Macaw's Paths and Pavings is a mod in All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0, where it is version 1.1.1. Adds vanila styled paths and pavings! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Macaw's Paths and Pavings?

1 part

Macaw's Paths and Pavings adds vanilla-styled paths and pavings to build with. The first version brought wooden paths in all the wood variations and 6 pavings with 11 texture variations. Later updates added Running Bond paths, plus slab and full block versions, because they look good in builds too. It is part of the Macaw's series of decor mods.[1]

This pack ships version 1.1.1 of the mod, and it has been included since pack version 1.0 or earlier.[2]

Where the quest book puts it

The mod has its own quest, "Macaw's Paths and Pavings" quest, in the "Building Tips" chapter. You reach it through a chain: "Building Tips!" quest leads to "Decoration!" quest, then to "Decor Mods!" quest, then to "Macaw's Mods" quest, and the paths quest comes right after that one.[3]

"Macaw's Mods" quest introduces Macaw Sketch as a popular developer of decor mods, from windows to pathways to drawers. It shares its parent quest with the Cooking for Blockheads and Handcrafted quests, so those are its neighbours in the Decor Mods group.[3]

The quest describes the mod as adding tons of different carpet-like blocks, with full block and slab versions too. They are meant to be used as paths and look much nicer than the vanilla Path Block.[3]

The "Building Tips" chapter has 67 quests, and about half of them are not shown in the material I have. Anything that comes after the paths quest is told in the quest book itself.[3]

How do you get started with Macaw's Paths and Pavings?

3 parts

This mod is all about nicer-looking paths and pavings. In the pack's quest book it sits in the Building Tips chapter: "Macaw's Paths and Pavings" quest comes right after "Macaw's Mods" quest, which in turn follows "Decor Mods!" quest. The quest text says the mod adds tons of carpet-like blocks, plus full block and slab versions. They work as paths and look much nicer than the vanilla Path Block.[3]

Step 1: Wooden paths

Start with the wooden paths, because they come straight from the crafting grid. A wooden path is a shapeless crafting recipe: you put in one slab of a wood type and get 3 paths back.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mcwpaths:oak_planks_path

In the pack's recipes, one matching slab makes 3 paths for each wood type listed.

The same pattern covers other woods in the pack, for example Spruce Planks Path, Cherry Planks Path, Bamboo Planks Path and the Nether woods like Crimson Planks Path and Warped Planks Path. Each one uses the slab of its own wood.[4]

Step 2: Stone pavings

The stone pavings are made by stonecutting rather than in the crafting grid. Andesite, blackstone and bricks are the base blocks shown in the recipe dump. One andesite gives you 4 of a paving pattern such as Andesite Basket Weave Paving.[4]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: mcwpaths:andesite_basket_weave_paving

Stonecutting one andesite gives 4 Andesite Basket Weave Paving.

The path versions of the stone patterns also give 4 per block. Here is the flagstone one, Andesite Flagstone Path.[4]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: mcwpaths:andesite_flagstone_path

Stonecutting one andesite gives 4 Andesite Flagstone Path.

Step 3: Full blocks, slabs and stairs

Some patterns come as full blocks with matching slabs and stairs, which is handy for floors and steps. Take the running bond: one andesite makes one Andesite Running Bond or one Andesite Running Bond Stairs. It also makes 2 Andesite Running Bond Slab or 4 Andesite Running Bond Path. Crystal floor, flagstone and windmill weave use the same counts for andesite.[4]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: mcwpaths:andesite_running_bond_slab

Stonecutting one andesite gives 2 Andesite Running Bond Slab.

Tip: The pack has 304 stonecutting recipes that make items from this mod, using 21 different base ingredients. Blackstone and bricks follow the same stonecutting idea as andesite, for example Brick Diamond Paving.[4]

How does Macaw's Paths and Pavings work?

3 parts

This mod has no machines, power, fluids or item handling that the sources describe. Everything the pack data shows for it is crafting: you turn materials into decorative paths, pavings, slabs, stairs and blocks. So the core mechanic is knowing which crafting method makes what.[4]

Wooden paths: shapeless crafting

Each wooden path is a shapeless crafting recipe, so ingredient placement in the grid doesn't matter. One craft gives you 3 paths. The pack lists this for Acacia, Bamboo, Birch, Cherry, Crimson, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, Oak, Spruce and Warped, for example Oak Planks Path and Warped Planks Path.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mcwpaths:oak_planks_path

The other wood types follow the same shapeless pattern and also give 3 paths per craft.

