What is Chisel 3?

Chisel 3 is a building mod. It adds a huge variety of static blocks, so it is most useful if you enjoy the construction side of modded Minecraft.[1]
This pack includes Chisel 3 version 26.1.2.18.[2]
How it works
Most of the new blocks come through one tool, the chisel. Right click with it to open the chisel GUI, then place a block in the middle. You can turn it into other blocks of the same type.[1]
Extra throwables
The mod project page describes two more items, which you throw with a right click, the same way as snowballs. Each one does something different on impact.[1]
- Ball O' Moss: mossifies nearby blocks, for example turning Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick, and the same with cobblestone.[1]
- Cloud in a Bottle: creates a large amount of clouds on impact.[1]
The project page also says smashing rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area.[1]
How do you get started with Chisel 3?

Chisel 3 adds a huge variety of static blocks, and almost all of them come from one tool: the Chisel. If you like building, this is the first thing to make.[1]
Step 1: Craft the Chisel

This is the in-pack recipe for the Chisel, your key tool for the mod.
Right click with the chisel to open its GUI. Put a block in the middle slot and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type. Try it on a few of your building blocks to see the variants on offer.[1]
Step 2: Make the throwable items
Chisel also adds a few items you throw like snowballs by right clicking. They are cheap to try and fun for decorating.[1]

The Ball O' Moss mossifies nearby blocks when it lands.
For example, the Ball O' Moss turns Stone Brick into Mossy Stone Brick, and does the same to Cobblestone. It is a quick way to age a build.[1]

Smashing Rock decays the blocks it hits in a splash area, which is handy for rough, ruined looks.[1]
Step 3: Get Limestone and Marble
In this pack, Limestone and Marble have recipes that come from Mystical Agriculture. Each craft gives you 6 blocks.[3]

Step 4: Upgrade your tools
Once you are comfortable with the basic chisel, the pack also has recipes for the Diamond Chisel, the Obsidian Chisel and the Auto Chisel.[3]

How does Chisel 3 work?

Chisel 3 is a building mod, so there is no power, fluid or multiblock side to it. It adds a huge variety of static blocks, and nearly everything revolves around one tool: the chisel.[1]
The chisel and its GUI
Right clicking with the chisel opens the chisel GUI. Put a block in the middle and you can turn it into other blocks of the same type. That is how you reach most of the mod's variants, such as the many named patterns of Ancient Stone and the different Acacia Planks styles.[1][4]
The pack has an Chisel, a Diamond Chisel and an Obsidian Chisel.[3]

Other things worth knowing
- A biome modifier adds the feature chisel:limestone_upper to Overworld biomes at the underground decoration step.[5]
- You can also get Limestone and Marble through Mystical Agriculture essence recipes, and each of those recipes gives 6 of the block.[3]
- The loot tables shown for the Acacia Planks variants make each block drop itself, as long as it survives an explosion.[6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]

Craftable building blocks
Many of the decorative block families can be crafted directly, and the recipes give you several blocks per craft. Here is what each recipe makes:[3]
- 8 Antiblock per craft.[3]
- 8 each of Voidstone and Energized Voidstone per craft.[3]
- 32 Factory Block and 32 Tyrian per craft.[3]

Concrete is made differently: its recipe is a smelting recipe, not a crafting one.[3]
Drops
The loot tables I could check, for acacia plank variants such as braced, braid, paneling and shipping, make each block drop itself if it survives an explosion. I could not check the other loot tables, so treat that as confirmed only for those variants.[6][7][14][15]
What changed in Chisel 3 between versions?
Chisel 3 in this pack is version 26.1.2.18 (file chisel-26.1.2.18.jar). It has been in All the Mods 11 since 0.0.10 or earlier, so it is nothing new in 0.10.0-beta.[2]
The mod's own changelogs for 3.0.9, 3.0.10, 3.0.11, 3.0.12, 26.1.2.15, 26.1.2.17 and 26.1.2.18 all say that no changelog was specified. That means I can't point to any notable changes between those releases, and I'd rather not guess at what changed.[16][17][18][19][20][21][22]
