What is Cooking for Blockheads?
1 part
Cooking for Blockheads adds kitchen furniture and cooking books to the pack. You get version 21.1.16 for NeoForge on Minecraft 1.21.1, and it has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[1][2]
Where the quest book puts it
The mod has its own run of quests in the food_and_farming chapter. It starts with a quest in "?" for Cooking for Blockheads I. After it comes a quest in "?" for Cooking for Blockheads II, then a quest in "?" for the Cooking Table.[2]
Once the Cooking Table quest is done, the chapter branches. Each of these quests asks you to hand in a kitchen piece:[2]
The Sink also turns up in other chapters. The mekanism_reactors chapter has a quest in "?" for it, which comes after another quest in that chapter. The tips_and_tricks chapter has a quest in "?" for it with no prerequisite listed. So you can run into the Sink before you finish the food chain.[3][4]
Unverified Whether the ATM Star path uses this mod is not shown in the sources here. Check the pack's quest book for that.
How do you get started with Cooking for Blockheads?
4 parts
This pack gives Cooking for Blockheads its own quest chain in the food and farming chapter. It's a handy order to follow, so we'll go through it step by step.[2]
First: the recipe book
Start with Cooking for Blockheads I (a quest in "?"). Its tooltip describes it as: "See food you can make right now." In this pack it's made by smelting, not by crafting.[2][5][6]
Next: the crafting book
Then comes Cooking for Blockheads II (a quest in "?"). Its tooltip describes it as: "Craft food with what you have available." Its quest lists the first book's quest as the one before it.[2][5][6]

Then: the Cooking Table
The tooltip for Cooking Table (a quest in "?") says it enables crafting abilities. In the quest chain, the sink, oven, counter, cabinet, ice unit, heating unit and cow jar quests all come after it.[2][5][6]

Build out the kitchen
After the Cooking Table quest, the chain branches into these blocks. Here's what their tooltips say:[2]
- Sink: the tooltip says it provides water to recipes.[2][6]
- Oven (shown in-game as Oven): the tooltip says it enables smelting abilities.[2][5][6]
- Kitchen Counter: the tooltip says it stores ingredients for recipes.[2][6]
- Kitchen Cabinet: the tooltip says it can be placed on the wall above kitchen blocks.[2][6]
- Ice Unit: the tooltip says it provides snow and ice to recipes.[2][6]
- Heating Unit: the tooltip says it allows heating an oven using energy.[2][6]
- Cow in a Jar: the tooltip says it slowly produces milk for recipes.[2][6]

How does Cooking for Blockheads work?
5 parts
Cooking for Blockheads is a kitchen-building mod. Its language file lists a whole set of kitchen blocks: Cooking Table, Kitchen Counter, Kitchen Cabinet, Fridge, Oven, Sink, Kitchen Connector and Kitchen Floor, plus a Toaster, Spice Rack, Tool Rack, Fruit Basket, Cutting Board and a Milk Jar. Most of them come in a colour for each dye. The sources here are mostly names and crafting recipes, so this section covers what they confirm and nothing more.[6]
The recipe book chain
Everything starts with the books. Cooking for Blockheads I is made by smelting, not by normal crafting. Here is the recipe.[5]
The upgrade is Cooking for Blockheads II, a shaped crafting recipe that builds on the first book.[5]

There is also a third book, Cooking for Blockheads. You craft it from the first book, and a smelting recipe turns it back into the first book.[5]
Smelting

Cooking Table
The Cooking Table is crafted from the second book, so you need the upgrade before you can place one.[5]

Building the kitchen
The storage and layout pieces each have their own crafting recipe: the Kitchen Counter, the Kitchen Cabinet, the Fridge and the Kitchen Connector. The Fridge is a shapeless recipe.[5]

Unverified The sources do not explain how the Kitchen Connector links kitchen blocks together, how far the link reaches, or how items move between cabinets, fridges and the cooking table.
Colours and floors
Dyeing is done in the crafting grid. The pack has 112 shapeless recipes that produce dyed variants, using tags for the cabinets, connectors, cooking tables, counters, fridges and ovens. Black versions of the cabinet, connector and cooking table are examples.[5]

You can strip the dye from a cabinet or a connector again with a dedicated recipe each.[5]

Floors work differently. The base Kitchen Floor is made from concrete and gives 4 floors per craft. Dyeing a floor gives 8 of the coloured floor at once, for example Black Kitchen Floor.[5]

