
Lumberjack branch and single-item quests
"{gravitas.quest.caveman.lumber_jack}" quest asks for 16 Tag Filter items and comes after the saw blade quest. a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" comes after it and asks for a single Tag Filter item.[2]
Two more untitled quests ask for one Tag Filter item each. a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" comes after the copper tool quest. a quest in "{gravitas.chapters.1.title}" only unlocks once three earlier quests are done.[2]
