What is Training Dummy?
2 parts
Training Dummy adds a configurable combat dummy for testing damage, gear and other mods. You drop it down, hit it, and read the numbers. This pack ships version 1.8.0+mc26.1.2.[1][2]
What you can do with it
- Place a Dummy Spawner on the ground to summon a dummy, then hit it with anything to see damage numbers. They can show as chat or on-screen, depending on config.[2]
- Right-click the dummy with a Stick to open its inventory (armor, curios, health, display settings). Hit it with a Stick to remove it, and it drops a spawner you can place again.[2]
- Each dummy can show incoming damage as Total, DPS or Per Hit. This is set per dummy, not globally. Per Hit also labels the damage type (Fire, Freezing, Explosive, Lightning, Magic) when it isn't plain physical damage.[2]
- Hold Lure Bait in a dummy's main hand and nearby hostile mobs will target it instead of you.[2]
- Rename a dummy in an anvil with a Name Tag to give it a real Minecraft player's skin.[2]
Scoreboard Dummy
The Scoreboard Dummy is a variant that records the single biggest hit landed on it, not a running total. It ranks that hit on a local top 10 leaderboard, and on a weekly global one if the server enables it. You craft it with a Dummy Spawner and a Diamond.[2][3]
Some weapons never score on the board. Anything from Avaritia or Modern Industrialization is always blocked, as is any item with "Infinity" or "Quantum" in its name. If a hit doesn't show up, that is probably why.[3]
How do you get started with Training Dummy?
5 parts
Training Dummy gives you a combat dummy you can drop down, hit and read the damage numbers from. It's the quickest way to test your gear and your mods. The first step is making the dummy itself.[2]
Step 1: Craft the Training Dummy
Everything starts with Training Dummy. It's the item you place to summon a dummy, so make this one before anything else. Here's the exact in-pack recipe:[2][5]
Crafting Shaped
Armor Stand
Hay Block

This is the in-pack recipe for the Training Dummy spawner.
Step 2: Place it and start hitting
- Place the spawner on the ground to summon a dummy.[2]
- Hit it with anything. The damage numbers show up in chat or on screen, and you can configure which.[2]
- Right-click it with a Stick to open its inventory. That's where you find armor, curios, health and display settings.[2]
- When you're done, hit it with a Stick to remove it. It drops a spawner you can place again.[2]
Each dummy can show its incoming damage as Total, DPS or Per Hit, and you set this per dummy, not globally. Per Hit also labels the damage type (Fire, Freezing, Explosive, Lightning or Magic) whenever the damage isn't plain physical.[2]
Make it yours
Rename a dummy in an anvil with a Name Tag and it takes the skin of the real Minecraft player with that name.[2]
A loaded spawner remembers its name, health and gear. If you want a clean slate, put a single loaded spawner alone in any crafting grid. That resets its health, name and display setting, but it keeps whatever gear it remembers.[2][6]
Step 3: Try the Scoreboard Dummy
Once you're comfortable with the basic dummy, craft the Scoreboard Dummy. It tracks the single biggest hit landed on it instead of a running total.[2][3]

