What is Training Dummy?

Training Dummy is included in this pack at version 1.3. That is the only thing the pack files confirm about it, so this section stays short on purpose.[1]

The mod has been in the pack since 0.8.0-beta or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a new addition.[1]

Unverified What the mod's dummies do, how you craft them, who they are best suited for and whether the pack changes any recipes or configs for them could not be confirmed from the available sources. There is no guidebook entry or platform description to rely on.

Unverified No quests in this pack involve Training Dummy, and the mod is not on the ATM Star path. It is an optional extra, not a progression gate.

How do you get started with Training Dummy?

3 parts

Your first stop with this mod is the Training Dummy. It's the only Training Dummy item with a crafting recipe in the pack's recipe data, so everything else starts here.[2]

Handling your dummy

  • Right-click the dummy with a Stick to open its inventory.[3]
  • The dummy remembers its name, health and gear, so your setup sticks around.[3]
  • Hit it with a Stick to remove it. That's the only way to get rid of one.[3]
Tip: You can't kill a dummy by accident. It's topped off every tick, so even a very low max health setting never lets a hit finish it. Keep a Stick handy, because that's how you remove it.[3]

Reading your damage

The mod shows a damage readout when you hit a dummy. You can set it to show either the total damage of your current streak or your damage-per-second rate. It can appear on your screen (the HUD) or in your own chat.[3]

Each hit adds to a running total. If enough seconds pass without a hit, your next hit starts a fresh total instead. The readout also stays visible for a configurable time after your last hit. For the on-screen version you can change the text color and move it horizontally and vertically.[3]

Lure bait

The mod also has a lure bait item. Hold it in a dummy's main hand and nearby mobs are lured into attacking it. A config option controls how far away mobs are pulled from.[3]

How does Training Dummy work?

3 parts

Training Dummy is a small mod, and everything revolves around one item: the Training Dummy. It gives you a dummy that tracks the damage you deal to it and shows you a readout. Here is how it behaves, as far as the mod's own text explains it.[2][3]

Managing a dummy

  • Right-click the dummy with a Stick to open its inventory.[3]
  • Hit the dummy with a Stick to remove it. The mod describes this as the only way to remove one.[3]
  • The spawner item's tooltip says it remembers the dummy's name, health and gear.[3]
Tip: Don't try to kill a dummy with a strong weapon. The mod keeps its health topped off every tick, so even a max health of 1 never lets a hit kill it. Use a Stick when you want it gone.[3]

Lure bait

The mod also has a lure bait item. Hold it in a dummy's main hand and nearby mobs get lured into attacking the dummy. A bait radius option controls how far away mobs are pulled from.[3]

The damage readout

Every hit on a dummy adds to a running total. If enough time passes without a hit, the next hit starts a fresh total instead of adding to the old one. A reset option sets how long that gap is.[3]

You can tune the readout with these options:[3]

  • Metric: show either the total damage of the current streak or its damage-per-second rate.[3]
  • Location: show the readout on your screen (HUD) or in your own chat.[3]
  • Duration: how long the readout stays visible after the last hit.[3]
  • Color: a 6-digit RRGGBB or 8-digit AARRGGBB hex string with no # prefix. This only affects the on-screen readout.[3]
  • Offsets: horizontal and vertical pixel offsets for the on-screen readout. Horizontal is measured from the center of the screen, negative left and positive right. Vertical is measured up from the bottom of the screen.[3]

Unverified The values this pack uses for these options (max health, bait radius, reset time, display duration and so on) are set in the mod's configuration, and the sources here do not show them because no config files for this mod were available.

How do you progress through Training Dummy?

This section is short because the pack's recipe data confirms only one thing for this mod: a shaped crafting recipe for the Training Dummy, which is added by Training Dummy itself.[2]