Stone pavings: the stonecutter

The stone-style blocks are made in a stonecutter, not on a crafting table. The pack data counts 304 stonecutting recipes that make items from this mod, each with a different result, using 21 different ingredients. These are listed as mod recipes in the pack data.[4]

The recipes written out in the pack data use andesite as the base. The yield depends on the shape you want:[4]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: mcwpaths:andesite_flagstone_path

A path from the stonecutter gives 4 at once.

Stonecutting

Recipe id: mcwpaths:andesite_flagstone_slab

Slabs give 2 per cut.

Other materials and patterns

Andesite is only one material. The mod's language file also names the same patterns in blackstone, brick, cobbled deepslate, cobblestone, dark prismarine and deepslate. It also includes patterns such as Windmill Weave and Strewn Rocky Path. The sources I was given only spell out the andesite and wooden recipes, so check the recipe viewer in game for the rest.[4][5]

The mod's project page describes the first release as wooden paths plus 6 pavings in 11 texture variations, with Running Bond paths, slabs and blocks added later in 1.0.3.[1]

Tip: Since every stone variant comes from the stonecutter, keep one near your build site and cut the exact shape you need instead of crafting by hand.[4]

How do you progress through Macaw's Paths and Pavings?

3 parts

In this pack, Macaw's Paths and Pavings is split by material rather than by power level. The quest book places it in the Building Tips chapter, and the recipes divide into wooden paths and stonecutter pavings. Here is where it sits in the quest book, then how each kind is crafted.[3][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

Macaw's Paths and Pavings ("Macaw's Paths and Pavings" quest) is a quest in the Building Tips chapter. The chain leading to it runs from "Building Tips!" quest to "Decoration!" quest, then "Decor Mods!" quest, then "Macaw's Mods" quest. The quest describes the mod as adding tons of carpet-like blocks, plus full block and slab versions, that work as paths and look nicer than the vanilla Path Block.[3]

It shares its parent with four other Macaw quests: "Macaw's Doors" quest, "Macaw's Roofs" quest, "Macaw's Fences and Walls" quest and "Macaw's Trapdoors" quest. The Paths and Pavings quest is also one of the quests that "Completed Macaw" quest waits on, along with Macaw's Doors, Fences and Walls, Roofs, Trapdoors, Lights and Lamps, Furniture and Windows.[3]

Tier 1: wooden paths

The wooden paths use ordinary shapeless crafting, with one path for each wood type. This covers Oak Planks Path, Spruce Planks Path, Birch Planks Path, Jungle Planks Path, Acacia Planks Path, Dark Oak Planks Path, Mangrove Planks Path, Cherry Planks Path, Bamboo Planks Path, Crimson Planks Path and Warped Planks Path.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: mcwpaths:oak_planks_path

The other wooden paths follow the same pattern with their own slab.

Tier 2: stonecutter pavings

Everything stone-style is made at a stonecutter from a single base block. The recipe dump counts 304 stonecutting recipes for this mod, each with a different result, and 21 different ingredients. Only 76 of those recipes are written out in the dump, so the full ingredient list is not confirmed here. The base blocks shown are andesite, blackstone, bricks and cobbled deepslate.[4]

Each base block gets the same kind of patterns, and the yield depends on the shape. Paving and path pieces give 4 per block, slabs give 2, and the full blocks and stairs give a single piece. For example, Andesite Flagstone Path and Andesite Basket Weave Paving each give 4 from one andesite.[4]

Stonecutting

Recipe id: mcwpaths:andesite_flagstone_path

Paths from the stonecutter give 4 per block.

Stonecutting

Recipe id: mcwpaths:andesite_flagstone_slab

Slabs give 2 per block.

