What is Bad Wither No Cookie - Reloaded?

2 parts

Bad Wither No Cookie - Reloaded is a small quality-of-life mod that quiets the sounds Minecraft normally broadcasts across the whole world. It targets the wither, the ender dragon, and thunder. It can also silence any other sound a mod makes, if you configure it that way.[1]

This pack includes version 3.20.4, built for NeoForge on 1.21.1. It has been in the pack since 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Who it's for

It's most useful if you run wither or dragon farms, or spawners for those mobs. Otherwise those world-wide sounds keep interrupting you. The project page calls this out especially for servers with that kind of setup.[1]

The project page says the mod has been client-side only since 1.18.2. That means it can be installed on a client even if the server doesn't have it.[1]

Tuning it

The mod has a config file so you can pick which sounds to block. It also adds a /listen command that shows you the names of sound events, which helps when you want to silence a specific sound from another mod. Console output when a sound is silenced is off by default.[1]

Unverified The sources I was given don't show any quests for this mod, any ATM Star path involvement, or any pack-specific changes to its config, so none of those are covered here.

How do you get started with Bad Wither No Cookie - Reloaded?

2 parts

Good news: there's nothing to craft here. This mod is a sound silencer, not a content mod. It quiets the loud world-wide broadcast sounds that play no matter how far away you are.[1]

The sources I have don't show any items, recipes or quests for it in this pack, so there's no first-items-to-make order and no recipe to show. I'd rather say that than invent a progression.[1]

What it does

The project page says the mod silences these sounds: wither, End Dragon, thunder, and any other sound that any mod makes. It's especially handy on servers where spawners or farms for those mobs are running.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Install it on your client only. From 1.18.2 onward the mod is client-sided and no longer runs on the server, so it can be on your client even if the server doesn't have it.[1]
  2. Know the defaults. The project page lists the sound types it mentions as disabled by default, and the console output for a silenced sound is also silenced by default. The page doesn't say whether this pack changed any of that, so check the config file yourself.[1]
  3. Find the name of a sound you want gone. Use the /listen command, which shows event sound names, then add the sound you care about to the config file.[1]
Tip: The page describes /listen as the way to see event sound names. Run it when a sound bugs you, then use the name it shows when you configure that sound.[1]

Unverified This pack's exact config values, the config option names, and whether any sounds are silenced out of the box in this pack are not confirmed by the available sources.

How does Bad Wither No Cookie - Reloaded work?

3 parts

This mod has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation to learn. It's a sound filter that silences the loud world-wide broadcast sounds that certain mobs and events make. The project page describes it as a lightweight mod for exactly that.[1]

What it silences

  • The wither spawn sound.[1]
  • The End Dragon death sound.[1]
  • Lightning and thunder.[1]
  • Any other sound you choose to configure, including sounds made by other mods.[1]

This is handy on servers where spawners or farms for these mobs are running, because the sounds are no longer broadcast across the whole world to you.[1]

Client-side only

From 1.18.2 onward the mod no longer runs on the server and is purely client-sided. That means it can be installed on your client even if the server doesn't have it.[1]

Configuration and finding sound names

The mod uses a config file. The project page says all the sound types listed above are disabled by default, and that the console message printed when a sound is silenced is also off by default.[1]

To work out the name of a sound you want to silence, the mod adds a command called /listen that shows event sound names.[1]

Unverified The pack doesn't ship a config file for this mod that I can see, so I can't confirm the exact option names or the values the pack uses. The mod's recipes, items and in-game descriptions also aren't covered by the available sources. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

What changed in Bad Wither No Cookie - Reloaded between versions?

1 part

Bad Wither No Cookie - Reloaded has been in All the Mods 10 for a long time. It was already in the pack by version 2.25 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 8.1 ships version 3.20.4.[2]

Pack releases that changed the mod

  • All the Mods 10 2.36: updated from 3.20.2 to 3.20.3.[3]
  • All the Mods 10 7.0: updated from 3.20.3 to 3.20.4. This is the version you still get in 8.1.[2][4]

The pack changelogs only record the version bumps. They don't say what changed inside the mod, and the mod's own changelogs for these jars aren't available to me. I can't tell you what 3.20.3 or 3.20.4 changed in practice.[3][4]

Unverified What each mod update changed (fixes, features or config changes) is unconfirmed, because no changelog for the shipped jars was available.
