What is Step Crafter?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Step Crafter is an add-on for Refined Storage. It adds a Step Crafter and a Step Requester, which give you recursive crafting and a way to keep items in stock in your network.[1]
What it does
With the Step Crafter, you put in a pattern and Shift + Click it to set a minimum and a maximum amount. When the amount of that pattern's output stored in your network drops below the minimum, it crafts automatically until the maximum is restored.[1]
The Step Requester works from a resource instead of a pattern. You select the resource you want to maintain, then click to set its minimum, maximum and batch size. When the available amount falls below the minimum, it asks your autocrafters to produce that resource in batches until the maximum is reached.[1]
In this pack
The pack includes Step Crafter 1.21.1-0.1.8, the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1.[2]
The mod's project page lists a Step Crafter Manager, a Step Requester Manager, starting Step Crafter autocrafting tasks from the Grid, and a Redstone Pulse to start crafts as planned features. These are only plans, so don't count on them in this version.[1]
How do you get started with Step Crafter?
5 parts
Step Crafter is an add-on for Refined Storage that adds recursive crafting and keeps items in stock on your storage network. The order below is the one I'd follow, and every recipe shown is the exact one used in this pack.[1]
First, make a Step Crafter
Start with the Step Crafter. It accepts patterns for recursive autocrafting and lets you set a minimum and a maximum. When the network's amount of a pattern's output falls below the minimum, it crafts automatically until the maximum is reached.[1][3]

To set it up, put a pattern in, then Shift + Click it to set the minimum and maximum amounts.[1]
Next, make a Step Requester
The Step Requester works differently. You pick a resource to maintain, then configure its minimum, maximum and batch size. When the amount falls below the minimum, it asks your autocrafters to produce more in batches until the maximum is reached.[1][3]

Then add Slot Upgrades
When you want to keep more things in stock, craft a Slot Upgrade. Each one increases the number of filter rows by 1. The mod's config also has a speed multiplier per slot upgrade for the Step Crafter.[3]

Keep an eye on things with a Monitor
The Step Crafting Monitor shows the status of step crafting tasks in your storage network. It also lets you cancel them, which is handy if a task isn't doing what you expected.[3]

Managers once you have several
When you have a lot of crafters or requesters, the managers save you from hunting for each one. The Step Crafter Manager lets you manage all your step crafters from a single interface, and the Step Requester Manager does the same for step requesters. A machine only shows up in its manager if its "visible to the manager" option is enabled.[3]

The managers and the monitor also come in colored variants. The pack has coloring recipes for them, and the light blue coloring recipe gives you the plain, uncolored item.[4]
How does Step Crafter work?
5 parts
Step Crafter is an add-on for Refined Storage. It adds a Step Crafter and a Step Requester, which handle recursive crafting and keep items in stock on your storage network. Everything below comes from the mod's own descriptions, and I'll flag anything I can't confirm for this pack.[1]
Step Crafter
You put a pattern into the Step Crafter, then Shift + Click it to set a minimum and a maximum amount. When the amount of that pattern's output stored in the network drops below the minimum, the Step Crafter automatically crafts until the maximum is restored. The mod describes this as recursive autocrafting, so it follows the pattern recursively to keep the output in stock.[1][3]
Its screen has a toggle that makes the Step Crafter try to import the crafted components into the container it is pointed at. Another toggle controls whether the Step Crafter is visible to the Step Crafter Manager, which decides whether you can manage it from there.[3]
Step Requester
The Step Requester works from resources instead of patterns. You select the resource you want to maintain, then click it to configure a minimum, a maximum and a batch size. When the available amount falls below the minimum, the requester asks your autocrafters to produce it in batches until the maximum is reached.[1][3]
Slot upgrades and speed
The Slot Upgrade increases the number of filter rows by 1. The mod's config tooltip also describes a speed multiplier per slot upgrade on the Step Crafter, using the formula SpeedUpgradeAmount * SpeedMultiplier + 1. I can't confirm this pack's actual multiplier value.[3]
Managers and the monitor
- The Step Crafter Manager lets you manage all your Step Crafters from a single interface. Its search can look through Step Crafter names.[3]
- The Step Requester Manager does the same for Step Requesters, including searching by their names.[3]
- The Step Crafting Monitor shows the status of step crafting tasks and lets you cancel those tasks in your storage network.[3]
The managers and the monitor also come in colored variants, and the pack has coloring recipes for them. An example is Blue Step Crafter Manager.[4]
Crafting Shapeless
- any step crafter manager
- any blue dye

The mod's project page lists starting autocrafting tasks for the Step Crafter in the Grid as a planned feature. The mod's text also includes a grid tooltip that reads "ALT + click to stepcraft".[1][3]
Power use and defaults
Each piece has its own energy usage option: the Step Crafter, the Step Requester, the Step Crafter Manager, the Step Requester Manager, the Step Crafting Monitor and the Slot Upgrade. There are also default minimum, maximum and batch size options for newly configured resources.[3]
Unverified The sources here include no config files for this mod in the pack, so the actual energy usage numbers, the speed multiplier and the default minimum, maximum and batch size values are not shown. Those values are set in the mod's config, so check them in-game rather than assuming mod defaults.
How do you progress through Step Crafter?
3 parts
The recipe data for this pack lists a set of Step Crafter items, each with its own in-pack recipe, plus colored variants of the managers and the monitor. It does not define any tiers, so this section covers what you can craft rather than an upgrade ladder.[4]
Unverified The sources here show no quest involving this mod, no place for it on the ATM Star quest path, and no in-jar guidebook. Where the pack's quest book points you to it, and the exact job of each block, is not confirmed here.

Color variants
The Step Crafter Manager, Step Requester Manager and Step Crafting Monitor each have shapeless coloring recipes, with colored versions such as black, blue, red and yellow. These are separate recipes that produce colored items.[4]
The light blue coloring recipes are the odd ones out: they output the plain Step Crafter Manager, Step Requester Manager and Step Crafting Monitor rather than a separately named light blue item.[4]

What changed in Step Crafter between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Step Crafter 26.1.2-1.0.3, the newest release in the changelogs I have. The mod has been in the pack since 0.0.23 or earlier, so it's an old friend of the pack. Here's what changed across the 26.1.2 releases.[5]
Release by release
- 26.1.2-1.0.3: Fixed Alt + Click not working inside the Grid. This is the version your pack currently runs.[5][6]
- 26.1.2-1.0.2: The default resource values for the Step Crafter and Step Requester are now changeable in the client-side configuration screen.[7]
- 26.1.2-1.0.1: Improved Step Requester performance by adding a timeout on failed requested crafts.[8]
- 26.1.2-1.0.0: The 26.1.2 port.[9]
If you've had trouble with Alt + Click in the Grid, that's fixed in the version you have. The 1.0.2 change also covers the default resource values, which you can adjust from the client-side configuration screen.[5][6][7]
