What is Better Advancements?

2 parts

Better Advancements is a quality-of-life mod that makes the advancements screen better. You still work toward the same advancements; the mod improves the interface you use to browse them. It's built for modded play, where you'll often see a lot of advancement tabs.[1]

This pack includes version 0.4.3.21 of the mod.[2]

What it changes

  • The advancements UI fills your screen instead of sitting in a small window, so you can see much more of each tree at once.[1]
  • You can change the colours of the advancement icons instead of the default gray, blue and orange.[1]
  • A setting can stop the advancements background from fading when you hover over something.[1]
  • Description boxes can grow slightly larger, which makes them easier to read.[1]
  • The title of the tab you're viewing appears in the title of the advancements screen, so you always know which tree you're looking at.[1]

Who it's for

It's for anyone who opens the advancements screen, whether you're checking your progress or seeing what a mod's tree has to offer. The mod's scope is only cosmetic and quality-of-life. It doesn't add anything you need to craft or unlock. It makes an existing vanilla screen much more comfortable to use in a big modpack.[1]

How do you get started with Better Advancements?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Good news: Better Advancements doesn't ask you to craft anything or hunt for a special item. It's a cosmetic and quality-of-life mod that improves the advancements screen, so your first steps are just about opening that screen and seeing what's different.[1]

What changes when you open the advancements screen

  • The advancements UI fills the whole screen instead of the tiny default window.[1]
  • You can change the color of the advancement icons, instead of the default gray, blue and orange.[1]
  • There's a setting to stop the advancements background from fading when you hover over it.[1]
  • Description boxes can grow slightly larger, so they're easier to read.[1]
  • The title of the current tab is added to the title of the advancements UI.[1]

That's the mod's whole scope. It tidies up how advancements look and read, and it doesn't add gameplay content of its own.[1]

Tip: If you want to tweak the icon colors or stop the background fading on hover, look for those settings in the mod's options. I can't confirm the exact option names from my sources, so I'm not listing any here.[1]

Unverified I found no recipes, quests or in-game tooltips tied to Better Advancements in this pack, so there's no crafting order to follow and no recipe block for this section. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Better Advancements work?

1 part

This mod doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. Better Advancements is a cosmetic, quality-of-life mod that reworks the screen you use to browse advancements in a modded game. Instead of new systems, it makes the existing advancements screen easier to use.[1]

What changes on the advancements screen

  • The advancements screen fills your whole window instead of sitting in the small default box. This gives you more room to see large modded advancement trees at once.[1]
  • Advancement icon colors can be changed from the default gray, blue and orange.[1]
  • A setting can stop the advancements background from fading when you hover over an advancement.[1]
  • Description boxes can grow slightly larger, so longer advancement descriptions are easier to read.[1]
  • The title of the tab you're viewing is added to the title of the advancements screen, so you always know which tree you're in.[1]

The mod is a successor to BetterAchievements, rebuilt for the newer advancements system. It is purely a display and usability upgrade. It doesn't create custom advancements itself, and the mod author points pack makers who want custom advancements toward a different mod.[1]

Tip: You don't need to build or craft anything to use this mod. Just open your advancements screen as usual and you'll get the bigger, easier-to-read view.[1]

Unverified Where the icon color and background-fade settings live, and what values this pack uses for them, could not be confirmed. No config files for this mod were available for this pack.

Which Better Advancements config options matter?

There are no config files for this mod in the pack, so nothing here has been changed from the mod's own behaviour. Everything you can adjust is on the mod's side, and it is all cosmetic or quality-of-life, since that is the entire scope of the mod.[1]

The two settings worth knowing about are the colour of the advancement icons, which lets you replace the default gray, blue and orange, and a setting that stops the advancements background from fading when you hover over it.[1]

The rest of what the mod does is not optional tuning, it is just how the screen is drawn: a screen-filling UI instead of the small vanilla one, slightly larger description boxes so they are easier to read, and the tab's title added to the advancements window title.[1]

Tip: Because the pack ships no config for this mod, none of these options affect gameplay, progression or recipes. Change whatever looks best to you without worrying about breaking anything.[1]

Unverified The exact names, default values and location of these settings in this version are not confirmed by the sources available for this section.

What changed in Better Advancements between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10 2.11 ships Better Advancements 0.4.3.21, using the NeoForge build for 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 0.32 or earlier. The changelogs I have cover only a few of the mod's own releases, and no pack changelog entries for this mod were available.[2]

Mod releases with changelogs

  • 0.4.3.21 (the version in this pack): creates the config file for Fabric if it doesn't exist yet. This is a Fabric fix, and the pack uses the NeoForge jar, so you shouldn't notice it here.[2][3]
  • 0.4.2.19: updated the mod to Minecraft 1.21.1, the version this pack runs on.[2][4]
  • 0.4.2.16: a build fix that makes sure a mapping exists before building. It changes nothing you can see in game.[5]

The changelogs for the releases between these versions weren't provided, so I can't say what else changed along the way.[3][4][5]
