What is Hostile Neural Networks?

2 parts

Hostile Neural Networks lets you turn mob kills into mob loot. You train a Data Model on a mob, run simulations with it, and feed the resulting predictions into a machine that hands you that mob's drops. It's based on Deep Mob Learning, and this pack ships version 6.3.0.[1][2]

It's a great fit if you want mob drops without standing at a farm. The Loot Fabricator remembers your item choice, so the whole thing can be automated.[1][3]

How the loop works

  1. Make a Model Framework and right click the mob you want. It turns into that mob's Data Model.[3]
  2. Put the model in a Deep Learner and kill that mob. The Learner holds 4 models and collects data as long as it's anywhere in your inventory.[3]
  3. Models start as Faulty and must reach Basic before you can simulate with them.[1][3]
  4. Run simulations in the Simulation Chamber. It needs power and a Prediction Matrix, and the power cost depends on the model.[1][3]
  5. Process Mob Predictions in the Loot Fabricator and pick which drop you want.[1][3]

Every simulation produces a generalized prediction, and the higher your model's tier, the better your chance of also getting a Mob Prediction. Accuracy tops out at 99.5% at Self Aware. The generalized predictions come in Overworld, Nether and End flavors, such as Generalized Overworld Prediction, Generalized Nether Prediction and Generalized Ender Prediction, and they can be used in various crafting recipes.[1][3]

For loot, the quest book gives examples: Ender Dragons for Dragon Eggs, Zombies for Iron, and Withers for Nether Stars.[3]

Where it sits in the quests

The pack has a dedicated Hostile Neural Networks quest chapter. "Learning Mobs" quest and "Modeling Mobs" quest come first, then "Simulating Deaths" quest. After that, "Creating Loot" quest leads into a long run of quests for individual Mob Predictions. "Leveling Up Data Models" quest covers raising a model's tier.[3]

Unverified The sources don't show whether this mod is on the ATM Star path, or whether the pack changes any of its recipes or values. Check the in-game quests for those details.

How do you get started with Hostile Neural Networks?

6 parts

Hostile Neural Networks turns mob kills into mob drops. You train a Data Model on a mob, simulate that mob in a machine, then turn the result into loot. The order below matches the quest chapter, so you can follow it step by step.[1][3]

First, make a Deep Learner

Start with the Deep Learner ("Learning Mobs" quest). Right-click it to open a HUD where you store Data Models. Each Learner holds 4 models, and it collects data for them as long as it's anywhere in your inventory. If you carry several Learners, kills count for every model in all of them.[3]

Level the model to Basic

A new Data Model starts at the first tier, Faulty, and you need to raise it to at least Basic before you can simulate it ("Leveling Up Data Models" quest). The Deep Learner HUD and the model's tooltip both show how many kills you still need.[1][3]

Build the Simulation Chamber

The Simulation Chamber is the main machine ("Simulating Deaths" quest). It needs power, and the amount depends on the model inside, which you can read in the model's tooltip. It also needs at least one Prediction Matrix, and the simulation result is written onto that Matrix. Craft both now.[3]

Every simulation produces a Generalized Prediction, and which kind depends on where the mob comes from. A successful run also gives you a Mob Prediction for that model. The higher the model's tier, the better the success rate.[1][3]

Build the Loot Fabricator

The Loot Fabricator ("Creating Loot" quest) is where you get the loot. Give it power and a successful Mob Prediction, then choose which item you want from that mob's model. It remembers your choice, so you can automate it. The quest gives these examples: Ender Dragons for Dragon Eggs, Zombies for Iron, and Withers for Nether Stars.[3]

Using Generalized Predictions

Generalized Predictions are used in various crafting recipes. The chapter has quests for Generalized Overworld Prediction, Generalized Nether Prediction and Generalized Ender Prediction, which it describes as making Overworld, Nether and End materials. The pack also has two recipes for stepping a prediction up to the next dimension, shown below.[3][4]

