What is BBL Strainers?
2 parts
BBL Strainers adds strainers: blocks that let you find items in water and other blocks. The main one is the water strainer, which collects different items depending on what items you put in its slots.[1]
The mod's project page shows that the result is decided by a block placed on top plus the items in the other slots. Different combinations give different items.[1]
Customizable recipes
Strainer recipes are fully customizable. A single recipe can have up to 9 different outputs, and each output has its own count and chance value. That is why it pays to check what a strainer actually gives you in this pack instead of assuming the mod's page examples apply.[1]
In this pack
This pack includes BBL Strainers 6.11.3, and it has been included since this version or earlier.[2]
Unverified The sources here do not show where the pack's quest book places BBL Strainers (chapter, group, or what comes before and after it), and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses it. That detail lives in the pack's quest book, so check there.
How do you get started with BBL Strainers?
1 part
BBL Strainers is all about finding items in water and other blocks. The water strainer block collects different items depending on what you put in its slots. Here is a sensible order for getting started in this pack.[1]
- Craft a Strainer. The pack's straining recipes all use it as their recipe type, so it comes first.[3]
- Break leaves with a Stick to collect Leaf Pile.[4]
- Strain for early drops. The pack has strainer recipes in the leaves group that produce Leaf Pile, Stone Pebble and a Sapling Bag (What's inside!).[3]
- Craft Mulch from Leaf Piles. Mulch has its own strainer recipes that give Dirt Pile, Water Drop and Stone Pebble.[3]
- Move on to dirt and gravel. Dirt strains into Purified Dirt, Gravel Pebble and Stone Pebble. Gravel strains into Purified Gravel, and Purified Gravel is the input for the ore piece recipes, such as the iron, copper and gold ones.[3]

Meshes and bags
The pack has recipes for these meshes: Flint Mesh, Copper Mesh, Iron Mesh, Gold Mesh, Diamond Mesh, Emerald Mesh and Netherite Mesh. The recipe viewer shows an additional percentage for each level of mesh above the minimum mesh tier of a recipe, so it is worth checking there before you commit materials.[3][4]

The bags are handy. Right-click a Sapling Bag (What's inside!) to place a random sapling on Dirt or Grass. Right-click a Seed Bag (What's inside!) to place a random seed on Farmland. You can get the Seed Bag by straining Purified Dirt.[3][4]
How does BBL Strainers work?
5 parts
The core of this mod is the Strainer, a block that collects items based on what items you put in its slots. The project page describes it as the water strainer block.[1]

How straining recipes work
Every straining recipe in the pack uses the strainer as its recipe type. The mod's recipes are fully customizable, and a single recipe can have up to 9 different outputs, each with its own count and chance value.[1][3]
The pack's straining recipe ids are grouped by the input material, then the result. You'll see inputs like dirt, gravel, cobblestone, leaves, mulch, netherrack and end stone. Outputs include Stone Pebble, Gravel Pebble, Purified Dirt, Purified Gravel, Sand Dust, Eroding Drop and Purifying Drop. A few example recipes are shown below.[3]

Fluids
Some straining recipes need fluid. The recipe viewer tells you the amount in mB, and whether the recipe will consume that fluid or only requires it to be present.[4]
Fluid drops such as Water Drop and Lava Drop can be turned into fluid. The tooltip says that holding one and right clicking creates a source block of that fluid, and that they can also fill tanks like a bucket would. In this pack, the water drop comes from a mulch straining recipe and the lava drop from a netherrack one.[3][4]
Early-game materials
- Leaf Piles: break leaves with a Stick to get Leaf Pile. The pack also has a straining recipe for leaves that gives leaf piles.[3][4]
- Mulch: Mulch has its own crafting recipe (shown below). Related items you will meet are Dirt Pile, Stone Pebble and Water Drop.[3]
- Dust Block: Dust Block has its own crafting recipe, and the pack has a straining recipe that gives Purified Dust Block.[3]
- Sapling Bag: right click with Sapling Bag (What's inside!) to place a random sapling on dirt or grass. The seed bag works the same way, but places a random seed on farmland.[3][4]
- Depleted drops: the tooltip says they are useless and you can just throw them away.[4]
Mulch is crafted with a shaped crafting recipe in this pack.

