What is Mob Grinding Utils?
Mob Grinding Utils is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 1.1.10+mc1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.2 or earlier, so it's a long-standing inclusion rather than a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't describe what the mod's items and machines do, what its recipes or configs look like in this pack, or where it fits in the progression. I couldn't confirm any ATM Star path involvement or any quests that use the mod, so I'm not making claims about them here.
How do you get started with Mob Grinding Utils?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Mob Grinding Utils is all about mob farming, and this pack even has quests that point you toward its Entity Spawner. Here is the order I'd go in: first ways to kill mobs, then moving and containing them, then the XP side, then spawn eggs and the spawner.[2]
Step one: kill something with Iron Spikes
Iron Spikes are the basic option. They also drop the mob's XP. Mobs killed by spikes do not count as player kills, so keep that in mind.[3][4]

Step two: upgrade to the Mob Masher
The Mob Masher is the advanced, modular mob grinder, and you can enhance it with Mob Masher Upgrades. Unlike spikes, mobs it mashes do count as player kills.[4]

Step three: move and contain your mobs
The Mob Fan pushes mobs in the direction it faces and can be modified with Mob Fan Upgrades. Tinted Glass lets you see inside your farm without letting light in, and it is tough enough to withstand Withers.[3][4]

Step four: store the XP
Start with a Singularity Tank. The XP Tap attaches to the side of a tank and turns Fluid XP back into orbs, which is handy once you have XP stored.[3][4]

Step five: get Spawn Eggs with a Swab
The pack has quests for this trick: a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". Right click a mob with the Mob Swab, craft GM Chicken Feed with the used swab, then feed it to a Chicken. The Chicken won't survive, but you get Spawn Eggs. Not all mobs can be swabbed.[2][3][5]

Step six: build the Entity Spawner chain
The Entity Spawner needs a Spawn Egg in the top slot, XP Jelly Babies in the second slot, and a Redstone signal. It spawns mobs in a 3x3x1 area. Jelly Babies come from running XP through an XP Solidifier with an XP Mould Jelly Baby, and the solidifier needs Fluid XP in its tank. a quest in "?" walks you through this.[2][4]

How does Mob Grinding Utils work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Mob Grinding Utils is built around a simple loop: spawn mobs, move them where you want, kill them, then collect the drops and the XP. This section walks through how each machine does its part, using only what the pack's text and recipes confirm.[4]
Killing mobs
The Mob Masher is the mod's advanced modular grinder. Kills it makes DO count as player kills, so you still get player-only drops. You can enhance it with Mob Masher upgrades.[4]
Crafting Shaped

- Mob Masher Upgrade Sharpness, Mob Masher Upgrade Smite and Mob Masher Upgrade Arthropods each add +1 level of Sharpness, Smite or Bane of Arthropods.[3][4]
- Mob Masher Upgrade Looting, Mob Masher Upgrade Fire and Mob Masher Upgrade Beheading each add +1 level of Looting, Fire Aspect or Beheading.[3][4]
The tooltips give each upgrade's maximum as a placeholder, so the exact caps for the Masher upgrades are not confirmed here.[4]
Iron Spikes are the basic option. They drop the mob's XP, but mobs killed by spikes DO NOT count as player kills. That is the key trade-off between spikes and the Masher.[3][4]
Moving mobs
The Mob Fan pushes mobs in the direction it faces. You can toggle its area of effect in its GUI, and upgrades reshape it.[4]

- Mob Fan Distance Upgrade gives a Distance Modifier of +1 per upgrade, with a max of 10.[3][4]
- Mob Fan Height Upgrade gives a Height Modifier of +1, with a max of 3.[3][4]
- Mob Fan Width Upgrade gives a Width Modifier of +1, with a max of 3.[3][4]
For a straight belt, use the Entity Conveyor. It moves mobs and items along a horizontal vector, and mobs can spawn on it.[3][4]

Spawning mobs
The Entity Spawner spawns mobs in a 3x3x1 area. It uses a mob egg in its top slot and is fuelled by Solid XP Jelly Babies. XP Speed Upgrades and Spawner Height/Width Upgrades enhance it. Each Height or Width upgrade gives +1, with a max of 5. You can toggle the area of effect and offset its position in the GUI.[3][4]
If you would rather boost natural spawns, the pack has two dirt types. Delightful Dirt spawns more creature mobs, and a light level below 10 stops those spawns. Dreadful Dirt spawns more hostile mobs, and a light level of 5 and above stops those spawns. Delightful Dirt does not work in ocean biomes.[4]
The Golden Egg creates a 5x5 area of Delightful Dirt, and the Rotten Egg creates a 5x5 area of Dreadful Dirt. Both are used on Grass, Dirt, Mycelium or Farmland.[4]
Collecting drops and XP
The Absorption Hopper vacuums up items and XP orbs in a 7x7x7 area. You can configure it to push out on any side. Fluids go into tanks and items go into inventories. Each Absorption Radius Upgrade adds +1 to the radius, with a max of 6, and you can toggle the area and offset the position in its GUI.[3][4]

