What is Cable Tiers?

3 parts

Cable Tiers gives you upgraded versions of the Refined Storage cable devices, so your storage network can move more items, faster. Its project page says it covers the importer, exporter, constructor, destructor, disk manipulator, interface and requester. The title also lists the autocrafter, and the page says the mod works with RSRequestify as well.[1]

This pack includes Cable Tiers 1.21.1-0.1.0 for NeoForge.[2]

Who it's for

If you already have a Refined Storage setup and the basic cable devices feel slow or cramped, this mod is for you. It's an upgrade path for the devices you already use, not a new system to learn.[1]

The three tiers

  • Elite: 9 more filter slots and 2x faster.[1]
  • Ultra: 27 more filter slots, 5x faster, with the stack upgrade integrated.[1]
  • Mega: 45 more filter slots, 6.5x faster, with the stack upgrade integrated.[1]

Special features

  • Tag filtering.[1]
  • Side-specific inputs for autocrafting.[1]
  • An import mode for autocrafters.[1]
Tip: Ultra and Mega have the stack upgrade built in, so you don't need to spend an upgrade slot on one for those tiers.[1]

Unverified Where Cable Tiers fits in this pack's progression is unconfirmed. The sources show no quests for it and it is not on the ATM Star path. There is also no in-jar guidebook to check. The tier speeds and filter slot counts above come from the mod's project page, and nothing confirms whether this pack changes them.

How do you get started with Cable Tiers?

3 parts

Cable Tiers doesn't add a whole new system. It gives you faster, bigger versions of Refined Storage parts: Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor and Disk Manipulator. The project page also lists Interface and Requester parts. So your first step is a basic Refined Storage network, and then you upgrade the parts you use most.[1]

What each tier gives you

The mod's project page lists these upgrade tiers over the normal part. Elite has 9 more filter slots and is 2x faster. Ultra has 27 more filter slots, is 5x faster and has the stack upgrade built in. Mega has 45 more filter slots, is 6.5x faster and also has the stack upgrade built in. These are the mod's own figures, and the sources here do not show whether the pack changed them.[1]

The mod has config options for the speed and energy usage of each tiered part. It also has options for whether the stack upgrade is integrated, so check your in-game values before you plan around the numbers above. The parts also come in a Creative tier, which has its own speed option.[3]

Tip: Hover over a tiered part in your inventory. Its tooltip shows how much faster it is than a normal one and how many filter slots it has, so you can read the real in-pack numbers there.[3]

Colouring your parts

The recipes the sources confirm are the colouring ones. Each tiered Exporter, Importer, Constructor, Destructor and Disk Interface has a shapeless recipe that pairs a dye with a part of the matching tier. That makes it easy to colour-code your network. Here is the blue Elite Exporter as an example.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any elite exporter
  • any blue dye

Recipe id: cabletiers:coloring/blue_elite_exporter

The other colours, tiers and part types follow the same dye plus matching-tier pattern.

The result is a coloured version such as Blue Elite Exporter. The recipe takes a part from the matching tier, so colouring does not change the tier.[4]

Where to start

Look at which part limits your network today, usually an Importer or Exporter, and upgrade that one first to the tier you can afford. The extra filter slots and speed from the tier list above are what you are paying for. No quests in this pack involve Cable Tiers, so the recipe viewer in-game is your guide for the exact in-pack crafting of the base tiers.[1]

How does Cable Tiers work?

4 parts

Cable Tiers doesn't add a new machine type. It adds upgraded versions of Refined Storage and RSRequestify parts: Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Autocrafter, Interface and Requester. Compared with a normal part, each tiered one is faster and has more filter slots.[1]

What each tier changes

  • Elite: 9 more filter slots and 2x faster than the normal part.[1]
  • Ultra: 27 more filter slots, 5x faster, and a Stack Upgrade built in.[1]
  • Mega: 45 more filter slots, 6.5x faster, and a Stack Upgrade built in.[1]

The in-game tooltip on a tiered part shows how much faster it is than a normal one and its total number of filter slots. Parts with the integrated upgrade also say they have a Stack Upgrade integrated.[3]

Special features

The mod's project page lists these extras: tag filtering, side-specific inputs for autocrafting, and an import mode for Autocrafters. The sources don't explain how to set them up, so try them in-game before you build around them.[1]

What the config covers

The mod's config has a section for each part type: Constructors, Destructors, Disk Interfaces, Exporters and Importers. Each Elite, Ultra and Mega part has its own speed option and its own energy usage option, so the energy a part draws depends on its tier and type.[3]

Constructors, Disk Interfaces, Exporters and Importers also have a per-tier option for whether the Stack Upgrade is integrated. Destructors don't list that option. Creative parts list only a speed option, with no energy usage or Stack Upgrade option.[3]

Unverified The pack ships no config file for this mod that the sources here show, so the actual speed and energy usage values, and whether this pack changes the mod's defaults, are not confirmed. The same goes for how much energy each tier uses.

