What is Mob Grinding Utils?
2 parts
Mob Grinding Utils is your mob farming toolkit. The pack's quest book calls it very helpful for mob farming, especially in limited worlds like Skyblock. This pack includes version 1.1.10 for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]
Where it sits in the quest book
All of its quests are in Chapter 2: The Cool Parts. The entry point is "Getting Fluid XP" quest, which comes after the quest called The Cool Parts. Five quests branch off it: a quest in "Chapter 2: The Cool Parts" (the Iron Spikes quest), "Dreadful Dirt" quest, "Fans" quest, "Delightful Dirt" quest and "Entity Conveyors" quest. "Mob Masher" quest comes last, after the Iron Spikes quest.[2]
What the mod gives you
- Collecting: the Absorption Hopper picks up items and XP dropped in an area around it, and you can change that area in its GUI. Send the XP into a Singularity Tank to store it as Fluid XP, then right-click the tank with a bucket to collect it.[2]
- Killing: any mob that touches the top of Iron Spikes takes damage, but the spikes won't drop items that need a player kill. The Mob Masher needs a Redstone signal, and its drops count as if a player killed the mob. It can be upgraded for damage, Looting and Fire Aspect.[2]
- Moving mobs: the Mob Fan activates on a Redstone signal by default and blows items and mobs up to 5 blocks in front of it. Upgrades let it blow wider, higher and farther. Entity Conveyor moves mobs in the direction you place it, but it can't be made faster.[2]
- Spawning: feed a chicken GM Chicken Feed Cursed to get a Rotten Egg, which makes Dreadful Dirt for hostile mobs. Nutritious Chicken Feed gives a Golden Egg, which makes Delightful Dirt for passive mobs. Either egg covers at most a 5x5 area.[2]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star quest path uses Mob Grinding Utils is not shown by the sources here, so check the pack's quest book for that.
How do you get started with Mob Grinding Utils?
5 parts
Mob Grinding Utils is a great fit for limited worlds like Skyblock, and this pack introduces it in the quest chapter The Cool Parts. Here is the order the quests walk you through, and why each step comes first.[2]
First, get Fluid XP going
Your first quest is "Getting Fluid XP" quest. It asks for an Absorption Hopper and a Singularity Tank. The hopper picks up items and XP dropped around it and stores them. You set its collecting area, and where it sends XP and items, in its GUI. Point it at the tank and the XP is stored as Fluid XP.[2]
The hopper's tooltip says it vacuums up items and XP orbs in a 7x7x7 area. You can push that range out with Absorption Radius Upgrade.[3]

To collect the Fluid XP, right-click the tank with a bucket. You will need it later, because the chicken feed quests ask for 4 buckets of it.[2]
Next, something to do the killing
After Getting Fluid XP comes the quest for Iron Spikes. The quest says they aren't cheap or easy to craft, but they do the job. Any mob that touches the top of the spikes takes damage, and if it dies it drops its loot and XP.[2]

Then, upgrade to the Mob Masher
The "Mob Masher" quest quest unlocks after the spikes. The Mob Masher needs a Redstone signal to work. Mobs that touch it are torn apart, and unlike spikes, mashed mobs do count as player kills. It also takes upgrades that boost damage, looting and even add Fire Aspect.[2][3]

Finally, move your mobs around
Once Fluid XP is set up, two quests cover moving mobs. The Mob Fan ("Fans" quest) activates by default when it gets a Redstone signal, and blows items and mobs up to 5 blocks in front of it. Right-click it to add upgrades that make it blow wider, higher and farther.[2]

The Entity Conveyor ("Entity Conveyors" quest) moves mobs in the direction you place it. Mobs can spawn on top of it, unless they need a specific block to spawn on. You can't make conveyors faster, since only fans can be upgraded.[2][3]

Where to go next
Two more quests also unlock after Getting Fluid XP. "Delightful Dirt" quest uses Nutritious Chicken Feed to make Delightful Dirt, which spawns passive mobs more often. "Dreadful Dirt" quest uses GM Chicken Feed Cursed to make Dreadful Dirt, which spawns hostile mobs more often. Each feed needs 4 buckets of Fluid XP, so your tank setup pays off right away.[2]
How does Mob Grinding Utils work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 0.6.0-beta guide
Mob Grinding Utils is a toolkit for building mob farms: you spawn mobs, herd them, kill them, then collect the drops and the XP. The details below come from the mod's own in-game tooltips and descriptions, plus the pack's recipe list.[5][6]
Unverified No config file for this mod is available in the pack sources, so any value the pack might have changed through config is unconfirmed. The numbers below are what the mod's tooltips state.
Spawning mobs
The Entity Spawner spawns mobs in a 3x3x1 area. You put a mob egg in its top slot, and it is fuelled by XP Jelly Baby items. It is enhanced with XP Speed Upgrades and the Entity Spawner Height Upgrade and Entity Spawner Width Upgrade. In its GUI you can toggle the area of effect and offset the position.[5]
For passive spawning, the mod has two special dirt blocks. Delightful Dirt spawns more creature mobs, and a light level below 10 stops those spawns. It does not work in ocean biomes. Dreadful Dirt spawns more hostile mobs, and a light level of 5 and above stops those spawns.[5]
You lay these blocks down with eggs. A Golden Egg creates a 5x5 area of Delightful Dirt, and a Rotten Egg creates a 5x5 area of Dreadful Dirt. Both are used on grass, dirt, mycelium or farmland. The chicken feed tooltips mention these eggs: the feed is single use for the chicken and creates either a Rotten Egg or a Golden Egg.[5]

