What is BBL Strainers?
2 parts
BBL Strainers adds a water strainer block that lets you find items in water and other blocks. What the strainer gives you depends on which items you put in its slots.[1]
The mod's project page shows setups where a specific block sits on top of the strainer and different items go in the slots, including one that uses lava. Each setup produces a different set of items.[1]
Who it is for
If you like automating resource gathering, or you want a way to get items that are not found the usual way, this mod is worth a look. The recipes are fully customizable: each one can have up to 9 different outputs, and each output has its own count and chance value. Because of that, pack makers can tune what the strainer gives you.[1]
In this pack
The pack includes BBL Strainers 6.8.2, and it has been in the pack since version 0.0.11 or earlier.[2]
The mod is not on the ATM Star path, and no quests in this pack involve it. You can treat it as an optional extra rather than a required progression step.[1][2]
Unverified The project page describes the mod's default example recipes and outputs. This pack may have changed them, and no in-pack strainer recipes were available, so check the in-game recipe viewer for exact inputs, outputs and chances. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with BBL Strainers?
4 parts
Everything in this mod starts with one block: the Strainer. You put materials into it and it gives you items back. The recipes are fully customizable, so what you get depends on the pack, and the in-pack recipes below are the ones to trust.[1][3]
Craft the Strainer
Make the Strainer first, since every straining recipe in this pack uses it as its crafting station. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[3]

Get a mesh
The mod has several meshes, including Flint Mesh, Copper Mesh and Netherite Mesh. Some straining results get an additional bonus chance for each mesh level above the minimum tier, so better meshes matter later on.[3][4]

The other meshes, in the same family of recipes, are Iron Mesh, Gold Mesh, Diamond Mesh and Emerald Mesh. I'll link their recipes in the mesh section once you need them.[3]
Collect Leaf Piles and make Mulch
Leaf Pile drops when you break leaves with a Stick. The pack also has a straining recipe that produces it from leaves. Craft the piles into Mulch, which is the starting point for several early straining recipes.[3][4]
Straining mulch can give you Dirt Pile, Water Drop and Stone Pebble. A Water Drop can be held and right-clicked to place a source block of its fluid, and it can fill tanks like a bucket.[3][4]
Work up the chain
After that, the straining recipes chain together. Dirt gives Stone Pebble and Gravel Pebble. Cobblestone gives Purified Dirt. Gravel gives Purified Gravel, Sand Dust, Eroding Drop and Purifying Drop.[3]
- Straining Purified Dirt gives a Seed Bag (What's inside!). Right-click it on Farmland to place a random seed.[3][4]
- Straining leaves also gives a Sapling Bag (What's inside!). Right-click it on Dirt or Grass to place a random sapling.[3][4]
- Straining Purified Gravel gives Ore Piece items for many metals and gems, which is the main way to get ores here.[3]
- Dust can be crafted into a Dust Block, and straining that gives a Purified Dust Block. Straining the purified block gives more ore pieces.[3]

How does BBL Strainers work?
4 parts
The mod revolves around one machine, the Strainer. The mod's project page describes the strainer as a block that collects different items depending on what is in its slots, and says it can find items in water and in other blocks.[1]
Crafting Shaped

In this pack the strainer itself is a shaped crafting recipe.
How straining recipes work
Every strainer output is its own recipe of a dedicated strainer recipe type, which is why they all show up in the pack's recipe list. The recipe ids name an input and then an output. For example, there are separate recipes for turning dirt into a Stone Pebble and for turning gravel into Sand Dust.[3]
The mod's project page says the recipes are completely customizable, with up to 9 different outputs per recipe, each with its own count and chance. Use the in-game recipe viewer to see the real numbers for this pack.[1]
Meshes
The mod adds several meshes: Flint Mesh, Copper Mesh, Iron Mesh, Gold Mesh, Diamond Mesh, Emerald Mesh and Netherite Mesh. In this pack each one is crafted with a component-copy crafting type rather than a plain shaped recipe.[3]
Recipe viewer entries mention a mesh tier. The mod's text says a recipe gets an additional percentage for each level your mesh is above the minimum mesh tier. So a better mesh can improve your odds, but the exact percentage is not given in the sources available here.[4]

Progression chains in this pack
Straining outputs often feed into other strainer recipes. Here are the chains the recipe list shows.[3]
- Leaves can be strained into a Leaf Pile, and a Leaf Pile can also be obtained by breaking leaves with a Stick. A crafting recipe turns Leaf Piles into Mulch.[3][4]
- Mulch is a strainer input too. The recipe ids show it producing a Dirt Pile, a Water Drop and a Stone Pebble.[3]
- Gravel has several strainer outputs, including Purified Gravel, Purifying Drop, Eroding Drop and Sand Dust.[3]
- Netherrack can give you a Lava Drop or Purified Netherrack, and End stone can give you Purified End Stone.[3]
- Dust Block is crafted, then strained into Purified Dust Block. Straining that gives Ore Piece items, with a separate recipe for each material, such as alexandrite, allthemodium, ammolite, aquamarine, azure silver, black diamond, bort, carnelian, cinnabar, garnet and inferium. More recipes exist beyond the ones listed here.[3]
Dust Block is crafted with a shaped recipe in this pack.
Mulch is crafted from Leaf Piles with a shaped recipe.
Bags and drops
The Sapling Bag (What's inside!) places a random sapling when you right-click, on dirt or grass. The Seed Bag (What's inside!) places a random seed on farmland. A recipe for straining leaves gives a sapling bag, and a recipe for straining Purified Dirt gives a seed bag.[3][4]
The fluid drop items have a tooltip saying that holding 4 and right clicking creates a source block of their fluid, and that they can also fill tanks like a bucket would. The depleted drop item is described as useless, so you can throw it away.[4]
How do you progress through BBL Strainers?
6 parts
This section follows the in-pack recipes for the Strainers mod. Everything runs through the Strainer: every straining recipe in the pack uses it as its recipe type, so crafting it is your first job.[3]

