What is Chisel 3?
3 parts
Chisel 3 is a building mod. It adds a huge variety of static blocks, so it's a great fit if the construction side of Minecraft is your favorite part of modded play.[1]
How it works
Nearly everything runs through one tool, the chisel. Right-click with it to open the chisel GUI, then put a block in the middle and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type. That's how you get all the decorative variants without hunting for each one separately.[1]
Two throwable extras
The mod also adds the Ball O' Moss and the Cloud In a Bottle. You throw both the same way you throw a snowball, and they do their thing on impact.[1]
- Ball O' Moss: mossifies nearby blocks, for example turning Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick, and it works the same way on Cobblestone.[1]
- Cloud In a Bottle: creates a large amount of clouds where it lands.[1]
In this pack
The pack ships Chisel 3 version 26.1.2.17.[2]
Unverified The sources I have don't show where Chisel fits in the pack's progression, and it isn't on the ATM Star path. No quests involve it either. I also can't confirm whether the pack changes any of the mod's recipes or settings, so treat the details above as the mod's general behavior.
How do you get started with Chisel 3?
4 parts
Chisel is all about building. Nearly all the new blocks come through one tool, so that's where you start. The steps below follow the order I'd make things in.[1]
Make the Chisel first
Craft the Chisel first. Right-click with it to open the chisel GUI, then put a block in the middle slot. You can turn it into other blocks of the same type, and that's how you reach the huge variety of static blocks the mod adds.[1]

Try the special items
Chisel adds a few extra items on top of the tool, and each one has its own in-pack recipe. The Ball O' Moss and the Cloud in a Bottle are thrown with a right-click, the same way as snowballs.[1][3]
- Ball O' Moss mossifies the nearby blocks it hits. For example, Stone Brick becomes Mossy Stone Brick, and Cobblestone gets the same treatment.[1]
- Cloud in a Bottle creates a large amount of clouds on impact.[1][3]
- Smashing Rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area.[1][3]

How does Chisel 3 work?
3 parts
Chisel 3 adds a huge variety of static blocks, so it is a building mod first. Almost all of its blocks are reached through one tool, the Chisel. The sources here don't describe machine mechanics beyond that, so this section is short.[1]
The chisel and its GUI
Right-click with the chisel to open its GUI. Put a block in the middle and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type.[1]

Throwable items
The Ball O' Moss and the Cloud in a Bottle are thrown with a right click, the same way you throw a snowball. They do something when they land.[1][3]
- Ball O' Moss mossifies nearby blocks on impact. Stone Brick becomes Mossy Stone Brick, and Cobblestone gets the same treatment.[1]
- Cloud in a Bottle creates a large amount of clouds on impact.[1][3]
- Smashing Rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area.[1][3]

How do you progress through Chisel 3?
4 parts
The pack's Chisel 3 recipes give you an order you can follow: hand tools first, then automation, then the decorative block families. This is a suggested way through the mod, not a required sequence.[3]
The hand chisels
Your entry point is the Chisel. The Diamond Chisel and the Obsidian Chisel are the other hand chisels in the pack, and the Builders Guide and the Ender Offset Wand can be crafted as well. The chisel recipes are shown below.[3]

Automation
Once you're tired of chiseling by hand, the Auto Chisel is the next craftable step. It has matching upgrade items with their own recipes: Speed Upgrade, Stack Upgrade, Automation Upgrade and Reversion Upgrade.[3]

Craftable decorative blocks
A lot of Chisel's block families can be crafted directly in this pack. Here is what has a recipe, grouped loosely by theme:[3]
- Stone and dungeon looks: Holystone, Grimstone, Temple Block, Mossy Temple Block, Waterstone and Lavastone.[3]
- Voidstone line: Voidstone and Energized Voidstone.[3]
- Tech and industrial looks: Factory Block, Technical Block, Laboratory Block, Futura Block, Hex Plating and Military.[3]
- Other decorative blocks: Antiblock, Tyrian, Paperwall, Shingles, Road Lines, Warning Sign and Valentine's Block.[3]
- Novelty items: Cloud in a Bottle, Ball O' Moss and the shapeless Smashing Rock.[3]
Each of these has an in-pack recipe, so the recipe viewer will show you the exact ingredients for whichever one you want to build.[3]
What changed in Chisel 3 between versions?
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships Chisel 3 version 26.1.2.17 (the file is chisel-26.1.2.17.jar). It was first included in All the Mods 11 0.0.10 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for a long time.[2]
The mod's own changelogs don't tell us much. The entries for 3.0.9, 3.0.10, 3.0.11, 3.0.12, 26.1.2.15 and 26.1.2.17 all say that no changelog was specified, so the sources here don't show what changed in any of those releases.[4][5][6][7][8][9]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for Chisel 3, so any recipe, config or behaviour changes between pack releases are not shown in the sources used for this guide.