Moving mobs
The Mob Fan pushes mobs in the direction it faces, and you can toggle its area of effect in its GUI. Its upgrades each add +1: Distance up to a max of 10, Height up to a max of 3, and Width up to a max of 3.[5]
The Entity Conveyor moves mobs and items along a horizontal vector. Mobs can also spawn on it.[5]

Killing mobs
Iron Spikes are the basic option. They also drop the mob's XP, but mobs killed by spikes do not count as player kills.[5]
The Mob Masher is the advanced, modular grinder. Mobs it mashes do count as player kills. It takes Mob Masher upgrades for Arthropods, Beheading, Fire, Looting, Sharpness and Smite. Each upgrade adds +1 of its enchantment-style effect, up to a maximum.[5]

Collecting drops and XP
The Absorption Hopper vacuums up items and XP orbs in a 7x7x7 area. You can configure it to push out on any side, so fluids go into tanks and items go into inventories. The Absorption Radius Upgrade increases its range by +1 each, up to a max of 6. In its GUI you can toggle the area of effect and offset the position on each axis.[5]

Storing and using XP
The Jumbo Tank is a larger version of the Singularity Tank (Singularity Tank) and holds 1024 buckets of any liquid. The XP Tap attaches to the side of a tank and turns fluid XP back into orbs. The XP Drain Singularity Tank is a separate tank variant with its own recipe.[5][6]

The XP Solidifier turns fluid XP into edible XP jellies. It needs an XP mould and fluid XP in its tank. You can configure it to export horizontally, and XP Speed Upgrades make it faster.[5]
In this pack, the solidifier makes an XP Jelly Baby from an XP Mould Jelly Baby. You can craft a blank mould into the jelly baby mould, and turn it back again.[6]

Farm utilities
- Tinted Glass lets you see inside the farm without letting light in, and it is tough enough to withstand Withers.[5]
- The Ender Inhibitor stops teleportation for entities up to 8 blocks away. It attaches to any side of solid blocks, and you right click it to activate or deactivate it.[5]
- The Ender Dragon Death Muffler stops Ender Dragon death sounds within a 32 block radius. Right click it to hide the boss bar.[5]
- The Wither Boss Death Muffler works the same way for Wither death sounds, within an 8 block radius.[5]
How do you progress through Mob Grinding Utils?
4 parts
In this pack, Mob Grinding Utils is introduced in Chapter 2, "The Cool Parts". There are no formal tiers. Instead, one quest opens up several branches, and you can pick the order that suits your skyblock. Everything starts with "Getting Fluid XP" quest.[2]
Step 1: Fluid XP storage
The first quest asks for an Absorption Hopper and a Singularity Tank. The hopper picks up items and XP dropped in an area around it and stores them. Open its GUI to change the collecting area and where it sends XP or items. Point the XP at the tank and it is stored as Fluid XP, which you collect by right-clicking the tank with a bucket.[2]

Step 2: Killing mobs
After the Fluid XP quest, the next quest gives you Iron Spikes. Any mob that touches the top of the spikes takes damage, and if it dies it drops its loot and XP. The quest warns that they are not cheap or easy to craft.[2]

The "Mob Masher" quest quest follows the spikes quest and gives you the Mob Masher. It needs a Redstone signal to work. Mobs that touch it are torn to shreds and drop items as if a player had killed them.[2]

Like fans, the Masher can be upgraded. The quest mentions more damage, Looting and Fire Aspect. The pack has recipes for upgrades such as Mob Masher Upgrade Looting and Mob Masher Upgrade Fire, plus sharpness, smite, arthropod and beheading versions.[2][4]
Step 3: Moving mobs
The "Fans" quest quest gives you the Mob Fan. By default it activates with a Redstone signal and blows items and mobs up to 5 blocks in front of it. You add upgrades by right-clicking the fan, and they let it blow wider, higher and farther.[2]

The fan upgrades are Mob Fan Width Upgrade, Mob Fan Height Upgrade and Mob Fan Distance Upgrade, which is named Distance Upgrade in game.[2][4]
"Entity Conveyors" quest gives you the Entity Conveyor. Mobs can spawn on top of conveyors unless they need a specific block, and the conveyor moves them in the direction it is placed. Conveyors can't be sped up, because only fans take upgrades.[2]

Step 4: Better spawning with special dirt
Two quests unlock boosted spawning. "Delightful Dirt" quest is for passive mobs. You make Nutritious Chicken Feed and feed it to a chicken, which costs the chicken's life and gives a Golden Egg. Placing the egg on dirt makes an area of Delightful Dirt, up to 5x5. It spawns passive mobs much more commonly than normal dirt. The quest says the crops or their seeds all come from sieving dirt.[2]

