What is The Aether?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.0 guide

This pack includes The Aether, version 1.5.10, as the NeoForge build for Minecraft 1.21.1. It has been part of the pack for several updates, so it's a settled part of the lineup.[1]

Unverified What the mod adds, who it is best suited for, and how it fits into this pack's progression could not be confirmed from the available sources, so those details are left out of this overview for now.

How do you get started with The Aether?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.0 guide

Welcome to the sky! This section covers the first things worth crafting once you start playing with The Aether in this pack. Each recipe card below shows the exact in-pack recipe, so you can see what this pack actually uses.[2]

Your first tools

Start with Skyroot gear. The Skyroot Axe is the first tool to make, and a Skyroot Bucket is also crafted from Skyroot materials.[2]

Once you're mining Holystone, upgrade to Holystone tools. Grab the Holystone Pickaxe first, then the Holystone Sword, Holystone Axe and Holystone Shovel as you need them. Holystone matters beyond tools too: the Altar, Freezer and Incubator recipes all use it, so keep a good stack.[2]

Make some Ambrosium Torch next. They light up your base, and you'll need them later for the Incubator.[2]

Your first workstations

The Altar needs Zanite, so it's your goal once you find a Zanite Gemstone. It's worth it: you use the Altar to obtain Enchanted Gravitite, which leads to the Gravitite gear.[2][3]

The Freezer works with Icestone. One of its uses is freezing accessories, which even earns you an advancement.[2][3]

The Incubator builds on the Ambrosium Torch you made earlier, so craft it once your torches are sorted.[2]

How does The Aether work?

7 parts

In this pack, The Aether works mostly through recipes rather than power or fluid networks. The mod has its own recipe types, ordinary cooking and stonecutting, and a set of Create recipes that the pack adds or changes. Here is how those pieces fit together.[4]

The mod's own recipe types

The recipe dump shows two Aether-specific types: aether:enchanting, with 9 recipes, and aether:freezing. The mod also has an Altar, a Freezer and an Incubator block. Two advancements point at the first two: you use an Altar to obtain Enchanted Gravitite, and you use a Freezer and Icestone to freeze an accessory.[4][5]

Freezing is the simpler one to see in action. A Cold Aercloud turns into a Blue Aercloud, the bouncy cloud that one advancement asks you to bounce on.[4][5]

Freezing (aether)

Recipe id: aether:blue_aercloud_freezing

The enchanting type also covers the music discs. The Blue Music Disc accepts any disc from a tag the mod defines, while the Sepia Music Disc needs one specific vanilla disc.[4]

Vanilla cooking also makes a music disc. Smelting turns a different vanilla disc into the Blackened Music Disc.[4]

Ambrosium processing

Ambrosium Ore gives one Ambrosium Shard in either a furnace or a blast furnace. A Block of Ambrosium breaks back down into 9 shards.[4]

Create compatibility

The pack also changed two Create recipes for Aether terrain. Pressing Aether Dirt makes an Aether Dirt Path. Filling Aether Dirt with 500 of water makes an Aether Grass Block.[4]

Crafting versus stonecutting

Crafting and stonecutting can give different amounts from the same Aerogel, so compare them before you cut. The Aerogel Slab and Aerogel Stairs recipes below show the difference. The mod has 40 stonecutting recipes in total.[4]

Gear upgrades

Netherite Gloves come from a smithing upgrade of Diamond Gloves, and the pack changed that recipe. The sources do not say what differs from the mod default.[4]

Recipe id: aether:netherite_gloves_smithing

Dungeons and mob control

The advancements lay out a dungeon progression: defeat the bronze boss, then the silver boss, then the gold boss. The Bronze Dungeon rewards point you on to the Silver Dungeon, and the Silver Dungeon's reward hints that a final dungeon awaits. The language file also lists locked, trapped, boss doorway and treasure doorway versions of the dungeon stones.[5]

