FramedBlocks is a mod in All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0, where it is version 10.6.2. Fancy building blocks (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is FramedBlocks?

3 parts

FramedBlocks adds building blocks in lots of different shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. You build the shape you want, then give it the look you want.[1]

This pack (All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4) includes FramedBlocks 10.6.2. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[2]

What you can build with it

The shape list is huge. It includes the Framed Cube, Slope, Stairs, Slab, Panel, Wall, Fence, Door, Trapdoor, Ladder, Chest and Collapsible Block, plus many corner, double and divided variants. Some, like the Framed Slope, can also be placed vertically.[1]

The basics

  • Right click a Framed Block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
  • Right click it with Glowstone Dust to make it produce light.[1]
  • Right click it with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]

Where the quest book mentions it

In the quest text I can see, FramedBlocks has no chapter of its own, and none of the shown Modular Routers quests ask for one of its items. The one mention is in the a quest in "Modular Routers" quest, which comes after "Upgrades" quest in the Modular Routers chapter. It says that upgrade makes a router similar to a Framed Block, and that you sneak right click a block to change the router's appearance.[3]

That chapter starts with "Modular Routers" quest. 21 of its 55 quests are not shown in the text I have, so the rest is in the quest book.[3]

How do you get started with FramedBlocks?

4 parts

Framed Blocks gives you mock blocks that you fill in with another block, as long as that block isn't a block entity (think Crafting Table or Furnace). The mod adds a huge range of shapes, from slabs and slopes to panels and stairs. The pack's quest book calls it the most important building mod, and it has its own quest, "Framed Blocks" quest, in the Building Tips chapter, right after the Changing Blocks quest.[1][4]

Step 1: make Framed Cubes

Start with Framed Cube. It is the base of the whole mod, and this one recipe makes 4 cubes at a time.[5]

Step 2: turn cubes into other pieces

Lots of the other recipes take a Framed Cube as their main ingredient, so make a stack before anything else. Good first crafts:[5]

Step 3: use the framing saw recipes

Many pieces also have a second recipe in the framing saw group, so you can often make a shape another way. For example, the bouncy cube has one of these.[5]

Frame (framedblocks)

  • 4× any slime ball

Recipe id: framedblocks:framing_saw/framed_bouncy_cube

The pack's recipe dump counts 161 recipes of this frame type, so it is worth checking the saw whenever you want a new shape.[5]

Step 4: switch shapes with a wrench

Some shapes can be swapped for a related shape with a wrench, with no new materials. For example, Framed Centered Slab and Framed Centered Panel convert into each other. The recipe dump counts 44 recipes like this.[5]

Rotate Shape (framedblocks)

Watch out: The pack changes the recipe for Framed Iron Trapdoor compared with the mod's own. Use the recipe below, not one you remember from another pack.[5]

The Building Tips chapter has more quests that are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[4]

How does FramedBlocks work?

4 parts

FramedBlocks has no machines, power, fluids or multiblocks. It is a building mod, and the whole system comes down to one idea: every Framed Block is a shape that can copy the look of another block. The sources here describe only that camo system, the tools around it and how the shapes are crafted. They say nothing about storage or automation behaviour, for example on the Framed Chest or Framed Hopper.[1][6]

Applying and removing camo

  • Right click a Framed Block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
  • Right click it with a fluid container to make it look like the fluid inside. Right click with an empty fluid container to remove a fluid camo.[1]
  • Right click it with Glowstone Dust to make it produce light.[1]
  • Right click it with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]

Tools that change a placed block

The Framed Wrench rotates a Framed Block, and so does any other item in the wrench tag. On most blocks the result depends on which face you click. The Framed Screwdriver cycles through different states of the camo block.[1]

Prism-type blocks (Framed Prism, Inner Prism and Double Prism Corners) turn on a texture offset automatically, based on where you place them. This stops the corners from clashing when you build a large surface. If you don't want it, left click the block with the Framed Hammer to toggle the offset.[1]

The Framed Blueprint copies a Framed Block, including its camo and glowing state. It does not copy the rotation of the block itself. That makes it handy for repeating a look across a big build.[1]

How the shapes are made

Almost everything starts at the Framed Cube. In this pack one craft makes 4 of them.[5]

From there the recipes split into three kinds. The counts below come from the pack's recipe dump.[5]

  • Crafting table recipes, shaped and shapeless, turn one Framed Block into another. There are 136 shaped ones. The Framed Button is a shapeless craft from a single Framed Cube.[5]
  • Recipes of the type framedblocks:frame, filed under framing_saw in their ids. There are 161 of them, each with a different result. They include the Framed Activator Rail Slope and the Framed Fancy Activator Rail Slope.[5]
  • 44 rotate_shape recipes swap a block for its counterpart using a wrench. For example, the Framed Centered Panel becomes a Framed Centered Slab and back again. Any item in the wrench tag works, and the wrench is not used up by the recipe.[5]

How do you progress through FramedBlocks?

