What is Pickle Tweaks?

2 parts

Pickle Tweaks is a Vanilla+ style mod: it adds a bunch of small, useful features and tweaks rather than a whole new tech tree. Every feature can be disabled individually in the config file, so the pack can keep what it wants. This pack includes version 9.0.5.[1][2]

What it adds

  • Crafting grid repair for broken tools and weapons, using their repair materials, just like an Anvil.[1]
  • Paxels, which combine an Axe, Pickaxe and Shovel, plus Flint and Emerald tools.[1]
  • Right-click crop harvesting that harvests and replants fully grown crops, and Scythes that do the same over an area.[1]
  • Sickles for mining plant material blocks in an area.[1]
  • Watering Cans that speed up crop growth in an area, in basic (3x3) and Reinforced (7x7) variants.[1]
  • Night Vision Goggles (basic and Reinforced) and an Item Magnet that pulls in items and experience orbs.[1]
  • Diamond and Emerald Apples that give extra buffs.[1]
  • Tooltip extras: tool mining speed and level, bow ammo count, and block harvest level in Jade or HWYLA.[1]
  • Tool breaking tweaks that make tools ineffective 1 use before breaking so you can repair them, plus a config-driven Tool Uselessifier.[1]

Where you meet it in the pack

You run into Pickle Tweaks very early. In Chapter 1, the quest "Collecting Leaves" quest has you make Flint Shears. They work like normal Shears but are cheaper, and you need them to get Leaves and Wool.[3]

Later, in the Food and Farming chapter, a quest in "Food and Farming" asks for one of the crystallized apples, and Emerald Apple and Diamond Apple both count. They are superfoods that give a wide array of buffs, depending on the apple, and the quest comes after the "Notch" apple.[4]

Unverified The sources do not show the pack's changed config values or recipes for this mod, so check the in-game recipe viewer before relying on default behavior. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Pickle Tweaks?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 guide

Pickle Tweaks adds a pile of Vanilla+ tools and gadgets. In this pack the recipes for its items are all marked as changed by the pack, so trust the recipe blocks below rather than what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the order I'd start in.[1][5]

Flint Shears first

Your first Pickle Tweaks item is the Flint Shears. The quest a quest in "?" in the starting out chapter has you get them, so it's a natural early goal. The pack changed this recipe.[5][6]

Grass Fiber and meshes

Next, make Grass Fiber from grass, then turn it into a Grass Fiber Mesh. The mod describes meshes as the way to craft Flint from Gravel.[1][5]

Flint tools

Once you have Flint, the mod's flint tools make a good early set. They include the Flint Pickaxe, Flint Axe, Flint Shovel and Flint Sword. Armor like the Flint Helmet is available too.[1][5]

How does Pickle Tweaks work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Pickle Tweaks isn't a machine mod. It describes itself as a collection of Vanilla+ style features and tweaks. The sources for this pack don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or pipe-style automation for it, so I won't invent any. What follows is how its item-based systems work.[1]

Crafting grid repair and tool breaking

You can repair broken tools and weapons right in a crafting grid using their repair materials, much like an anvil. A separate tweak makes tools and weapons ineffective 1 use before they break, so you get a chance to repair them first.[1]

Area tools and crop handling

Right-clicking a fully grown crop harvests and replants it. Sickles mine plant material blocks in an area. Scythes harvest and replant crops in an area and also work as an area weapon.[1]

The pack has recipes for scythes and sickles in several materials, for example Flint Scythe, Golden Scythe, Diamond Scythe and Emerald Scythe, plus matching sickles such as Flint Sickle and Emerald Sickle. The recipe dump marks these recipes as changed by the pack.[7]

Watering cans

Watering cans increase crop growth speed in an area. The basic version covers a 3x3 area and the Reinforced version covers 7x7.[1]

Coal and charcoal pieces

Coal and Charcoal Pieces each cook 1 item. In this pack you make them by crafting Coal Piece from anything in the coal tag and Charcoal Piece from charcoal. Both recipes are marked as changed by the pack.[1][7]

