What is XyCraft Machines?

This pack ships XyCraft Machines 0.7.53. The mod has its own "XyCraft" chapter in the quest book, and that chapter is the best map of what it offers: tank-style fluid storage, item handling, a few automation blocks, farming helpers and some handy tricks.[1][2]
What you get
- Fluid storage: the quests call the Fluid Port the start of a great Fluid Tank multiblock. The Valve is the heart of that tank, where you pump or pipe fluids in. The Item IO moves items in and out of it, and can be toggled between output and input.[2]
- Item handling: the Item Port covers item storage and manipulation. The Soaryn Box is the chest of XyCraft and will not hold its items when you break the block. The Void Container makes any inventory under it a trash can.[2]
- Automation: the Extractor "grows" the block or item beneath it and moves it to an inventory above. The quest suggests cobblestone, amethyst or dragon egg generators. The Collector is a very cheap absorption hopper that picks up items within a 3 block radius. The Fabricator is the auto-crafter.[2]
- Farming and world control: the Accelerated Planter works like farmland, but it is watered automatically and is faster. The Water Block acts as water without the moving part. The Light Field stops mob spawns in an area of about a 32 block radius. The Ignition Plate spawns fire in front of it on a Redstone signal. The Fluid Void removes water within a 1 block radius.[2]
- Early flight: the Balloon on a Stick is described as an early and restrictive source of Creative Flight. Go too far and you get detached and fall.[2]
Where the quest book puts it
The whole mod sits in the "XyCraft" chapter. The Machine Frames quest (a quest in "XyCraft"), the Fluid Storage and Manipulation quest, the Item Storage and Manipulation quest and the Extractor quest all come right after the Kivi quest. The Machine Frames quest is the one the quest text says is needed to craft machines.[2]
From there the chapter branches. Fluid Storage and Manipulation leads to "Pipes" quest, "Item IOs" quest and "Valves" quest. Item Storage and Manipulation leads to the Soaryn Box quest, and after that come the Collector, Fabricator and Void Container quests.[2]
The "Light Field" quest, "Accelerated Planter" quest, "Ignition Plate" quest, "Water Block" quest and "Fluid Void" quest quests each need the Machine Frames quest plus a matching Xychorium Gems quest (light, green, red, blue and dark in that order).[2]

How do you get started with XyCraft Machines?

XyCraft Machines is built around a few simple parts that everything else grows out of. Start with those and the rest of the mod falls into place. Here's the order I'd go in, following the quest chapter in this pack.[2]
First, make a Machine Base
The Machine Base is the first thing to craft, because the quest for it says it's needed to craft machines. The recipes for the Fabricator, Valve, Item IO, Light Field and Water Block all use it.[2][3]

Next, craft your ports
Ports are the second building block. The Item Port and Fluid Port go into the Soaryn Box, Item IO, Valve and Hydro Pump recipes, so make a few of each. The two recipes are shown below.[3]

Grab a wrench
The fill or drain side of an Item IO is toggled with a wrench, so it's worth having one on you early. The mod has an Aluminum Wrench recipe, shown below.[3][4]

Set up storage and automation
The Soaryn Box is the chest of XyCraft. It won't hold on to its items when you break the block. In the quest book, the Collector and Fabricator come after it.[2]

The Collector works as a very cheap absorption hopper. It picks up items within a 3 block radius and puts them in the inventory below it, or in its own. Redstone can turn it off. The Fabricator is the auto-crafter: it takes items from the inventory below it and crafts a set recipe, and you can lock the recipe with CTRL Click. You still need to pipe out the finished items.[2]

Pick a utility block
- The Light Field works like a mega torch. Mobs won't spawn in an area of about a 32 block radius around it. See "Light Field" quest.[2]
- The Extractor "grows" the block or item beneath it and moves it to an inventory above it. The quest suggests Cobblestone, Amethyst and even Dragon Egg generators.[2]
- The Accelerated Planter works like farmland, but it's watered automatically and is faster than normal farmland.[2]
- The Water Block acts as water without the moving part. You can use it for cobble generators or to water farmland.[2]

How does XyCraft Machines work?

