What is BBL Routers?

1 part

BBL Routers is a fully wireless transport mod for items, fluids and energy. Instead of running pipes or cables between your machines, you link inventories together and let the mod move things for you.[1]

This pack includes BBL Routers 2.14.2.[2]

The three pieces

  • Importer: attaches to the inventory you want to insert into.[1]
  • Exporter: connects to the inventory you want to extract from.[1]
  • Router Connector: the tool you use to connect Importers to Exporters.[1]

Exporters and Importers can both be filtered, for item stacks and for fluid stacks. Filters also support dragging from JEI, so you can set one up without hunting through your inventory.[1]

The mod also has integration with Mekanism gases and Ars Source, plus other mods.[1]

Unverified Where the pack's quest book places this mod (its chapter and group, and what comes before and after it) and whether the ATM Star path uses it are not shown in the sources here. That detail lives in the pack's quest book, so check there.

How do you get started with BBL Routers?

5 parts

BBL Routers moves items, fluids and energy between inventories without any pipes. You set it up with three pieces: an Importer, an Exporter and a Connector. Make them in that order and you will have a working link.[1]

Step 1: the Importer

Start with the Importer. It attaches to the inventory you want to insert into, so it goes on the chest or machine that should receive items.[1]

Step 2: the Exporter

Next is the Exporter. It is connected to the inventory you want to extract from, so it goes on the storage or machine that supplies the items.[1]

Step 3: the Connector

The Connector is what ties them together. It connects Importers to Exporters. When a link works, the game tells you with a message such as "Connected Exporter to Importer", and a block cannot be connected to itself.[1][4]

Step 4: keep an eye on your network

Once you have a few routers, craft the Router Manager (BETA), which is marked BETA. It shows the routers near it and has hints for linking and unlinking. Ctrl + drag from one Router to another links them, and Ctrl + right click on a link removes it. You can scroll to zoom, drag to pan, and middle click a router to rename it.[4]

It also flags problems for you, like a router that is not linked to any Exporter or Importer, or one linked to another dimension without a Dimensional upgrade. That makes it a good first stop when something is not moving.[4]

Where to go next

Exporters and Importers can be filtered for both item stacks and fluid stacks, and JEI dragging is supported. The mod also adds upgrades such as Speed Upgrade I, Item Upgrade I, Fluid Upgrade I, Energy Upgrade I, Tag Filter Upgrade and Round Robin Upgrade. Each has its own in-pack recipe, so look them up once your first link works.[1][3][4]

Tip: Build one Importer, one Exporter and one Connector first and test a single link before you expand. If the Router Manager reports that nothing is linked, check the link before adding upgrades.[1][4]

How does BBL Routers work?

6 parts

BBL Routers moves items, fluids and energy wirelessly. You place an Importer on the inventory you want to fill and an Exporter on the one you want to empty, then link them together. No pipes or cables are involved. The mod's page also says it supports Mekanism gases and Ars Source, among other things.[1]

The Exporter pulls resources out of the block it is attached to and sends them to an Importer. Its tooltip says it extracts every set number of ticks, and the interval changes with speed upgrades. The Importer receives resources from the Exporters connected to it.[1][4]

You link the two with the Connector. Shift right click an Exporter or Importer to set it as the target, then right click the other end to connect to it. If you try to link a block to itself, or the area is not loaded, the link fails and you get a chat message saying so.[4]

Exporter upgrades

An Exporter does nothing with a resource type until you give it the matching upgrade. Item, Fluid and Energy upgrades each come in five tiers, I to V, and each tooltip shows the amount moved per operation. The Energy Upgrade is measured in RF. Essentia Upgrades also come in tiers I to V, and the Exporter upgrade list includes them.[4][5][6][7][8][9]

The Importer accepts far fewer upgrades than the Exporter: only the round robin upgrades, the Blacklist Upgrade and the Ignore NBT/Components Upgrade.[12]

Choosing where things go

The Round Robin Upgrade makes the Exporter try the next connected Importer after each operation, so one Exporter can feed several Importers in turn. The Stack Round Robin Upgrade works on the source side instead: it takes turns between the stacks in the inventory, so each operation moves from the next stack rather than always the first one.[4][13]

Both of these are in the Exporter upgrade list, and the Importer accepts them too.[8][12]

Filtering

Exporters and Importers can be filtered for both item stacks and fluid stacks, and you can drag entries into the filter slots from JEI. The config screen has a button for each resource type. If no connected Exporter has the matching upgrade yet, the button shows a locked tooltip, but you can still set the filter.[1][4]

Importer Exporter and Distributor

The Importer Exporter (BETA) (BETA) exports and imports from the same block. You toggle its mode inside the GUI, which is titled either Configuring Exporter or Configuring Importer depending on the mode.[4]

