What is Fireproof Boats?

Fireproof Boats is included in this pack as version 1.21.1-1.0.4, so you can use it in your world without installing anything extra.[1]

Unverified The name suggests the mod adds boats that can survive fire or lava, which could help with Nether travel. No available source confirms what it adds, how it works, or where it fits in the pack's progression.

How do you get started with Fireproof Boats?

2 parts

This mod adds just four items, all of them boats: Crimson Boat, Warped Boat, and a chest version of each. Each one is made with a normal crafting recipe, so all you need to get started is a crafting table.[2]

Step 1: Pick your wood and make a boat

There are two wood types, crimson and warped. Pick whichever you have more of and craft its plain boat first. The chest boats build on the matching plain boat, so making the regular boat first is always the right starting point.[2]

Step 2: Upgrade to a chest boat when you need storage

Once you have a plain boat, you can turn it into Crimsom Boat with Chest or Warped Boat with Chest. These are shapeless recipes, so the layout in the grid doesn't matter. The chest slot takes any wooden chest, which means modded wooden chests count too, not just the vanilla one.[2]

Tip: Crimson and warped boats are fully separate crafting paths. A crimson boat only upgrades into the crimson chest boat, and a warped boat only upgrades into the warped chest boat, so match your chest boat to the boat you already have.[2]

Unverified The mod's name suggests these boats survive fire and lava and can be used on Nether lava lakes, but none of the available sources describe how the boats behave, so this could not be confirmed for this pack.

How does Fireproof Boats work?

2 parts

Fireproof Boats is a small mod, so there are no machines, multiblocks or power systems to learn here. In this pack it adds four items: the Crimson Boat, the Warped Boat, and a chest version of each, the Crimsom Boat with Chest and the Warped Boat with Chest.[2]

Crafting the boats

The plain boats use shaped crafting recipes, and the chest versions use shapeless recipes that start from the matching plain boat. That means you craft the plain boat first and then upgrade it. For the chest step, any chest in the wooden chests tag works, so modded wooden chests from other mods in the pack should fit too.[2]

The lava render option

The mod has one client config option, Client.changeLavaRenderType. It changes how lava is rendered to fix lava showing up inside your boat. This pack sets it to false, so the fix is off by default.[3]

Tip: If lava clipping through your boat bugs you, you can turn this option on in your client config. The config notes that it can cost some performance, and it recommends leaving it off on low-end systems.[3]

Unverified How the boats actually behave on lava (speed, buoyancy, whether you or the chest contents are protected from fire) is not covered by the available sources.

How do you progress through Fireproof Boats?

2 parts

This mod keeps things simple: there's no big tech tree to climb. The pack has four items from it, split into two wood types, crimson and warped, and each wood type has a plain boat and a chest boat. Every one of them is made with a regular crafting recipe, so no machines are needed.[2]

Step one: the plain boats

Start with the Crimson Boat or the Warped Boat. Both are shaped recipes built from their matching Nether wood. Pick whichever wood you have more of, since the two boats sit at the same tier.[2]

Step two: the chest boats

The chest versions are the upgrade. The Crimsom Boat with Chest and Warped Boat with Chest are shapeless recipes that use the matching plain boat, so craft that boat first. The chest slot accepts any wooden chest in the tag, so you don't need one specific chest.[2]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: fireproofboats:crimson_chest_boat

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: fireproofboats:warped_chest_boat

  1. Gather crimson or warped wood and craft the plain boat for that wood type.[2]
  2. Add a wooden chest to that boat in a shapeless recipe to get the chest variant.[2]

Unverified The provided sources don't confirm how the boats behave in the pack, such as whether they survive lava or fire, or how much the chest variants can hold. Test this in game before you rely on a boat over lava.

Which Fireproof Boats config options matter?

1 part

Fireproof Boats only has one config option in this pack, and it's a client-side visual setting: Client.changeLavaRenderType. It won't change how the boats work or how they're crafted. It only changes how lava looks while you're riding one.[3]

Lava render fix

This option changes how lava is rendered so that lava isn't visible inside your boat. Without it, lava can show up inside the boat while you're cruising across a lava lake. The catch is that the fix can cost you some performance, and the config itself recommends leaving it off on low-end systems.[3]

This pack sets it to false, so the fix is off. If you see lava inside your boat, that's the reason. It's a visual quirk, not a bug in the boat.[3]

Tip: If lava showing through the boat bugs you and your PC has performance to spare, you can set this option to true in your client config file. Because it's a client file, it only affects what you see. If your frame rate drops, turn it back off.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show the mod's default value for this option, so it's not confirmed whether the pack changed it or just kept the default.

What changed in Fireproof Boats between versions?

1 part

Fireproof Boats was already in All the Mods 10 by version 2.42 or earlier, so it has been in the pack for a good while. The sources here don't show the exact release where it first appeared.[1]

Pack release changes

  • All the Mods 10 2.44: Fireproof Boats was updated from 1.21.0-1.0.3 to 1.21.1-1.0.4.[4]
  • All the Mods 10 4.4: this release ships Fireproof Boats 1.21.1-1.0.4 (file fireproofboats-1.21.1-1.0.4.jar), the same version that 2.44 brought in.[1][4]

Unverified What changed inside the mod between 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 is not shown in the sources here, because no changelogs are stored for the shipped jar. The mod's own release notes are where those details would live.