Colored variants

The tiered Constructors, Destructors, Disk Interfaces, Exporters and Importers come in colors such as black and blue. You make a colored one with a shapeless recipe: a dye of that color plus any part of the matching tier. This applies to Elite, Ultra, Mega and Creative alike. As an example, here is the pack's recipe for the black Elite Importer, Black Elite Importer.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any elite importer
  • any black dye

Recipe id: cabletiers:coloring/black_elite_importer

The pack's recipe for coloring an Elite Importer black.

One quirk in the pack's recipe dump: the Disk Interface coloring recipes, such as the one for Black Elite Disk Interface, list the matching tier's Constructor tag as the input part, not a Disk Interface tag. Check the recipe viewer in-game if you want to dye a Disk Interface.[4]

How do you progress through Cable Tiers?

2 parts

Here's the honest picture for this pack: the recipe data I have only covers the dye-coloring recipes, so I can't give you a full tier-by-tier crafting path. What I can confirm is how the tiers are named and how recoloring works.[4]

Tiers and block types

The recipes show these tier names: elite, mega, ultra and creative. Each tier comes in these block types: constructor, destructor, disk interface, exporter and importer. For example, you'll see Elite Constructor and Creative Importer in the item list.[4]

Recoloring your cables

Every tier and block type can be recolored with a shapeless crafting recipe. You combine a dye with any item of the matching tier and type, and the result is the colored version. The recipes I can see cover black, blue, brown, cyan and gray.[4]

Gray dye gives you the plain, unprefixed item, such as Creative Constructor or Creative Exporter. The other dyes give a color-prefixed item, such as Black Elite Constructor. Coloring doesn't change the tier.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any elite constructor
  • any black dye

Recipe id: cabletiers:coloring/black_elite_constructor

Black dye plus any elite constructor gives the black version.

Tip: The disk interface coloring recipes take a constructor of the same tier as the input, not a disk interface. For example, the black creative disk interface recipe uses any creative constructor. That's how the recipe data in this pack reads, so check it in the recipe viewer before you plan around it.[4]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve this mod, and the sources here do not show how the base tier items are crafted or in what order the tiers unlock. For the order and what each tier needs, check the recipes in game.

How does Cable Tiers work with other mods?

4 parts

Cable Tiers is an add-on for Refined Storage. It adds upgraded versions of Refined Storage devices, and the mod page also lists RSRequestify as a supported mod. In this pack, the in-pack recipes that connect Cable Tiers to another mod all point to Refined Storage.[1][4]

Refined Storage is the upgrade path

The pack changed the recipes for every Elite and Ultra device it ships: the importer, exporter, constructor and destructor. Elite versions start from the matching Refined Storage device, such as Importer or Destructor. They also need an Advanced Processor and an iron storage block.[4]

Ultra versions are built from the Elite device of the same type. They need another Advanced Processor and a diamond storage block. The recipes below show the exact in-pack layouts.[4]

What you get for the upgrade

According to the mod's own description, Elite devices have 9 more filter slots and are 2x faster. Ultra devices have 27 more filter slots, are 5x faster, and have the stack upgrade built in. These figures come from the mod's project page, and the sources don't say whether the pack changes them.[1]

Tip: Each Ultra recipe uses the Elite device of the same type, so craft the Elite version first. For example, an Ultra Exporter needs an Elite Exporter, and that in turn needs a base Exporter.[4]

Unverified The mod page also mentions a Mega tier and other devices such as the Disk Manipulator, Interface and Requester. The recipe data available for this pack doesn't confirm how, or whether, those are obtainable here. No quests in this pack involve the mod.

What changed in Cable Tiers between versions?

There isn't much history to cover yet. The All the Mods 10 2.43 changelog lists Cable Tiers 1.21.1-0.1.0 as newly added to the pack.[5]

The 2.43 mod list ships it as the file cabletiers-neoforge-1.21.1-0.1.0.jar. That is the version you get in this pack.[2]

Unverified No changelog for the shipped Cable Tiers jar is available, so I can't confirm what changed in the mod itself or whether the pack altered any of its values or recipes. Earlier pack releases are not covered by these sources either.
