What is Handcrafted?

1 part

Handcrafted is a furniture and decoration mod from the creators of Chipped. Its project page promises over 250 furniture pieces, including chairs, tables, benches and desks, with looks that range from fantasy, steampunk and medieval to plain vanilla. This pack includes version 4.0.3 for NeoForge 1.21.1.[1][2]

The pack's quest book sums it up in its own words: Handcrafted covers everything decoration related. You get beds and nightstands for the bedroom, chairs and tables for the living room, and an oven, plates and bowls for the kitchen. There are even statues just for showing off.[3]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest "Handcrafted" quest is in the "Building Tips" chapter, which has 67 quests. The chapter starts with "Building Tips!" quest, and "Decoration!" quest branches off from it. That quest leads on to "Decor Mods!" quest, the group of mods the quest book recommends for decorating your house or base.[3]

Handcrafted comes straight after "Decor Mods!" quest. Two other quests also come after that same quest: "Cooking for Blockheads" quest and "Macaw's Mods" quest. So you can treat the three as neighbours in the decor group.[3]

Only part of the chapter's quest list was available when this section was written, so check the quest book itself for anything that follows the Handcrafted quest.[3]

How do you get started with Handcrafted?

4 parts

Handcrafted is the furniture and decoration mod in this pack. Its project page says it has over 250 furniture pieces. In the quest book, "Handcrafted" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, right after "Decor Mods!" quest, which itself comes after "Decoration!" quest. The quest text mentions beds and nightstands for bedrooms, chairs and tables for the living room, and plates and bowls for the kitchen.[1][3]

Start with the pack's own recipes

The pack adds its own recipes for the Hammer and the Wood Plate. They are not plain mod defaults, so go by the recipes below.[4]

Once you have a Wood Plate, the Wood Crockery Combo has its own recipe. Terracotta crockery works in a similar way, and a terracotta combo can then be dyed into pieces like the Blue Crockery Combo.[4]

Watch for recipes the pack changed

Watch out: Several Handcrafted recipes are marked as changed by the pack, so they can differ from the mod's defaults. Check the recipe shown here before you gather materials.[4]

How does Handcrafted work?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Handcrafted is a furniture and decoration mod: its project page promises over 250 furniture pieces, including chairs, tables, benches and desks. Nothing in the sources mentions machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or automation, so this section covers the part that does have depth: using items on furniture to customize it.[1][6]

Changing how furniture looks

Most of the interaction comes from right-clicking blocks you have already placed. The in-game tooltips describe these interactions, and you can hold SHIFT on a tooltip for more information.[6]

  • Hammer: its tooltip says it changes the look of blocks. Right-click with it to change a block's look, Shift-right-click to change the look in the other way the tooltip lists, or right-click to change a block's shape.[6]
  • Cushions: right-click with a cushion to change a block's look.[6]
  • Sheets: right-click with a sheet to change a block's look.[6]
  • Beds: right-click with a cushion to change the bed's pillow color, or with a sheet to change the bedsheets. The Acacia Fancy Bed and Bamboo Fancy Bed are the fancy beds in the recipe list.[6][7]
  • Counters: right-click with wood or stone to change the counter surface. The Acacia Counter and Bamboo Counter are counters in this pack.[6][7]

The tooltips don't say which blocks respond to each hammer mode, so try it on a piece of furniture and see what changes.[6]

Placing items on furniture

Some items carry a tooltip saying they can be placed on furniture. There is also a plate-style crockery item: right-click it with any item to place that item on the plate.[6]

Chest-based furniture recipes

Pieces such as the Acacia Drawer, Acacia Shelf, Acacia Nightstand and Acacia Desk are crafted with an ingredient from the chests tag of the mod. The sources don't describe how these pieces behave once placed.[7]

Pack-specific change: the cupboards

The recipe list marks the Acacia Cupboard and Bamboo Cupboard recipes as changed by the pack, so don't rely on the mod's default recipe. Here is the in-pack recipe for the Acacia Cupboard.[7]

How do you progress through Handcrafted?