Machine Base and ports
The Machine Base is the starting block for several machines. The mod also has four ports: Item Port, Fluid Port, Energy Port and Chemical Port. Several machine recipes in this pack are built around them.[3][4]

The Charger charges items using external energy. The pack changed its recipe, and it uses an Energy Port.[3][4]

The mod also has Energy Pipe and Fluid Pipe blocks. If you use Jade, the mod adds its own entries to it: Energy Pipe Debug, Extractor Info and Tank Info.[4]
Fluids and tanks
The Valve block allows the creation of tanks, and its tooltip shows a maximum size. The tank screen shows the tank's capacity, or that it is empty.[4]
The Hydro Pump automatically pumps water into a connected tank. Its tooltip says it can be extracted from at a higher rate, and it lists a base rate per cycle and a separate waterlogged rate per cycle.[4]

The Collector is filterable and collects items before they become entities.[4]
The Fabricator crafts items automatically. Its screen lists three modes: Always On, High Signal and Pulse.[4]

The Item IO block has a fill side and a drain side, and its tooltip says the side can be toggled with a wrench. The mod's own wrench is the Aluminum Wrench.[3][4]

How do you progress through XyCraft Machines?

The pack's XyCraft quest chapter lays out a branching path rather than a straight line. Several early quests unlock after the Kivi quest, and from there you split into item storage, fluid handling and the colored-gem utility blocks.[2]
Step one: the Machine Base
The gateway quest is the Machine Base. The quest calls these Machine Frames and says they are needed to craft machines. The recipes for the Fabricator, Fluid Void, Ignition Plate, Item IO, Light Field, Accelerated Planter, Valve and Water Block all use one, so it is worth making a few early.[2][3]

Branch 1: item storage and automation
The Item Storage and Manipulation quest starts with the Item Port. The Soaryn Box and the Collector are both crafted from it.[2][3]
- Soaryn Box: the chest of XyCraft. It will not keep its items when you break the block.[2]
- Collector: a cheap hopper-style pickup block. It grabs items within a 3 block radius, drops them into the inventory below or its own, and can be switched off with Redstone.[2]
- Fabricator: the auto-crafter. It pulls from the inventory below and makes a set recipe. You can lock recipes with CTRL Click, and you need to pipe the output out yourself.[2]
- Void Container: put it on top of an inventory and the inventory becomes a trash can.[2]
Branch 2: fluid storage
The "Fluid Storage and Manipulation" quest quest introduces the Fluid Port and XyCraft's Fluid Tank multiblock. Three quests build on it.[2]

Beyond the quests, the pack rewrites a number of recipes. The changed ones are the Energy Port, Chemical Port, Charger, Isolator, Energy Pipe, Flare Rod, Hover Pack, Hover Pylon, Illumination Field, the Mekanical Chemical Condenser and Mekanical Fluid Evaporator, and the smithing recipe for the Perfected Gauntlet. Don't assume mod defaults for these.[3]

How does XyCraft Machines work with other mods?

The sources for this pack show one clear crossover with other mods: the Pipes quest, which lets you pick a fluid pipe from several pipe mods to go with the Hydro Pump. There is also a Refinery recipe that uses an item from XyCraft's world content.[2][3]
Piping water out of the Hydro Pump
The "Pipes" quest quest asks you to get a Hydro Pump and a fluid pipe from another mod. It accepts Fluid Pipe, Universal Pipe, Fluid Pipe, Fluid Pipe, or any of the Mekanism mechanical pipes, from Basic Mechanical Pipe up to Ultimate Mechanical Pipe. Pick whichever pipe system you already use.[2]
The quest says the Hydro Pump can automatically put water into those pipes at a slow rate, and for free. You use the pipes to get liquids into the XyCraft Tank. The Valve is where you pump or pipe fluids into the Tank.[2]
Aluminum in the Refinery
The pack has a Refinery recipe for aluminum ore slurry. It uses Aluminum Ingot, which comes from a different registry namespace than the machines, and the recipe also takes an item from a shared tag. The recipe is shown below.[3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use XyCraft Machines?

All of this mod's quests live in a single chapter called XyCraft. It starts with a fun standalone quest, then branches into fluid storage, item storage and a set of machine quests. Several of them unlock only after quests from other chapters.[2]
Where it starts
- a quest in "XyCraft" ("Up!") asks for the Balloon on a Stick. The quest describes it as an early, restrictive source of creative flight. You get attached to a balloon, and if you go too far you detach and fall. No prerequisite is listed for it.[2]
Quests that unlock after Kivi
Four quests list the Kivi quest as their prerequisite. Together they open up the rest of the chapter.[2]