XP collected this way is handled as a fluid. The Jumbo Tank is a larger version of the Singularity Tank and holds 1,024 buckets of any liquid. An XP Tap attached to the side of a tank turns fluid XP back into orbs.[3][4]

Solidifying XP
The XP Solidifier turns fluid XP into edible XP jellies. It needs an XP mould and fluid XP in its tank. You can configure it to export horizontally, and XP Speed Upgrades make it faster.[4]

You craft a XP Mould Blank first. A blank mould can be converted into the XP Mould Jelly Baby, and that conversion can be reversed. The Jelly Baby output is also what fuels the Entity Spawner.[3][4]

Controlling the farm
- Ender Inhibitor Active inhibits teleportation for entities up to 8 blocks away. It can be attached to any side of solid blocks, and right-clicking toggles it.[3][4]
- Ender Dragon Death Muffler stops Ender Dragon death sounds within a 32 block radius, and right-clicking hides the boss bar.[3][4]
- The Wither Muffler stops Wither death sounds within an 8 block radius and also hides the boss bar on right-click.[4]
- Tinted Glass lets you see inside the farm without letting light in, and it is tough enough to withstand Withers.[4]
Unverified The sources do not say whether any of these machines need power, how fast they work, or what the Singularity Tank's capacity is. No config files for this mod are available either, so the values above are only the ones shown in the tooltips.
How do you progress through Mob Grinding Utils?
4 parts
The sources here show no quest guidance for this mod, so the order below follows the in-pack recipe chains. Several machines are built from other machines in the mod, and the later ones pull in vanilla ender and nether materials, which makes the order pretty clear.[6]
Early builds
Start with the basics. The Singularity Tank, the Entity Conveyor, the XP Tap, the Tinted Glass and the Mob Swab are the parts the rest of the chain builds on.[6]

Killing and XP handling
The Mob Masher is the first real step up. Its recipe needs Iron Spikes, so craft those first. It also needs a diamond, an iron block and a redstone block.[6]

Once you have a Mob Masher, you can add its upgrades: Mob Masher Upgrade Sharpness, Mob Masher Upgrade Smite, Mob Masher Upgrade Arthropods, Mob Masher Upgrade Fire, Mob Masher Upgrade Looting and Mob Masher Upgrade Beheading. Each one uses redstone dust and gold nuggets alongside an item that fits its effect.[6]
For storing XP, the Jumbo Tank is built directly from a Singularity Tank plus iron.[6]

Solid XP comes from a short chain. An XP Mould Blank is converted into an XP Mould Jelly Baby. That mould is used in a special solidify recipe to produce an XP Jelly Baby, and the jelly baby turns into a Solid XP. The block can be turned back into a jelly baby, and the moulds can be reset.[6]

Ender and boss-level parts
The last stage leans on ender eyes and rarer vanilla items. The Entity Spawner needs Solid XP, an ender eye, a piston, an iron block and a redstone block, so you have to get through the XP chain first. Its Entity Spawner Width Upgrade and Entity Spawner Height Upgrade use blaze powder and an egg.[6]
- Absorption Hopper uses an ender eye, a hopper and obsidian, and its Absorption Radius Upgrade uses an ender pearl.[6]
- XP Drain Singularity Tank is built from a Singularity Tank with an ender eye, a hopper and iron bars.[6]
- Ender Inhibitor Active uses an ender eye, glowstone dust, redstone dust and iron.[6]
- Ender Dragon Death Muffler needs a dragon egg and wool, and Wither Boss Death Muffler needs a wither skeleton skull and wool.[6]
Chicken feeds
The feeds are a side branch you can do whenever you like: Nutritious Chicken Feed, GM Chicken Feed Cursed and GM Chicken Feed. The GM feed is the one that uses a Mob Swab Used in its recipe.[6]

What changed in Mob Grinding Utils between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 4.14 ships Mob Grinding Utils 1.1.10+mc1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.2 or earlier, and the pack changelogs only record version bumps for it.[1]
Pack release updates
- All the Mods 10 3.0: updated from 1.1.7+mc1.21.1 to 1.1.8+mc1.21.1.[7]
- All the Mods 10 3.2: updated from 1.1.8+mc1.21.1 to 1.1.9+mc1.21.1.[8]
- All the Mods 10 4.5: updated from 1.1.9+mc1.21.1 to 1.1.10+mc1.21.1, which is the version still in 4.14.[1][9]
Unverified The changelogs only list the version numbers. What actually changed inside the mod in 1.1.8, 1.1.9 and 1.1.10 (fixes, features, balance) is unverified, because no mod changelogs for the shipped jars are available here.