4 parts

Handcrafted is a decoration mod, and in this pack's quest book it gets a single quest. The recipes fall into a few groups. Some are untouched mod recipes. Others were changed or added by the pack, and those are the ones worth knowing before you start crafting.[3][4]

Where the quest book puts it

The "Handcrafted" quest quest sits in the Building Tips chapter. The chain runs "Building Tips!" quest, then "Decoration!" quest, then "Decor Mods!" quest, and Handcrafted comes after that. It shares that spot with "Cooking for Blockheads" quest, "Macaw's Mods" quest, "Macaw's Furniture" quest and "Farmer's Delight" quest.[3]

The quest text sells it as decoration for every room: beds and nightstands for the bedroom, chairs and tables for the living room, an oven, plates and bowls for the kitchen, and even statues for showing off.[3]

Group 1: plain wood, stone and terracotta

Most of the furniture uses the mod's own recipes. Acacia Bench, Acacia Chair and Acacia Table all work this way, and bamboo has matching versions such as Bamboo Bench. Corner and pillar trims also come in stone styles such as Andesite Corner Trim.[4]

Couches such as Acacia Couch and fancy beds such as Acacia Fancy Bed use the mod's cushion and sheet item groups as ingredients.[4]

Group 2: crockery and pots

Crockery starts from terracotta pieces. A Terracotta Cup and a Terracotta Plate combine into a Terracotta Crockery Combo. Dyeing that combo gives colored versions such as Blue Crockery Combo.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: handcrafted:terracotta_crockery_combo

The wood version uses the Wood Plate, and the pack added its own recipe for that plate. The pots follow the same pattern: terracotta pots become glazed pots such as Blue Glazed Medium Pot with the mod's default recipes.[4]

The pack also changed several mod recipes. The following are marked as changed by the pack in the recipe dump, so don't assume the mod's defaults for them:[4]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Handcrafted?

1 part

Handcrafted has one quest in the pack, and it sits in the Building Tips chapter: "Handcrafted" quest. It is an item task, and the quest text describes the mod as covering everything decoration related. That includes beds and nightstands for bedrooms, chairs and tables for a living room, an oven, plates and bowls for a kitchen, and even statues.[3]

The order to follow

  1. Start with "Building Tips!" quest, the opening quest of the Building Tips chapter, which promises tips for building.[3]
  2. Next comes "Decoration!" quest, which comes right after the opening quest. It points out that modded Minecraft has far more decoration than just stairs.[3]
  3. Then "Decor Mods!" quest, which follows Decoration! and is about mods the author found perfect for decorating a house or base.[3]
  4. Finally "Handcrafted" quest, which follows Decor Mods!.[3]

Handcrafted is not alone after Decor Mods!. "Cooking for Blockheads" quest, "Macaw's Mods" quest, "Macaw's Furniture" quest and "Farmer's Delight" quest also come right after it, so you can do them in any order alongside Handcrafted. Macaw's Mods then leads on to its own set of door, roof, fence, path and trapdoor quests.[3]

Unverified The quest book data I was given only says the Handcrafted quest is an item task. It does not list which specific item or items you need to hand in, so check the quest in-game.

What changed in Handcrafted between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Handcrafted 4.0.3. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier, so you've had the furniture available from the start.[2]

Handcrafted 4.0.3

This is the version you're running in 2.0.4. The mod's own changelog lists these changes:[2][8]

  • Fixed an oven crash (credit to sshcrack).[8]
  • Fixed the table UV (credit to Khazoda).[8]
  • Fixed chair dismounting (credit to jshipley).[8]
  • Improved furniture interactions (credit to jshipley).[8]
  • Added a Turkish localization (credit to RuyaSavascisi).[8]

In practice, if you're building a kitchen, the oven crash fix is the one you'll care about most. The chair fix helps when you're getting up from a seat.[8]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Handcrafted were available, so it is unverified whether the pack changed anything about this mod between releases. Older Handcrafted versions are also not covered here.
