What is Fireproof Boats?

Fireproof Boats is included in this pack at version 1.21.1-1.0.4. It has been in the pack since version 2.44 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what the mod adds, its recipes, or any config options, so I can't say how the boats behave in this pack. They also don't show it on the ATM Star path or tied to any quests, so there's no confirmed place for it in the progression. Check the mod in-game before relying on any specifics.

How do you get started with Fireproof Boats?

3 parts

Fireproof Boats is a small mod in this pack. The recipe dump shows only Crimson and Warped boats, each with a plain version and a chest version. That keeps getting started short.[2]

Start with a plain boat

Make the plain boat for the wood type you have. Both boats use a normal shaped crafting recipe from the mod, so you can craft them straight from planks.[2]

Warped BoatMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

5 × Warped Planks

Recipe id: fireproofboats:warped_boat

Add a chest if you want storage

The chest versions are shapeless recipes. You combine the matching plain boat with a chest from the wooden chests tag, so any chest in that tag works. Craft the plain boat first, then upgrade it.[2]

Crafting Shapeless

A pack shortcut: woodcutting

This pack adds its own woodcutting recipes for every boat in the mod, chest boats included. They are not part of the mod's own recipes. They take Crimson or Warped wood directly, so you can skip the crafting grid, and the chest boat recipes do not need a plain boat first.[2]

Crimsom Boat with ChestAdded by the pack

Woodcutting (sawmill)

Added by the pack. It makes the Crimson chest boat straight from wood.

Warped Boat with ChestAdded by the pack

Woodcutting (sawmill)

Added by the pack. It makes the Warped chest boat straight from wood.

Tip: Pick a plain boat if you just need to get around. Pick a chest boat if you want to carry items along. If you already use woodcutting in this pack, the pack's recipes are the quickest route to either one.[2]

How does Fireproof Boats work?

3 parts

Fireproof Boats doesn't add machines, multiblocks, or any power, fluid, or item-handling systems that the sources describe. What the sources do cover is how you craft the boats and a client-side setting for how lava is drawn around them. This section stays short for that reason.[2][3]

The boats and how you get them

The mod adds a Crimson Boat and a Warped Boat, plus a chest version of each: Crimsom Boat with Chest and Warped Boat with Chest. Each plain boat is a shaped crafting recipe built from its matching planks.[2]

Sawmill shortcuts added by the pack

This pack also adds woodcutting recipes for every boat and chest boat, using the sawmill recipe type. These aren't part of the mod itself. They let you make a boat or a chest boat straight from the matching Nether wood, in stem and hyphae forms, both stripped and unstripped.[2]

Lava rendering setting

The mod's client config has the option Client.changeLavaRenderType. Its file comment says it changes the render type for lava to fix lava being visible inside boats. The same comment warns that this is a potential performance hit and recommends turning it off on low-end systems. The pack sets it to false.[3]

Tip: If you notice lava showing through the inside of a boat and your PC can handle the extra cost, you can try switching this option on. If you're on a low-end system, leave it off.[3]

How do you progress through Fireproof Boats?

3 parts

Fireproof Boats doesn't have a long tier ladder in this pack. The recipe dump shows Crimson and Warped wood types, and each comes as a plain boat and a boat with a chest. The mod simply gives you boats for the Nether wood types, so there's no real power progression to climb.[2]

Crimson boats

Start with the Crimson Boat. It's a shaped crafting recipe, and you can see the exact layout below.[2]

Crimson BoatMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

5 × Crimson Planks

Recipe id: fireproofboats:crimson_boat

If you want storage on the water, upgrade it to the Crimsom Boat with Chest. This recipe is shapeless, so the arrangement in the crafting grid doesn't matter.[2]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: fireproofboats:crimson_chest_boat

Warped boats

The Warped line works the same way. You craft the Warped Boat, then turn it into the Warped Boat with Chest with a shapeless recipe.[2]

Sawmill shortcuts added by the pack

The pack also adds sawmill woodcutting recipes for every boat in this section, so you don't have to go through the crafting table. These are pack additions, not part of the mod's own recipes. Here are the Crimson ones:[2]

And the Warped ones:[2]

Recipe id: sawmill:fireproofboats_warped_boat_0

Warped Boat with ChestAdded by the pack

Recipe id: sawmill:fireproofboats_warped_chest_boat_0

Tip: The plain boat is the starting point for each wood type, so craft that before anything else. The chest version builds on it.[2]

Unverified The quest sources here do not show any quest tied to this mod, so there is no confirmed quest-driven progression for Fireproof Boats. Check the pack's quest book yourself if you want to be sure.

Which Fireproof Boats config options matter?

1 part

Good news: there's really only one option here that you'll want to know about, and it's a client-side visual setting. It lives in the Fireproof Boats client config file.[3]

Lava render type

Client.changeLavaRenderType changes the render type for lava, which is meant to fix lava showing up inside boats. The config file itself warns that this is a potential performance hit and recommends turning it off on low-end systems.[3]

This pack sets it to false, so the lava render type change is switched off. That's the lighter option for your performance. Since the option exists to fix lava being visible inside boats, you may still see that visual glitch while it's off.[3]

Tip: If the lava-inside-the-boat look bothers you and your PC has plenty of headroom, you can set this option to true in the client config. If your frame rate drops, set it back to false, since the config notes a possible performance hit.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show the mod's own default for this option, so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed it. No other Fireproof Boats config options are shown in the sources.

What changed in Fireproof Boats between versions?

The sources for this mod are short, so this section is too. Here is what the pack files and changelogs confirm about Fireproof Boats.[1][4]

  • Fireproof Boats was already in the pack by All the Mods 10 2.42 or earlier.[1]
  • All the Mods 10 2.44 updated Fireproof Boats from 1.21.0-1.0.3 to 1.21.1-1.0.4.[4]
  • All the Mods 10 4.11 ships Fireproof Boats 1.21.1-1.0.4, the same version that arrived in 2.44.[1][4]

Unverified What changed inside the mod between 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 is unverified, because no mod changelog for the shipped jar is available. The same goes for any changes to boat behavior or recipes in this pack.