"Dreadful Dirt" quest is for hostile mobs. You make GM Chicken Feed Cursed from drops of zombies, skeletons, spiders and creepers. Feeding it to a chicken gives a Rotten Egg, and the chicken explodes. Placing the egg on dirt makes up to a 5x5 of Dreadful Dirt, which spawns hostile mobs when it is dark. The quest puts the rate at about 10 times normal, and it can include mobs you don't see often.[2]

Unverified Both feed quests describe 4 buckets of Fluid XP as part of the cost, but the recipe data available here doesn't show a fluid ingredient for either feed. Check the recipe viewer in game before you fill buckets. This site does hold All the Mods 10: To the Sky's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
Unverified The pack has no quests for later machines such as the XP Solidifier, Entity Spawner, Jumbo Tank or the death mufflers. Their recipes exist, but this guide can't confirm where they fit in the progression.
How does Mob Grinding Utils work with other mods?
2 parts
The clearest link between Mob Grinding Utils and another mod in this pack is Fluid XP. The pack adds two recipes in the Integrated Dynamics namespace, one for the drying basin and one for the mechanical drying basin. Both involve Block of Experience and Fluid Xp.[4]
Drying Basin (integrateddynamics)
Recipe id: integrateddynamics:kjs/awsxo2k7mlmrl32gnutdwzbu3
Drying basin recipe, added by the pack.
Mechanical Drying Basin (integrateddynamics)
Recipe id: integrateddynamics:kjs/5dye54f7kkp0e9nuoqiidmp4b
Mechanical drying basin version, also added by the pack.
Both recipes are marked as added by the pack, so they are not part of the base mod.[4]
Where Fluid XP comes from
The quest "Getting Fluid XP" quest shows how you get Fluid XP in the first place. You build an Absorption Hopper, which picks up items and XP dropped in an area around it. You then send the XP to a Singularity Tank, which stores it as Fluid XP, and you can right-click the tank with a bucket to collect it.[2]
Quests that reach beyond the mod
The Mob Grinding Utils quests only ask you to obtain this mod's own items, but two of them describe ingredients from outside it. "Delightful Dirt" quest says the 4 crops or their seeds needed for Nutritious Chicken Feed are all obtained through sieving dirt. "Dreadful Dirt" quest has you use drops from Zombies, Skeletons, Spiders and Creepers to make GM Chicken Feed Cursed. Both feeds also use 4 buckets of Fluid XP, which ties them back to the tank setup.[2]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Mob Grinding Utils?
3 parts
All of this mod's quests live in one chapter, Chapter 2: The Cool Parts. They form a small tree that starts with one quest and branches out from there. The pack's own quest text sells the mod as a great way to farm mobs in limited worlds like Skyblock.[2]
Start here: Fluid XP
Everything begins with "Getting Fluid XP" quest. It asks you to get an Absorption Hopper and a Singularity Tank. The hopper picks up items and XP dropped in an area around it, and you can change that area in its GUI. It can also change where it sends XP and items. Send the XP into the tank and it's stored as Fluid XP, which you can collect by right-clicking the tank with a bucket.[2]
Every other quest in the chapter comes after this one, so do it first.[2]
The branches
Five quests unlock once Getting Fluid XP is done. The sources only show what each one comes after, so I can't tell you any set order among them. The Mob Masher quest is the exception, and it comes last.[2]
- a quest in "Chapter 2: The Cool Parts" (untitled) asks for Iron Spikes. Any mob that touches the top of the spikes takes damage, and if it dies it drops its loot and XP. The quest warns that the spikes won't drop items that require the mob to be killed by a player.[2]
- "Fans" quest asks for the Mob Fan. By default it activates with a redstone signal and blows items and mobs up to 5 blocks in front of it. You can craft upgrades and right-click them into the fan to make it blow wider, higher and farther.[2]
- "Entity Conveyors" quest asks for the Entity Conveyor. It moves mobs in the direction it's placed. Mobs can spawn on top of it unless they need a specific block. Conveyors can't be made faster, because only fans can be upgraded.[2]
- "Delightful Dirt" quest is the passive-mob quest and asks for Nutritious Chicken Feed. Feeding it to a chicken (which costs the chicken its life) gives a Golden Egg. Placed on dirt, the egg makes at most a 5x5 area of Delightful Dirt, which spawns passive mobs much more commonly than normal dirt.[2]
- "Dreadful Dirt" quest is the hostile-mob quest and asks for GM Chicken Feed Cursed. A chicken fed with it explodes and leaves a Rotten Egg. Placed on dirt, that makes up to a 5x5 area of Dreadful Dirt, which spawns hostile mobs when it's dark, at roughly 10 times the rate.[2]
Finishing with the Mob Masher
"Mob Masher" quest asks for the Mob Masher and comes after the Iron Spikes quest, a quest in "Chapter 2: The Cool Parts". It needs a redstone signal to work, and any mob that touches it is torn up. Unlike the spikes, mobs drop items as if a player had killed them. Like fans, Mob Mashers can be upgraded for more damage, Looting and even Fire Aspect.[2]