Options the mod describes
The mod's own option text describes a few behaviours. One option controls whether the Oven can be automated: when disallowed, pipes and similar can't insert or extract. Another controls the Cow in a Jar: when enabled, a cow can be squished into a Milk Jar by dropping an anvil on top, and the jar then generates milk every tick. The Toaster has an option for very toasted bread: toasting already toasted bread again gives charcoal, but only if no other mod adds toast. A last option holds a list of recipe ids to leave out of the recipe book.[6]
Unverified The pack ships no config file for this mod in the sources, so whether oven automation is allowed, whether the Cow in a Jar is enabled, and the milk amount per tick in this pack are unconfirmed.
How do you progress through Cooking for Blockheads?
6 parts
In this pack, progression for Cooking for Blockheads follows one quest line in the food_and_farming chapter. You start with a recipe book, upgrade it, unlock the Cooking Table, and that opens up the rest of the kitchen. The quests have no titles, so each one is named here by the item it asks for.[2]
Step 1: Cooking for Blockheads I
The chain starts with Cooking for Blockheads I in quest a quest in "?". In this pack it is made by smelting, not in a crafting grid.[2][5]
There is also a smelting recipe that turns Cooking for Blockheads into the same Cooking for Blockheads I book.[5]

Step 2: Cooking for Blockheads II
Next is Cooking for Blockheads II in quest a quest in "?". It is crafted from your Cooking for Blockheads I book, so hold on to that one.[2][5]

Step 3: The Cooking Table
Quest a quest in "?" asks for the Cooking Table. It is the gate for the rest of the chapter, because every other Cooking for Blockheads quest in it comes after this one. Its recipe uses Cooking for Blockheads II, so you can't skip the upgrade above.[2][5]

Kitchen branches
Once the Cooking Table quest is done, the remaining quests in the chapter all open up side by side, so you can take them in any order. These are the kitchen pieces they ask for:[2]
- Sink in quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Ice Unit in quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Heating Unit in quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Oven in quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Kitchen Counter in quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Kitchen Cabinet in quest a quest in "?".[2]
- Cow in a Jar in quest a quest in "?".[2]
Here are the in-pack recipes for those pieces that the recipe list shows.[5]

Other quests that ask for a Sink
The Sink shows up in other chapters as well. Quest a quest in "?" in mekanism_reactors asks for a Sink. So does quest a quest in "?" in tips_and_tricks, and that one has no prerequisite listed.[3][4]
Colors and dye removal
The quests don't cover colors, but the pack has dye recipes for kitchen blocks such as cabinets, connectors, cooking tables, counters, fridges, ovens and sinks. For example, you can make a Black Kitchen Cabinet from a plain cabinet. Dyed Cooking Tables, Counters, Cabinets and Sinks can be turned back into the plain version with a removal recipe.[5]

How does Cooking for Blockheads work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, the clearest link between Cooking for Blockheads and another mod is colored kitchen flooring. The pack adds crafting recipes under the dyenamicsandfriends namespace that make colored versions of the basic Kitchen Floor. The colored floors are registered under that other namespace, not under Cooking for Blockheads itself.[5]
Colored kitchen floors
Every color has its own pack-added recipe. Here is one example, the Amber floor:[5]
Crafting Shaped
| any amber dye | ||
Recipe id: dyenamicsandfriends:amber_kitchen_floor
The other colors follow the same pattern, each with its own dye.
These are the colors the pack adds:[5]
- Amber Kitchen Floor, Aquamarine Kitchen Floor and Bubblegum Kitchen Floor[5]
- Cherenkov Kitchen Floor, Conifer Kitchen Floor and Fluorescent Kitchen Floor[5]
- Honey Kitchen Floor, Icy Blue Kitchen Floor and Lavender Kitchen Floor[5]
- Maroon Kitchen Floor, Mint Kitchen Floor and Navy Kitchen Floor[5]
- Peach Kitchen Floor, Persimmon Kitchen Floor and Rose Kitchen Floor[5]
- Spring Green Kitchen Floor, Ultramarine Kitchen Floor and Wine Kitchen Floor[5]
Quest crossovers
The Sink also shows up outside the pack's food chapter. One quest that asks for it sits in the mekanism_reactors chapter (a quest in "?"), and another is in the tips_and_tricks chapter (a quest in "?"). Both quests are untitled in the pack files.[3][4]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Cooking for Blockheads?
3 parts
Cooking for Blockheads shows up in three quest chapters in this pack. The main one is food_and_farming, which walks you through the mod's items in a set order. The mekanism_reactors and tips_and_tricks chapters each have a single quest for the same block. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so I describe them by what they ask for.[2][3][4]
Food and farming: the main chain
Every Cooking for Blockheads quest in this chapter has an item task for a single item from the mod. The chain starts as a straight line, then branches.[2]
- Start with a quest in "?", which asks for Cooking for Blockheads I.[2]
- Next is a quest in "?", which asks for Cooking for Blockheads II.[2]
- Then a quest in "?" asks for the Cooking Table.[2]
Branching out from the Cooking Table
Once the Cooking Table quest is done, the chain splits. All the quests below unlock after it, so you can take them in any order you like.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Sink.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Ice Unit.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Heating Unit.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Oven.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Kitchen Counter.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Cow in a Jar.[2]
- a quest in "?" asks for the Kitchen Cabinet.[2]
Sink quests in other chapters
The Sink gets extra quests outside food_and_farming. In mekanism_reactors, a quest in "?" asks for it, and it unlocks only after another quest in that chapter. In tips_and_tricks, a quest in "?" also asks for the sink, and no prerequisite is listed for it.[3][4]
