What is Fireproof Boats?

Fireproof Boats is included in this pack as version 1.21.1-1.0.4 (the file is fireproofboats-1.21.1-1.0.4.jar). It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Fireproof Boats adds, which boats or recipes it includes, or how it is configured in this pack. I'm not going to guess at those details. Check the mod in-game before relying on any specifics.

Unverified The sources don't place this mod on the ATM Star path or tie it to any quests, so there is no confirmed progression role for it in this pack.

How do you get started with Fireproof Boats?

2 parts

Fireproof Boats keeps things simple in this pack: the recipe dump shows a plain boat and a chest boat for each of the Crimson and Warped wood types. So your first steps are really a choice of which wood type you want to sail with.[2]

First, make a basic boat

Start with the plain boat. The chest boat recipes use it as an ingredient, so it comes first. It is crafted with a shaped recipe, so the layout in the grid matters. Here is the Crimson version, which gives you the Crimson Boat.[2]

5 × Crimson Planks

Recipe id: fireproofboats:crimson_boat

If you'd rather go with the other wood type, the Warped Boat has its own recipe.[2]

Then, upgrade to a chest boat

Once you have a plain boat, you can turn it into a chest boat. These recipes are shapeless, so you don't have to worry about where things go in the grid. The Crimson one gives you the Crimsom Boat with Chest.[2]

The Warped equivalent is the Warped Boat with Chest.[2]

Tip: Both chest boat recipes accept any wooden chest, so you aren't tied to one specific chest type when you craft them.[2]

How does Fireproof Boats work?

3 parts

Fireproof Boats adds Crimson and Warped boats, each with a chest version. The sources for this pack cover how those boats are crafted and one client-side rendering option, so this section stays short and sticks to that.[2]

Crafting the boats

The Crimson Boat and the Warped Boat each use a shaped crafting recipe, so the layout in the grid matters. Here are both:[2]

Chest boats

The Crimsom Boat with Chest and the Warped Boat with Chest use shapeless recipes, so you can place the ingredients anywhere in the crafting grid.[2]

Lava rendering option

The config option in the sources is Client.changeLavaRenderType. It changes the render type for lava so that lava is not visible inside boats. The config file itself warns that this is a potential performance hit and recommends turning it off on low end systems. This pack ships it set to false, so the fix is off by default.[3]

Tip: If you see lava drawing inside a boat and your PC can handle a small performance cost, you can set this option to true in the client config. If your frame rate is already struggling, leave it at the pack's default of false.[3]

How do you progress through Fireproof Boats?

2 parts

Fireproof Boats is a small mod, so there is no long tier ladder to climb. In this pack it adds a Crimson family and a Warped family of boats, and each family has a plain boat and a chest boat. Progression is just a short upgrade step within each family.[2]

The plain boats

Your first step is the basic boat for your wood type. The Crimson Boat and the Warped Boat are both made with a shaped crafting recipe from their matching planks.[2]

5 × Crimson Planks

Recipe id: fireproofboats:crimson_boat

Warped BoatMod recipe

The chest boats

Once you have a plain boat, you can upgrade it. The Crimsom Boat with Chest and Warped Boat with Chest use shapeless recipes. Each one combines the matching plain boat with a wooden chest, and any chest in the wooden chests tag works.[2]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: fireproofboats:crimson_chest_boat

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: fireproofboats:warped_chest_boat

Tip: Craft the plain boat first. Each chest boat recipe takes the matching plain boat as an input, so you can't skip that step.[2]

Which Fireproof Boats config options matter?

1 part

Fireproof Boats has very little to configure in this pack. The only option the sources show is on the client side, and it deals with how lava looks when you sit in a boat.[3]

Lava render type

Client.changeLavaRenderType is set to false in this pack. When it's turned on, it changes the render type for lava to fix lava being visible inside boats. The option's own description warns that this is a potential performance hit, and it recommends turning it off on low-end systems.[3]

With the pack's value of false, that render-type change is off. So if you notice lava showing up inside your boat while you sail across a lava lake, this is the option to look at.[3]

Tip: If your PC is on the weaker side, leave this option at false. If the lava-inside-the-boat look bothers you and your frame rate is healthy, you can try setting it to true in the client config file.[3]

Unverified The sources don't say what the mod's default for this option is, so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed it. No other Fireproof Boats config options are shown in the sources.

What changed in Fireproof Boats between versions?

1 part

Fireproof Boats has been in the pack for a long time. It was already included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 1.21.1-1.0.4.[1]

Pack changelog entries

  • All the Mods 10 2.44: Fireproof Boats was updated from 1.21.0-1.0.3 to 1.21.1-1.0.4. That is the version you get in 8.1.[1][4]

Unverified What changed inside the mod between 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 is not shown in the sources here, because there are no stored changelogs for the shipped jar. Whether anything about boats, recipes or behavior is different is unverified.