How does Hostile Neural Networks work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Hostile Neural Networks lets you farm mob drops without farming mobs. You train data models, run simulations with them to produce mob predictions, and then turn those predictions into real loot. Every step of that chain has its own item or machine, so let's walk through it in order.[1]

Data Models: the core of the mod

Everything revolves around the Data Model, an item that holds information about one entity and lets you generate that entity's drops. To get one, you first craft a Model Framework and then use it on the mob you want to build a model of.[1]

Model FrameworkMod recipe

The mod's tooltip text includes a line telling you to click on an entity to attune a model, plus a message saying that model attunement is disabled, so watch the tooltip when you try this.[6]

Which mobs have models is data-driven. Custom Data Models can be added through a datapack, with each model defined as a single file in a data_models subfolder.[1]

Training with the Deep Learner

A fresh model starts in the Faulty state and can't be simulated yet. To level it up, put it in a Deep Learner. The Deep Learner holds a few data models at once, and the kills you get start training them. You need to get each model up to Basic this way before the next machine will accept it.[1]

Running simulations in the Simulation Chamber

Once a model is Basic or higher, you can load it into a Simulation Chamber to run simulations. The Simulation Chamber is the second way to train a model, so your models keep improving while they work.[1]

Each simulation needs energy and a catalyst item. The energy cost depends on the model type. The catalyst is usually a Prediction Matrix, so you'll want a steady supply of those.[1]

Every simulation produces a generalized prediction. It may also produce a Mob Prediction, depending on the model's accuracy. Higher model tiers mean higher accuracy, up to 99.5% at the Self Aware tier. Leveling your models is what makes a setup truly efficient.[1]

Tip: Don't stop training at Basic. A higher-tier model turns more of its simulations into Mob Predictions, which is where the actual loot comes from.[1]

Generalized predictions

The generalized predictions come in three kinds: Generalized Overworld Prediction, Generalized Nether Prediction and Generalized Ender Prediction. In this pack you can craft them up the chain, turning Overworld into Nether and Nether into Ender.[7]

Turning predictions into loot

Mob Predictions become real drops in the Loot Fabricator, a powered device. The possible outputs come from a pre-defined list of items for each model type, and you pick a target for each type. The fabricator remembers your choice per type, so you can feed several kinds of predictions into a single fabricator.[1]

What the tooltips tell you

The mod has several info lines that are useful for planning:[6]

  • A prompt to hold a key for more info, so check the extended tooltip.[6]
  • Generates Experience, followed by a value.[6]
  • Loot Table Copies, followed by a value.[6]
  • No Base Drop Produced.[6]

Unverified The sources don't give exact energy costs, how much power the Loot Fabricator uses, the kill or simulation counts needed for each tier, the names of the tiers between Basic and Self Aware, or which sides of the machines accept items and energy for automation. Check these in-game before you design an automated setup.

How do you progress through Hostile Neural Networks?

6 parts

Hostile Neural Networks has a short, clear progression path, and the pack's quest chapter walks you through it in order. You learn mobs, turn them into Data Models, level those models up, simulate the mobs, then turn the results into loot. Here is each step.[3]

Step 1: Learning and modeling

Start with the Deep Learner ("Learning Mobs" quest). Right-click it to open its HUD and store Data Models. One Learner holds 4 Data Models, and it collects data as long as it is anywhere in your inventory. You can carry several Learners, and kills count for every model inside all of them.[3]

Step 2: Leveling up Data Models

"Leveling Up Data Models" quest explains that a new Data Model starts at the first tier, Faulty. You need to get it to at least Basic before you can run simulations on it. The Deep Learner HUD and the model's tooltip both show how many kills the next level needs.[3]

Step 3: Simulating deaths

"Simulating Deaths" quest unlocks the main machine, the Simulation Chamber. It needs power, and the amount depends on the Data Model inside, which you can read in the model's tooltip. It also needs at least one Prediction Matrix, and the simulation result is written onto that Matrix.[3]

