What is Sophisticated Core?

Sophisticated Core is in the pack at version 0.6.31, shipped as the file sophisticatedcore-1.21-0.6.31.631.jar. It has been part of the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Sophisticated Core does, who it is aimed at, or where it fits in the pack's progression. There is no in-jar guidebook and no platform description to draw on. I also found no ATM Star path entry or quests involving this mod, so I won't guess at any of that here.

How do you get started with Sophisticated Core?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Sophisticated Core is the shared base behind the storage screens of backpack and storage mods. The sources here show no items to craft from it directly, so your first steps are about learning the screen and settings you get once you hold a backpack or storage block from a mod that uses it.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no recipes or quests in this pack for Sophisticated Core, so there is no confirmed crafting order to give you. For what to craft first, look at the quest book and recipes of the storage mods that build on it.

What to do first

  1. Hover over a backpack or storage item. An empty one reads "No Upgrades or Inventory Contents". Once it holds something, the tooltip tells you which key to press to view the contents and shows its Stack Size Multiplier.[2]
  2. Open the settings and look at the player level settings. They apply to all your backpacks and storages unless a specific one overrides them, so set your habits here once.[2]
  3. Decide whether the screen should keep your search phrase. When it is on, the search is prefilled and filtered when you reopen the screen. When it is off, the phrase clears on close and everything is shown again.[2]
  4. Decide whether to keep the upgrade tab open. When it is on, the screen remembers the last open upgrade tab and reopens it next time. When it is off, all tabs start closed.[2]
  5. Choose how shift click behaves. When the option is on, shift click tries an open upgrade tab first and then the inventory or storage. When it is off, it tries the inventory or storage first and only then an open tab.[2]

Slot settings worth knowing

  • Slot Memory Settings let you pick slots that remember their contents and only accept matching stacks. Left click or drag selects a slot, right click or drag unselects it.[2]
  • No Sort Slot Settings let you pick slots that sorting ignores, using the same click and drag controls plus select all and unselect all buttons.[2]
  • Item Display Settings let you pick a slot whose item is shown on top of the storage.[2]
Tip: If you have a Stack Upgrade installed, right click it to convert it, as its tooltip says.[2]

The mod also has an enabled items option that comes prefilled with all supported items. Its tooltip says you change true to false to disable one, in the format item_id|true_or_false.[2]

How does Sophisticated Core work?

3 parts

The sources for Sophisticated Core only cover its interface and settings, not machines, multiblocks, power or fluids. What they do show is how backpack and storage screens behave: settings tabs, slot controls and upgrade tabs. Here is what I can confirm.[3]

Settings that apply to your storages

The player-level settings are described as applying to all backpacks and storages unless overridden. You can set your preferences once and then change them for an individual backpack or storage.[3]

  • Keep tab open: when on, the backpack or storage records which upgrade tab was last open and reopens it next time. When off, open tabs are closed when you close the GUI, and all tabs start closed the next time you open it.[3]
  • Shift-click into open tab: when on, shift-clicking a stack from storage or inventory tries an open upgrade tab first, then the inventory or storage. When off, the order is reversed, so the stack goes to the inventory or storage first and only then to an open tab.[3]
  • Slot memory: lets you pick slots that remember their contents and only accept matching stacks. Open the tab to modify the slot settings. There are select-all and unselect-all buttons. Left click or drag selects slots, and right click or drag unselects them.[3]
  • No sort slots: lets you pick slots that sorting ignores. It uses the same select-all, unselect-all and click-or-drag controls as slot memory.[3]
  • Item display: lets you choose a slot whose item is shown on top of the storage. Left click or drag selects a slot, and right click or drag unselects it.[3]
  • Export template: creates a data pack with an snbt file.[3]
Tip: Use slot memory on slots you want to keep for one item type. Use no sort slots for anything you want sorting to leave alone.[3]

Upgrade tabs and tooltips

Upgrades get their own settings tabs in the storage GUI. The sources list tabs for Advanced Compacting, Advanced Feeding, Advanced Filter, Advanced Magnet, Advanced Pickup and Advanced Void. There is also a Botanist's Workbench tab from the Chipped integration.[3]

The tank upgrade shows its contents as XP levels, in the form "X out of Y xp levels". It also has a control called "Level at which Pump Stops".[3]

Hovering over a storage item shows "No Upgrades or Inventory Contents" when it is empty, and a prompt to press a key to view its contents. Storages can also show a Stack Size Multiplier line.[3]

Pack config

The pack sets client.playButtonSound to true, so a click sound plays when you press the custom buttons in these GUIs.[4]

client.sortButtonsPosition is set to TITLE_LINE_RIGHT in the pack. The other allowed values are BELOW_UPGRADES, BELOW_UPGRADE_TABS and HIDDEN. Switch it if the sort buttons clash with controls from another mod.[4]

common.enabledItems is an empty list in the pack. The option exists to disable or enable items, which also disables their recipes. The empty list means the pack does not use it to turn anything off.[5]

Unverified How individual upgrades work in detail (compacting, feeding, magnet, void and so on), how many slots each storage has, and any crafting recipes are not covered by the available sources, so they are not described here.

Which Sophisticated Core config options matter?

2 parts

Sophisticated Core only has a few settings that matter to you here, and two of them are purely client-side GUI tweaks. Below is exactly how this pack sets each one.[4][5]

Client settings

  • client.sortButtonsPosition is set to "TITLE_LINE_RIGHT" in this pack. It controls where the sort buttons show up in storage screens, so they don't clash with controls from other mods. The allowed values are TITLE_LINE_RIGHT, BELOW_UPGRADES, BELOW_UPGRADE_TABS and HIDDEN.[4]
  • client.playButtonSound is set to true in this pack. That means a click sound plays when you press the custom buttons in the GUI. Set it to false if you'd rather have them silent.[4]
Tip: If the sort buttons overlap with a button from another mod's inventory screen, try changing the sort button position to one of the other allowed values, or HIDDEN to remove them entirely.[4]

Common settings

common.enabledItems is an empty list in this pack. The option is meant for disabling or enabling items, and disabling an item also disables its recipes. With an empty list, the pack's file doesn't list any entries to change.[5]

Unverified The sources only show the pack's current values, not the mod's defaults. So it isn't confirmed whether the pack changed any of these three options from the mod default.