Crystal Floor, Flagstone, Running Bond and Windmill Weave each come as a block, a path, a slab and stairs. Brick has its own set, for example Brick Windmill Weave Stairs. For cobbled deepslate, the dump shows the Crystal Floor family plus the Basket Weave, Clover and Diamond pavings.[4]

Tip: Every recipe written out in the dump is marked as a mod recipe, so none of them is shown as changed by the pack. All the stone-style pieces come from the stonecutter, so one base block can become many different path and paving variants.[4]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Macaw's Paths and Pavings?

4 parts

Macaw's Paths and Pavings shows up in one chapter of the quest book: Building Tips. It has its own quest there, tucked into a small branch of Macaw mods, so it's easy to find once you know the route.[3]

The route to the quest

  1. Start with "Building Tips!" quest, the opening quest of the chapter. It's a tips chapter about building, and it's an item quest.[3]
  2. Next is "Decoration!" quest, which comes after the opening quest. It's about how many mods add decoration and items you can decorate with.[3]
  3. After that comes "Decor Mods!" quest, which points you at mods the author found perfect for decorating your house or base.[3]
  4. Then "Macaw's Mods" quest introduces Macaw Sketch, a mod developer known for decor mods, and asks if you can craft it all.[3]
  5. Finally, "Macaw's Paths and Pavings" quest is the quest for this mod. It's an item task and it comes right after the Macaw's Mods quest.[3]

What the Paths and Pavings quest tells you

The quest describes the mod as adding tons of different carpet-like blocks, plus full block and slab versions. They're meant to be used as paths, and the quest says they look much nicer than the Minecraft Path Block.[3]

The rest of the Macaw branch

Paths and Pavings isn't alone under Macaw's Mods. "Macaw's Doors" quest, "Macaw's Roofs" quest, "Macaw's Fences and Walls" quest and "Macaw's Trapdoors" quest all come after the same quest, so you can do them in any order alongside it.[3]

Two other Macaw quests sit elsewhere in the chapter. "Macaw's Furniture" quest also follows Decor Mods!, while "Macaw's Lights and Lamps" quest and "Macaw's Windows" quest sit in the lighting and glass branches of the chapter instead.[3]

Wrapping it up

"Completed Macaw" quest is the finish line. It's a checkmark quest that comes after the Doors, Fences and Walls, Roofs, Paths and Pavings, Trapdoors, Lights and Lamps, Furniture and Windows quests. The quest text says you got one of everything from Macaw's Mods, and that you've earned your own Macaw.[3]

Tip: Since Paths and Pavings needs nothing but the Macaw's Mods quest before it, you can knock it out early and save the other Macaw quests for when you want their blocks.[3]

What changed in Macaw's Paths and Pavings between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Macaw's Paths and Pavings 1.1.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. So everything below from 1.1.0 and 1.1.1 is already part of what you're playing with.[2]

1.1.1

This is the version in the pack, and it mostly polishes Engraving and Flattening.[2][6]

  • Pickaxes and shovels now use durability when you Engrave or Flatten.[6]
  • Flattening and Engraving now work with modded shovels and pickaxes. Before this, Engrave failed with modded pickaxes and Flatten failed with modded shovels.[6]
  • Fixed: paths getting removed by water.[6]
  • Fixed: most Running Bond paths, slabs and blocks showing the wrong color on maps.[6]

1.1.0

This was the bigger content update. It added stairs for the path blocks, plus new Podzol, Dirt, Gravel, Sand and Red Sand block paths. Those can be Flattened: right click them with any shovel and they become 1px smaller, which gives the path a sunken look.[7]

  • Stone path blocks can now be Engraved. Right click them with any pickaxe and they become 1px smaller.[7]
  • Blocks that can be Engraved or Flattened now have a tooltip saying so.[7]
  • Wooden paths are now grouped in the crafting GUI.[7]
  • The creative tab icon changed to Andesite Honeycomb Paving.[7]
  • Added custom tags: wooden_paths, stone_paths, path_slabs, stone_pavings and stone_engraved_blocks.[7]
  • Fuel efficiency for planks paths was rebalanced, so they now smelt only 0.25 item instead of 7.5.[7]
  • Fixed: wooden paths crashing the game while using Carpets Core.[7]
  • Translations: updated es_cl and ru_ru, and added tr_tr and fr_fr.[7]