Tip: You can keep some hostile spawns away. Planting a flower on Enchanted Grass deters Aechor Plants, and placing a Swet Banner deters Swets.[5]

Config notes

The pack turns off the mod's Patreon message with [[config:config/aether-common.toml#Gameplay.Show Patreon message]]. It also turns off the loading-screen tips with [[config:config/aether-startup.toml#Gui.Enables random trivia]]. Neither changes gameplay.[6][7]

How do you progress through The Aether?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 7.0 guide

Your Aether gear comes in four material families: Skyroot, Holystone, Zanite and Gravitite. In this pack the tool and armor recipes for all of them are the mod's own recipes, unchanged, so what you craft here matches the standard Aether versions.[2]

Skyroot: your first tools

Everything starts with Skyroot. Chop some Skyroot Log, turn it into Skyroot Planks and then Skyroot Stick. That gets you the full Skyroot set: Skyroot Pickaxe, Skyroot Axe, Skyroot Shovel, Skyroot Hoe and Skyroot Sword, plus the handy Skyroot Bucket.[2]

Tip: Keep a stack of Skyroot Sticks on you. Every Holystone, Zanite and Gravitite tool recipe in this pack uses them too, so you'll be crafting them the whole way up.[2]

Holystone: the stone tier

Once you're mining Holystone, you can upgrade to the Holystone Pickaxe, Holystone Axe, Holystone Shovel, Holystone Hoe and Holystone Sword. Holystone also goes into your first utility blocks, the Freezer and the Incubator.[2]

Zanite: gems and the Altar

Gravitite: the top set

Gravitite gives you the biggest lineup: Gravitite Pickaxe, Gravitite Axe, Gravitite Shovel, Gravitite Hoe and Gravitite Sword, plus a full armor set with Gravitite Helmet, Gravitite Chestplate, Gravitite Leggings, Gravitite Boots and even Gravitite Gloves. All of them need processed Gravitite rather than the raw material.[2]

How does The Aether work with other mods?

1 part

The only integration I can confirm for The Aether in this pack is with Create. Both Aether ores can be processed with Create's crushing recipe type, and the pack has changed both of these recipes.[4]

Crushing Aether ores with Create

Crush Ambrosium Ore and you get Ambrosium Shard and Holystone, plus a Nugget of Experience from Create. The recipe below is the exact in-pack version.[4]

Crushing (create)

Recipe id: create:crushing/compat/aether/ambrosium_ore

Zanite Ore works the same way. Crushing it gives Holystone and Zanite Gemstone, plus another Nugget of Experience.[4]

Crushing (create)

Recipe id: create:crushing/compat/aether/zanite_ore

Tip: Because the pack changes both recipes, don't assume the outputs or drop chances match another Create and Aether setup. Check the recipes above for what this pack does.[4]

Unverified No quests in this pack involving The Aether were available to me, and I found no other recipes linking it to other mods. Any further integrations are unconfirmed.

Which The Aether config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.2.1 guide

Two Aether config options are worth knowing about in this pack. Both change what shows up on your screen rather than how the mod plays. Here's what each one does and how the pack sets it.[8][9]

Patreon message

The [[config:config/aether-common.toml#Gameplay.Show Patreon message]] option controls whether a message linking to The Aether mod's Patreon is shown. This pack sets it to false, so you won't see that message.[8]

Loading screen trivia

The [[config:config/aether-startup.toml#Gui.Enables random trivia]] option adds random trivia and tips to the bottom of loading screens. This pack sets it to false, so your loading screens won't show Aether trivia or tips.[9]

Tip: If you'd like the loading screen trivia and tips back, this is the option to set to true. Note that it lives in the startup config file, not the common one.[9]

Unverified The pack files don't show the mod's own default values for these two options, so it isn't confirmed whether the pack changed them or left them at their defaults. Gameplay settings such as dungeon or dimension options aren't covered by the available config files either.