Purified blocks and ore pieces
Straining can produce purified blocks: Purified Dirt, Purified Gravel, Purified Netherrack, Purified End Stone and Purified Dust Block. Straining also gives Ore Piece items, and the recipe ids point to modded materials: allthemodium, unobtainium, vibranium, dark gem, arcane crystal, runic, stellarite, uraninite and soulium. Some examples are shown below.[3]

How do you progress through BBL Strainers?
3 parts
The core of this mod is the Strainer. In this pack, the straining recipes all use the Strainer as their recipe type. There is a shaped crafting recipe for it, plus a shapeless reset recipe that also gives you a Strainer.[3]

The meshes
Meshes are the other crafted items. The pack has a recipe for each of these: Wooden Mesh, Flint Mesh, Copper Mesh, Iron Mesh, Gold Mesh, Diamond Mesh, Emerald Mesh and Netherite Mesh. They all use the bblcore shaped_component_copy recipe type instead of plain shaped crafting.[3]

What you get from straining
Basic straining outputs include Stone Pebble, Gravel Pebble, Leaf Pile, Dirt Pile and Water Drop. Mulch and Dust Block are made with ordinary crafting recipes instead.[3]
There are also straining recipes that produce purified blocks: Purified Dirt, Purified Stone, Purified Deepslate, Purified Sand, Purified Gravel, Purified Dust Block, Purified Netherrack, Purified Soul Sand, Purified Soul Soil and Purified End Stone.[3]
Other straining outputs include Seed Bag (What's inside!), Sapling Bag (What's inside!), Sculk Dust, Sand Dust, Salt Water Drop, Lava Drop, Eroding Drop and Purifying Drop.[3]
Ore pieces
Ores come out as Ore Piece items. The pack has ore piece recipes filed under purified gravel for coal, copper, iron, gold, diamond, emerald, lapis, tin, lead, silver, nickel, zinc, osmium, uranium and more. Under purified netherrack there are gold, quartz and netherite scrap, and under purified sand there is salt.[3]
The pack also has ore piece recipes for modded materials. Allthemodium is filed under purified dust block, unobtainium under purified end stone and vibranium under purified netherrack. Uraninite variants (poor, regular and dense) are filed under purified gravel, and soulium is filed under purified soul sand. Other recipe ids use the names silent, forbiddenarcanus, evilcraft and theurgy.[3]
Unverified The sources here do not show any quest in the pack's quest book that involves this mod, so this section follows the recipes rather than a quest chapter.
What changed in BBL Strainers between versions?
4 parts
All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta ships BBL Strainers 6.11.3, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.0.11 or earlier. No pack changelog entries mention this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs. Here are the changes that matter most when you play.[2]
Early balance work
- 6.3.3 fixed JEI showing meshes one tier above their minimum tier requirement. It also fixed some recipes that failed because their input counts were wrong, including the sand dust and dust recipes.[5]
- 6.3.5 fixed a missing Sapling Bag shift tooltip and a missing Ancient Debris recipe.[6]
- 6.3.7 made each mesh recipe require the previous tier. You now craft meshes in order instead of skipping straight to the best one.[7]
- 6.4.2 made strainers that contain fluid render a glass block around it.[8]
- 6.5.1 added a Sapling Bag from Mulch recipe.[9]
- 6.5.2 stopped Gravel Pebbles dropping from leaves. Leaves now give stone pebbles.[10]
The big overhaul
6.5.0 was the big one. It added Mulch, Dirt Piles (which can be crafted into Dirt Blocks), Salty Water and the Depleted Drop, which you get when fluid drops are used. It also added a family of purified blocks: Purified Dirt, Stone, Soul Sand, Soul Soil, Gravel, Sand, Netherrack and Dust Block.[11]
The stated aim of the balance changes was to reduce how much a strainer can generate by adding extra steps and lowering chances. The changelog calls this work in progress that may be tweaked later. The main changes were:[11]
- Breaking any leaves with a stick can now give Leaf Piles, and Mulch is crafted from leaf piles.[11]
- Mulch can be strained for Bone Meal, Stone Pebbles, Dirt Piles and Water Drops. Water Drops were removed from leaves.[11]
- The Sapling Bags drop moved from dirt to leaves.[11]
- Most ores now come from purified blocks, and chances for higher end resources were reduced.[11]
- Strainer recipes with a count in the item stack were previously ignored, and this was fixed.[11]
Storage, fortune and mesh tiers
- 6.6.0 let you break and replace strainers. Strainers now have 50 output slots, so the outputs use a scroll GUI. The changelog also said recipe tweaks were coming soon to revert most ores back to purified gravel.[12]
- 6.7.1 increased the effect of fortune on ores.[13]
- 6.8.2 added mesh tiers 9, 10, 11 and 12. The changelog said that currently there are no meshes in these tiers, which are mainly used for pack development.[14]
Recent changes
- 6.10.2 fixed salty water blockstate errors and a crash when a recipe has no fluid.[15]
- 6.10.6 moved Sal Ammoniac to tier 3 instead of tier 7.[16]
- 6.10.10 re-ran data generation.[17]
- 6.11.0 made the strainer calculate the total fluid amount before a recipe starts. The strainer screen gained a Fluid Amount icon showing how much fluid the current recipe needs and whether that fluid is consumed.[18]
- 6.11.1 updated NeoForge to 26.1.2.99 and BBL Core to 26.1.2-12.6.6, and fixed fluids so they work correctly in the world.[19]
- 6.11.3, the version in this pack, lets you craft a strainer to clear the fluids inside it.[2][20]