Place it like a regular dummy and hit it. If your hit is big enough to make the top 10, it goes on the leaderboard. Right-click it with a Stick to open the leaderboard and see where you rank.[3]
Bonus: Lure Bait
Lure Bait is an item you hold in a dummy's main hand. It makes nearby hostile mobs target the dummy instead of you.[2][6]
How does Training Dummy work?
7 parts
Training Dummy has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling. It is a configurable combat dummy for testing damage, gear and other mods: you drop it down, hit it, and read the numbers. Everything below is how that works in this pack.[2]
Placing and removing dummies
You summon a dummy by placing a Training Dummy on the ground. Hit it with anything and it shows damage numbers, either in chat or on screen.[2]
Crafting Shaped
Armor Stand
Hay Block
Recipe id: trainingdummy:dummy_spawner
The in-pack recipe for the Training Dummy spawner.
- Right-click a dummy with a Stick to open its inventory: armor, curios, health and display settings.[2]
- Hit a dummy with a Stick to remove it. It drops a spawner you can place back down.[2]
- Rename it in an anvil with a Name Tag to give it a real Minecraft player's skin.[2]
- Put a single loaded spawner alone in any crafting grid to reset its health, name and display setting. It keeps whatever gear it remembers.[2]
A loaded spawner remembers its name, health and gear, and its tooltip shows them. Holding Ctrl shows the customization details.[6]
Health
The dummy's max health is a config option. The mod tops the dummy up every tick whatever that value is, so even a max health of 1 never lets a hit kill it. Hitting it with a Stick is the only way to remove one.[6]
Damage display
Each dummy shows its incoming damage as Total, DPS or Per Hit. This is set per dummy, not globally. Per Hit also labels the damage type (Fire, Freezing, Explosive, Lightning or Magic) whenever the damage isn't plain physical.[2]
The mod's config also controls how the readout looks. You can send it to the on-screen HUD or to your own chat. You can set its text color, its horizontal and vertical offset on screen, and how long it stays visible after the last hit.[6]
Every hit adds to a running total. If the configured number of seconds passes without a hit, the next hit starts a fresh total instead of adding to the old one.[6]
Lure Bait
Lure Bait held in a dummy's main hand makes nearby hostile mobs target the dummy instead of you. A config option sets how far mobs are pulled from. This pack removes the crafting recipe for Lure Bait.[2][6][7]
Scoreboard Dummy
The Scoreboard Dummy places a variant that tracks the single biggest hit landed on it instead of a running total. If the hit is big enough to make the top 10, it is added to the leaderboard. Right-click it with a Stick to open the leaderboard and see where you rank. Hit it with a Stick to remove it.[3]

Local and global leaderboards
Every server keeps its own local leaderboard, top 10 hits only, and it never resets. There is also a global leaderboard shared across servers, which resets every week. The #1 player on the board you are viewing gets their skin rendered next to their name, and you can click and drag it to spin it around.[3]
A server can turn the global leaderboard off entirely. That disables fetching, showing and submitting to it, while the local board keeps working either way. It is on by default.[6]
Other config options cover how often the server re-checks for leaderboard updates and how long it waits after a qualifying hit before submitting, in case the same player beats it again shortly after. There is also a friendly name for the global leaderboard's title.[6]
Weapon blacklist
Some weapons can never score a hit on the board. If a hit doesn't show up, this is the likely reason. These are always blocked on every server:[3]
- Morgan Sword (Mahou Tsukai)[3]
- Any item from Avaritia[3]
- Any item from Modern Industrialization[3]
- Any item with "Infinity" in its name[3]
- Any item with "Quantum" in its name[3]
Server owners can add more entries on top of this list, but they can't remove or override the built-in ones. An extra entry can be an exact item ID, a whole mod written as "modid:*", or, with no ":", a substring match against every item ID.[3][6]
Unverified The default values of this mod's config options (max health, display settings, leaderboard timings) are set in the mod's config file. The sources here do not show those values or any pack changes to them.
How do you progress through Training Dummy?
3 parts
Training Dummy is a testing tool, so its path is short: you start with the basic dummy and can move on to the Scoreboard variant when you want to compete. Both have in-pack crafting recipes, so you can start testing your damage whenever you like.[2][5]
Basic dummy
The Training Dummy is the basic dummy. Place it on the ground to summon a dummy, then hit it with anything to see damage numbers in chat or on screen, depending on the config.[2]

- Rename it in an anvil with a Name Tag to give it a real player's skin.[2]
- Put a single loaded spawner alone in a crafting grid to reset its health, name and display setting. It keeps the gear it remembers.[2]
Scoreboard Dummy
The Scoreboard Dummy is the competitive variant. Instead of a running total, it records the single biggest hit landed on it and ranks that hit on a local top 10 leaderboard. There is also a global board that resets every week, if the server enables it. The local board never resets.[2][3]

Place it like a regular dummy and hit it. If your hit is big enough for the top 10, it joins the board. Right-click with a Stick to open the leaderboard and see your rank. The top player on the board being shown gets their skin rendered next to their name.[3]
What this pack changes
The pack removes the crafting recipe for Lure Bait. The mod's guide describes it as an item you hold in a dummy's main hand so nearby hostile mobs target the dummy instead of you. In this pack, though, you can't craft it with the mod's own recipe.[2][7]