Every simulation produces some kind of Generalized Prediction, depending on where the mob comes from. If the simulation succeeds, you also get a Mob Prediction for that model. A higher-tier Data Model gives a higher success rate, so keep leveling your models.[3]

Generalized Predictions

The chapter has one quest each for the three Generalized Predictions. Generalized Overworld Prediction makes various Overworld materials, Generalized Nether Prediction makes various Nether materials, and Generalized Ender Prediction makes various End materials. All three unlock after the Simulating Deaths quest.[3]

The pack also has recipes that convert one Generalized Prediction into the next dimension's. You can go from Overworld to Nether, and from Nether to End.[4]

Step 4: Creating loot

"Creating Loot" quest gives you the Loot Fabricator. Feed it power and a successful Mob Prediction, then pick which item you want from that mob's Data Model. It remembers your choice, so you can automate it. The quest's examples are Dragon Eggs from Ender Dragons, Iron from Zombies and Nether Stars from Withers.[3]

After the Loot Fabricator quest, the chapter ends in a long run of untitled quests. Each one asks for a Prediction, so they work as a checklist of Mob Predictions to collect.[3]

Fabrication Directive

The pack also has a recipe for the Fabrication Directive, and none of the chapter's quests ask for it.[3][4]

Unverified The sources only name two Data Model tiers, Faulty and Basic. The names of any higher tiers, their kill requirements, the exact power costs and success rates, and what the Fabrication Directive does are not confirmed here, so check a model's tooltip in game.

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Hostile Neural Networks?

3 parts

Hostile Neural Networks has one quest chapter in the pack, also called Hostile Neural Networks. It opens with a welcome quest and then walks you through the whole mod: collecting data on mobs, running simulations, and turning the results into loot.[3]

The early quests

  1. "Learning Mobs" quest asks you to get the Deep Learner. Right click it to open a HUD and store Data Models. It holds 4 Data Models and collects kill data while it's anywhere in your inventory.[3]
  2. "Modeling Mobs" quest asks for a Model Framework. Right click a mob with it and it turns into that mob's Data Model. Put that model in a Deep Learner and kill that mob to gather data. This quest and the previous one both unlock after the welcome quest, so you can do them in either order.[3]
  3. "Leveling Up Data Models" quest asks for a Data Model. Models start at the Faulty tier, and you need to reach at least Basic before you can simulate with them. The HUD and the model's tooltip show how many kills the next level needs. It unlocks once you've done the two quests above.[3]
  4. "Simulating Deaths" quest asks for the Simulation Chamber and a Prediction Matrix. The chamber needs power, and the amount depends on the Data Model inside, which you can read in the model's tooltip. It also needs at least one matrix, and the result is written onto that matrix. This quest unlocks after the Learning Mobs and Modeling Mobs quests.[3]

After Simulating Deaths

Four quests unlock once you finish Simulating Deaths. Three of them ask for a Generalized Prediction, one for each origin: a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks" for Generalized Overworld Prediction, a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks" for Generalized Nether Prediction, and a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks" for Generalized Ender Prediction. Each is described as making various materials from its dimension. Which one you get depends on the origin of the mob in the Data Model.[3]

The fourth is "Creating Loot" quest, which asks for the Loot Fabricator. Feed it power and a successful Mob Prediction, then pick which item you want from that mob's Data Model. The machine remembers your choice, so you can automate it. The quest's own examples are Ender Dragons for Dragon Eggs, Zombies for Iron and Withers for Nether Stars.[3]

The Mob Prediction quests

Creating Loot unlocks a long run of untitled quests at the end of the chapter, such as a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks" and a quest in "Hostile Neural Networks". Each one asks for a Prediction item. They have no text of their own, so this is a good place to just work through your Data Models and hand in each mob's prediction as you get it.[3]

Unverified The quest data doesn't say which mob each of these Mob Prediction quests is for, and it doesn't list any rewards for the chapter, so check the in-game quest book for those details.