Other systems

  • Tool information tooltips add mining speed and mining level to tools, and show how much valid ammo you carry on bow tooltips.[1]
  • If Jade or HWYLA is installed, the mod adds the harvest level of a block to its tooltip.[1]
  • Night Vision Goggles grant night vision while worn, in basic and Reinforced variants.[1][8]
  • The Item Magnet attracts items and experience orbs to you.[1]
  • Meshes are used to craft Flint from Gravel.[1]
  • Diamond and Emerald Apples give additional buffs. In this pack, Diamond Apple and Emerald Apple are crafted from an apple plus the matching gem.[1][7]

The Tool Uselessifier

The config lets you list tools that can't break blocks, deal damage and so on. Affected items show tooltips such as "This tool cannot mine anything. It can only be used for crafting." Similar tooltips exist for hoes, bows and weapons.[1][8]

Unverified The mod page says every feature can be disabled individually in its config file, but no config file for this mod was available for the pack. It is unverified which features are on or off here, and which tools, if any, are marked useless.

How do you progress through Pickle Tweaks?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 guide

Pickle Tweaks adds extra tool and armor tiers plus a handful of utility items. In this pack, the sources show exactly one quest that touches the mod, and every recipe listed for it is flagged as changed by the pack. So the tier path below follows the in-pack recipes, with that one quest as the starting marker.[5][6]

Start here: flint

The only quest tied to this mod is in the Starting Out chapter. Quest a quest in "?" asks you to get Flint Shears. It unlocks after an earlier quest in the same chapter.[6]

Flint is the entry tier for the mod's gear. Besides the shears, there is a Flint Pickaxe, Flint Axe, Flint Shovel, Flint Hoe and Flint Sword. There is also a full armor set: Flint Helmet, Flint Chestplate, Flint Leggings and Flint Boots. Each one has its own pack recipe.[5]

Scythes and sickles

Scythes and sickles come in a long ladder: wooden, flint, stone, iron, golden, diamond, emerald and netherite. For example, you have Wooden Sickle, Stone Scythe, Iron Sickle, Golden Scythe and Diamond Sickle. Flint and emerald versions also exist: Flint Scythe, Flint Sickle, Emerald Scythe and Emerald Sickle.[5]

The last step is different. Netherite Scythe and Netherite Sickle are made at a smithing table, not a crafting grid, so you upgrade a diamond scythe or sickle instead of crafting from scratch.[5]

Utility upgrades

A few utility items come in a basic and a reinforced form, each with its own recipe: Mesh and Reinforced Mesh, Watering Can and Reinforced Watering Can, and Night Vision Goggles and Reinforced Night Vision Goggles. There is also a Magnet, plus Grass Fiber and Grass Fiber Mesh.[5]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Pickle Tweaks?

3 parts

Pickle Tweaks shows up in two quest chapters in this pack. One is right at the start, and the other is a food quest further along.[3][4]

Chapter 1: Starting out

Your first Pickle Tweaks quest is "Collecting Leaves" quest. It unlocks after the Flint quest. It asks you to hand in Flint Shears and also oak leaves.[3]

The quest text says Flint Shears work just like regular Shears, only cheaper. You'll need them to get leaves, and wool if you need that too.[3]

Food and Farming

The second one is a quest in "Food and Farming", an untitled quest described as "Crystallized apples". It comes after the "Notch" apple quest in the chapter.[4]

This quest accepts any one of three apples. You can hand in Emerald Apple or Diamond Apple, or use an apple from another mod instead. The quest text calls them superfoods that give a wide array of buffs, depending on the apple.[4]

Suggested order

  1. Finish the Flint quest, then do "Collecting Leaves" quest in Chapter 1: Starting out.[3]
  2. Later, in Food and Farming, finish the "Notch" apple quest, then do a quest in "Food and Farming".[4]

Unverified The sources don't say how these two chapters are ordered relative to each other, or what rewards the quests give.

What changed in Pickle Tweaks between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.2.1 ships Pickle Tweaks 9.0.5, built for Minecraft 1.21.1. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier, so it's one of the long-standing members of the mod list.[2]

Pickle Tweaks 9.0.5

  • Fixed Smooth Glowstone not dropping Glowstone Dust when you break it without Silk Touch. This is the version your pack runs, so you get the fix.[2][9]

That's the only change I can confirm from the mod's changelog for this version. I don't have any pack changelog entries that mention Pickle Tweaks, so I can't tell you what changed for it between pack releases.[2][9]