7 parts

In this pack, Framed Blocks progression is a chain of crafting steps that start from one base block. The quest book gives the mod a single quest, placed in the Building Tips chapter.[4][5]

Where the quest book puts it

The "Framed Blocks" quest quest sits in the Building Tips chapter. The path runs from "Building Tips!" quest to "Tools!" quest, which leads to "Changing Blocks" quest, and Framed Blocks comes after that one. The other quests that follow Changing Blocks are "Chisel Reborn" quest, "Chipped" quest, "Camol" quest and "Rechiseled" quest.[4]

The quest calls Framed Blocks the single most important building mod. It also tells you what to expect: framed blocks can be filled in with any block that isn't a block entity, so a Crafting Table, a Furnace or an Enrichment Chamber won't work as the fill.[4]

Stage 1: the Framed Cube

Everything starts with the Framed Cube. Many of the mod's crafting recipes take it as an ingredient, including Framed Button, Framed Fence, Framed Bookshelf and Framed Bars.[5]

Stage 2: the collapsible blocks

The next step is the Framed Collapsible Copycat Block. It feeds the adjustable double copycat pieces, such as the Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Panel and the Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Slab. The plain Framed Collapsible Block does the same job for the Framed Adjustable Double Panel and Framed Adjustable Double Slab.[5]

Stage 3: rails

The rail family builds on the cube and on slopes. The fancy rails, such as the Framed Fancy Powered Rail, come out 6 at a time. The rail slopes, such as the Framed Powered Rail Slope, are shapeless crafts that start from a Framed Slope.[5]

Shapes without new materials

The pack has 44 shape-rotating recipes that turn one framed shape into its counterpart using a wrench. The Framed Centered Panel becomes a Framed Centered Slab this way, and the reverse recipe exists too.[5]

Rotate Shape (framedblocks)

There are also 161 recipes of the framedblocks:frame type, each with a different result. Their ids start with framing_saw/, and a few of them, like the ones for Framed Bars and Framed Button, list no item inputs in the recipe dump.[5]

Phantom Paste has two recipes: one makes 8 per craft and the other makes 16.[5]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use FramedBlocks?

2 parts

Framed Blocks has one quest of its own in the pack, and it sits in the Building Tips chapter. A second quest, in the Modular Routers chapter, only mentions Framed Blocks as a comparison.[3][4]

Building Tips chapter

The chapter starts with "Building Tips!" quest. From there you go to "Tools!" quest, which asks for a stick and talks about the tools you need for building. Next comes "Changing Blocks" quest, which introduces mods that turn blocks you already have into different shapes, designs or entirely new blocks.[4]

"Framed Blocks" quest unlocks right after Changing Blocks. The quest book calls it the single most important building mod. It explains that Framed Blocks are mock blocks you can fill with any block that isn't a block entity, such as a crafting table, a furnace or an enrichment chamber. The quest lists vertical slabs, slopes and quarter blocks as example shapes.[4]

The same Changing Blocks quest also leads to "Chisel Reborn" quest, "Chipped" quest, "Rechiseled" quest and "Camol" quest. These are the pack's other ways of changing or camouflaging blocks, so you can do them in any order alongside Framed Blocks.[4]

Unverified The Framed Blocks quest is an item task, but the quest data does not show which specific item it checks for.

Modular Routers chapter

a quest in "Modular Routers" comes after "Upgrades" quest, which itself follows "Modular Routers" quest. It asks for Camouflage Upgrade and says the upgrade makes a router work like a Framed Block: sneak right click a block to change the router's appearance to it.[3]

What changed in FramedBlocks between versions?

3 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships FramedBlocks 10.6.2, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

10.5.0 to 10.5.3: new blocks and lots of fixes

  • 10.5.3 fixes a crash with horizontally rotated Compound Slope Panels and adds a Brazilian Portuguese translation.[7]
  • 10.5.2 adds rotation support to the Collapsible Block and Collapsible Copycat Block, plus a Russian translation.[8]
  • 10.5.2 also fixes duplication bugs: the camo application recipe duping when camo consumption is disabled, and the shape rotation recipe duplicating stackable wrenches.[8]
  • 10.5.2 fixes Double Slabs and Panels only consuming one slab or panel when placed by Create schematics, and a Layered Cube consuming multiple camos when made from an item with a pre-applied camo.[8]
  • 10.5.2 fixes several connected textures problems (Framed Stairs and double blocks), a crash with thick lattice next to certain wall-tagged blocks, and missing slope faces on the Compound Slope Panel when yslope=true.[8]
  • 10.5.1 fixes a Framed Chest reappearing when broken by an Ars Nouveau Touch>Break>Extract spell while crouching.[9]
  • 10.5.0 adds the Framed Lightning Rod, Framed Pillar Socket, Framed Split Pillar Socket and Framed Path.[10]
  • 10.5.0 also adds a global overlay display mode config, a solution hint on the oversized result error tooltip in the Framing Saw, and a fix for a crash when applying certain fluids as camos.[10]

10.4.0: more shapes

  • New blocks: Framed Hopper, Framed Elevated Pyramid Slab, Framed Stacked Pyramid Slab, Framed (Vertical) Sloped Double Stairs, Framed (Vertical) Sliced Sloped Stairs and Framed Layered Cube.[11]
  • Pyramids now connect to Posts, (Half) Pillars, Walls and Fences.[11]
  • The mini cube can be placed on the underside of blocks, and there is a new option to rotate the camo texture when opening a Framed Trapdoor.[11]
  • Fixes a crash with Additional Placements.[11]

10.3.2: camo and wrench handling

  • Camos read from network packets are now validated, which prevents further errors with certain invalid camos.[12]
  • Redstone lamps can be toggled when applied as a camo.[12]
  • Wrenches from other mods work in shape rotation recipes without being consumed.[12]
  • Ammendments hanging pot support is re-enabled.[12]

Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, and the mod changelogs available stop at 10.5.3, so what changed between 10.5.3 and the 10.6.2 version in the pack is not shown.