The Distributor (BETA) (BETA) is linked to Exporters the same way you link an Importer. Whatever they send is shared out between every machine in range, narrowed by the Distributor's own filters. It has no storage and takes no upgrades.[4]

Router Manager

The Router Manager (BETA) (BETA) shows a flow chart of every Router connected to the Routers around it. Scroll to zoom, drag to pan, and hover a Router for details. Click a Router to open it, right click to locate it, and middle click to rename it.[4]

You can also edit links from the chart. Ctrl + drag from one Router to another to link them, and Ctrl + right click a link to remove it. Routers in another dimension or in unloaded chunks cannot be opened, highlighted or renamed from the manager.[4]

The chart is also a good way to debug a setup. It flags Routers that are not linked to anything, have no Exporter or Importer, or link to an unloaded or missing Router. It also flags a link to another dimension without a Dimensional upgrade. Routers are tagged with Blacklist, Dimensional, Filtered, Ignore NBT and Round Robin, and one disabled by redstone is labelled as such. The legend colours the links by what they carry: Items, Fluids, Energy, Essentia, Rift Energy, or a shared inventory.[4]

Tip: If a link refuses to form, check the chat message. The mod tells you when the area is not loaded, when you tried to connect a block to itself, and when no Exporter or Importer target has been selected yet (Shift right click to set one).[4]

How do you progress through BBL Routers?

4 parts

BBL Routers gives you a small family of router blocks and a long ladder of upgrades you slot into them. The upgrades come in numbered levels, so your progression is mostly about which router you build first and which upgrade lines you climb after that.[3][14]

Upgrade tiers

Most upgrades come as a numbered line, and each level has its own recipe. The numbered lines are listed below.[3][5][6][7][10]

Single-level and utility upgrades

What fits where

The Exporter accepts the widest set of upgrades: item, fluid, energy, speed, dimensional, round robin, blacklist and ignore NBT, plus the optional essentia entries. The Importer is much narrower and only takes the round robin upgrades, the Blacklist Upgrade and the Ignore NBT/Components Upgrade.[8][12][14]

Tip: If you only need to pull items in with a bit of filtering, the Importer plus a Blacklist Upgrade is all its upgrade tag allows. For speed, fluids or energy you need the Exporter.[8][12]

What changed in BBL Routers between versions?

4 parts

All the Mods 11 0.12.0-beta ships BBL Routers 2.14.2, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.0.11 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

2.14.2 (the version in this pack)

  • New Stack Round Robin Upgrade. Instead of taking turns between linked routers, it takes turns between the stacks inside an inventory (iron, then gold, then iron...).[20]
  • Fixed Round Robin and importers linked to several routers missing items. The scan for the next stack used to be shared between every link.[20]
  • Some textures were updated.[20]

2.10.0

Tier 5 Energy, Item and Fluid Upgrades arrived. They are now the highest tier and move 250 million RF, items and fluids. The changelog says they are expensive to craft but the most powerful upgrades.[21]

Filters and polish (2.7.0 to 2.7.5)

Version 2.7.0 added new item filters. The changelog says all of these features use a new Config Screen to set them up, and that recipes were added for all the new filters. They launched marked as BETA.[22]

  • Mod Filter: in an importer or exporter, only moves items from a specific mod.[22]
  • Tag Filter: in an importer or exporter, only moves items with a specific tag.[22]
  • Stock Filter: used in an importer to only allow importing items up to a certain amount.[22]
  • 2.7.1: fixed a crash in the TransferEngine when the tick is too fast in some cases. Visual connections now refresh after 100 ticks for removals, while additions should still show instantly.[23]
  • 2.7.2: the Stock, Mod and Tag filters lost their BETA label and now autofocus the search box. The Stock Upgrade can be searched by the actual item name (Iron Ingot, not iron_ingot), and the Stock Filter updates its item image better. Blacklist, Dimensional and Ignore NBT Upgrade textures were also updated.[24]
  • 2.7.3: fixed Exporters not dropping stored upgrades when broken, and fixed shift clicking into an Exporter freezing the game.[25]
  • 2.7.4: holding a wrench with a saved exporter or importer position now highlights that position in the world. Routers connected to those positions also show a red or blue outline.[26]
  • 2.7.5: updated networking code to fix some issues with filters.[27]

Earlier changes

  • 2.5.3: added some aliases for the importer and exporter.[28]
  • 2.5.0, the Transfer Update: transfer logic moved into a TransferEngine class, and item, fluid and energy transfers now all go through it. Other mods can register their own transfers and add their own buttons and menus to router screens. The Blacklist upgrade's wrong texture was also fixed.[29]
  • 2.4.1: fixed the Importer and Exporter sharing the same recipe, and changed the Importer, Exporter and Distributor recipes.[30]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so what changed for BBL Routers between individual pack releases is unverified. The list above only covers the mod's own changelogs.
