What is Colorwheel?
4 parts
Colorwheel is a compatibility mod that makes Flywheel and Iris work together. In practice, you can play Create 6 with shaders on and still get good performance. The pack ships Colorwheel 1.2.9+mc1.21.1, and it has been in the pack since version 4.13 or earlier.[1][2]
Who it's for
This one is for you if you like running shaders and also build big Create contraptions. The project page shows a Steam Deck test on BSL Low with 1,089 waterwheels. With Flywheel off you get 2 fps, with Create Better FPS you get 5 fps, and with Colorwheel you get 50 fps.[1]
Shaderpack support
Support comes in three tiers. Some shaderpacks support the mod officially and work out of the box, including Complementary Unbound/Reimagined since r5.7, Euphoria Patches since 1.7.0, and Solas Shader since v3.2. Others have non-official support through the separate Colorwheel-Patcher mod. Shaderpacks with no support can use a fallback mode.[1]
The fallback mode is a best-effort attempt, and the project page warns there will be rendering issues. It is better than nothing, but it doesn't replace a properly compatible shaderpack.[1]
Compatibility notes
- Iris Flywheel Compat has been incompatible with Colorwheel since version 1.0 because of conflicting mixins, and this won't be fixed.[1]
- Create Better FPS is compatible and may improve performance in some situations.[1]
- Iris/Oculus is the only hard dependency. If no Flywheel mod is present, Colorwheel disables itself.[1]
Where it fits in progression
Unverified Colorwheel is not on the ATM Star path, and no quests in this pack involve it. No recipes, configs or progression gating for it were found in the sources, so treat it as a rendering add-on rather than a progression mod.
How do you get started with Colorwheel?
2 parts
Good news: there's nothing to craft here. Colorwheel makes Flywheel and Iris compatible, so you can play with Create 6 while using shaders and still keep good performance. Getting started is about picking the right shaderpack and flipping a few settings.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm any items, recipes or quests for Colorwheel in this pack, so there is no crafting order to follow and no recipe to show.
Your first steps
- Make sure Iris (or Oculus) is installed. It is Colorwheel's only hard dependency. Colorwheel also needs Flywheel, and without it the mod simply disables itself.[1]
- Pick a shaderpack that supports Colorwheel officially. These work straight out of the box with no extra steps: Complementary Unbound/Reimagined (since r5.7), Euphoria Patches (since 1.7.0), Eclipse, Glimmer (since v1.5), I Like Vanilla (since v1.0.3), Just Colored Lighting (since 0.9.5), RenderPearl (since v2.8.0-beta.3), Shrimple (WIP), Solas Shader (since v3.2), Spooklementary (since v2.0.3) and Steadfast.[1]
- Open the shaderpack settings and turn on Entity Shadows or Block Entity Shadows if they're off. Many shaderpacks disable them by default, and you need them if you want Create contraptions to cast light and shadows. Also enable the light-casting options in the shaderpack's own settings.[1]
If your favorite shaderpack isn't on the list
Some shaderpacks have non-official support through patches from the Colorwheel-Patcher mod. These include BSL 10.1, Bliss 2.1.1 - 2.1.2, Complementary 5.6 - 5.6.1, Euphoria Patches 1.6.3 - 1.6.8, Photon 1.3a and Rethinking Voxels 0.1-beta9. Complementary 5.5.1 also works, but only with Colorwheel-Patcher 1.0.0.[1]
Shaderpacks with no support at all can use a fallback mode, which makes a best effort with the existing shaders. Expect rendering issues, but it beats nothing. Kappa, MakeUp Ultra Fast, Noble, Nostalgia, Pastel Shaders, Sildur's Vibrant, Solas Shader and Super Duper Vanilla were tested with Create without major issues.[1]
How does Colorwheel work?
3 parts
Colorwheel doesn't add machines, multiblocks, or any power, fluid or item handling, so there is nothing to wire up or automate. It's a rendering compatibility mod. It makes Flywheel and Iris work together, so you can run Create 6 with shaders and still get good performance.[1]
How shaderpack support works
What you get depends on which shaderpack you load. The mod sorts shaderpacks into three tiers.[1]
- Official support: the shaderpack was adapted for Colorwheel and works out of the box with no extra steps. Examples include Complementary Unbound/Reimagined (since r5.7), Euphoria Patches (since 1.7.0), Glimmer (since v1.5), Solas Shader (since v3.2) and Steadfast.[1]
- Non-official support: older or unadapted shaderpacks can work through custom patches from the separate Colorwheel-Patcher mod. Examples include BSL 10.1, Complementary 5.6 - 5.6.1, Euphoria Patches 1.6.3 - 1.6.8 and Photon 1.3a.[1]
- No support: a fallback mode uses the existing shaders as a best-effort attempt, the same approach Iris Flywheel Compat takes. It doesn't replace a properly compatible shaderpack, and rendering issues will appear.[1]
Some shaderpacks without support were tested with Create and ran without major issues. These include Kappa, MakeUp Ultra Fast, Noble, Nostalgia, Pastel Shaders, Sildur's Vibrant, Solas Shader and Super Duper Vanilla.[1]
Performance
The project page gives one benchmark, run on a Steam Deck with BSL on Low and 1089 waterwheels. With Flywheel off you get 2 fps, with Create Better FPS you get 5 fps, and with Colorwheel you get 50 fps. It's a single test on one setup, so treat it as an illustration, not a promise for every machine.[1]
Compatibility notes
- Iris Flywheel Compat has been incompatible with Colorwheel since version 1.0 because of conflicting mixins, and this won't be fixed. Don't run both.[1]
- Create Better FPS is compatible and may improve performance in some situations. That can happen because the flywheel:off backend is used, or because some blocks, like the factory gauges, aren't rendered using Flywheel.[1]
- Iris/Oculus is the only hard dependency. If no Flywheel mod is present, Colorwheel disables itself.[1]
Unverified The sources don't say which shaderpacks, if any, this pack ships with, or whether the pack changes anything about Colorwheel. There are no config files, recipes or in-game descriptions for it here, so check your own shaderpack against the support tiers above. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
What changed in Colorwheel between versions?
Colorwheel has been in All the Mods 10 from early in the pack's life, and the pack changelogs only record version bumps for it. This is the path it took to the version you have in 8.1, which is 1.2.9+mc1.21.1.[2][3]
- All the Mods 10 4.13: Colorwheel 1.1.0+mc1.21.1 was added to the pack.[3]
- All the Mods 10 4.15: updated from 1.1.0 to 1.1.1.[4]
- All the Mods 10 5.5: updated from 1.1.1 to 1.2.1.[5]
- All the Mods 10 6.2: updated from 1.2.1 to 1.2.2.[6]
- All the Mods 10 6.3: updated from 1.2.2 to 1.2.3.[7]
- All the Mods 10 7.0: updated from 1.2.3 to 1.2.6.[8]
- All the Mods 10 7.1: updated from 1.2.6 to 1.2.9.[9]
The mod list for 8.1 still ships 1.2.9+mc1.21.1, so there has been no Colorwheel change since 7.1.[2][9]
Unverified What actually changed inside Colorwheel between these versions (features, fixes or config changes) is unverified. The pack changelogs only list version numbers, and no changelogs for the shipped jars are available.

Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as colorwheel, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