Early straining outputs
The leaves recipes give Leaf Pile, Stone Pebble and a Sapling Bag (What's inside!). The dirt recipes give Gravel Pebble and Stone Pebble. The cobblestone recipes give Gravel Pebble and Purified Dirt.[3]
Mulch is its own small branch: Mulch has a crafting recipe, shown below. The mulch straining recipes give Dirt Pile, Stone Pebble, Water Drop and a Sapling Bag (What's inside!). Straining purified dirt gives a Seed Bag (What's inside!).[3]
Stone, gravel and sand
Stone and gravel are the next step. This branch includes Purified Stone, Purified Deepslate, Sculk Dust, Purified Gravel, Eroding Drop, Purifying Drop and Sand Dust. Here is the purified gravel straining recipe.[3]
The sand branch includes Purified Sand, Dust Block, Salt Water Drop and Sand Dust. The pack also has a crafting recipe for the dust block, shown below, plus a straining recipe that turns it into a Purified Dust Block.[3]

Nether and End materials
The netherrack recipes give Purified Netherrack and Lava Drop. The pack also has straining recipes for Purified Soul Sand, Purified Soul Soil and Purified End Stone.[3]
Ore pieces
The pack has a separate Ore Piece recipe for each material. The purified gravel recipes cover copper, iron, gold, diamond, emerald, lapis, tin, zinc, lead, silver, nickel, osmium and uranium, among others. The purified dust block recipes cover more exotic materials, including allthemodium, vibranium and unobtainium.[3]
The purified netherrack recipes cover netherite scrap, quartz, rose quartz, gold and crimson iron. Purified sand has a salt recipe, and purified soul sand has a soulium recipe.[3]
What changed in BBL Strainers between versions?
3 parts
All the Mods 11 0.1.1 ships BBL Strainers 6.8.2. The mod was already in the pack in 0.0.11 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]
Recent releases
- 6.8.2: Mesh tiers 9, 10, 11 and 12 were added. There are currently no meshes in these tiers, and the changelog says they are mainly used for pack development.[5]
- 6.7.1: The effects of Fortune on ores were increased.[6]
- 6.6.0: The headline feature is break and replace strainers. Strainers now have 50 output slots, so the block uses a scroll GUI for the outputs. The changelog also says recipe tweaks were coming to revert most ores back to purified gravel.[7]
- 6.5.2: Gravel Pebbles are no longer obtained from leaves. You now get a stone pebble instead.[8]
- 6.5.1: A Sapling Bag recipe from Mulch was added.[9]
- 6.4.2: Strainers with fluids inside now render a glass block around the fluid.[10]
The 6.5.0 rebalance
This was the big one. The changelog says the balance changes are meant to reduce how much a strainer can generate, by adding extra steps and lowering chances. It also calls them a work in progress that may be tweaked later.[11]
- New items and blocks: Mulch, Purified Dirt, Purified Stone, Purified Soul Sand, Purified Soul Soil, Purified Gravel, Purified Sand, Purified Netherrack and Purified Dust Block. Dirt Piles, Salty Water and the Depleted Drop (obtained when fluid drops are used) were added too. Dirt Piles can be crafted into Dirt Blocks.[11]
- Mulch is crafted with leaf piles. Straining it gives Bone Meal, Stone Pebbles, Dirt Piles and Water Drops.[11]
- Leaf Piles can now be obtained by breaking any leaves with a stick. Water Drops were removed from leaves, and the Sapling Bags drop moved from dirt to leaves.[11]
- Most ores now come from purified blocks.[11]
- Chances were tweaked: higher end resources are less likely. The changelog lists the additional chance per mesh tier above a resource's tier as changing from 0.15 to 0.5.[11]
- Fixed strainer recipes with a count in the item stack being ignored.[11]
Earlier fixes and mesh changes
- 6.3.7: Mesh recipes now require the previous tier to craft. You have to craft the meshes in order instead of skipping to the best one, which helps balance the mod.[12]
- 6.3.5: Fixed the missing Sapling Bag shift tooltip and the missing Ancient Debris recipe.[13]
- 6.3.3: Fixed JEI showing meshes a tier above their minimum tier requirement. Also fixed some recipes that failed because of wrong input counts, including the sand dust and dust recipes.[14]
