Terralith is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 2.6.2. Explore almost 100 new biomes consisting of both realism and light fantasy, using just Vanilla blocks. Complete with several immersive structures to compliment the overhauled terrain. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Terralith?

2 parts

Terralith is a world generation mod. It takes Minecraft's 1.18 terrain overhaul and pushes it much further, adding over 95 brand new biomes and updating almost every vanilla biome. You also get new terrain types like canyons, shattered biomes, floating islands and deep ocean trenches. It does all this using just vanilla blocks.[1]

If you love exploring, building on interesting landscapes, or just want a world that looks great, this one is for you. The pack ships Terralith 2.6.2, so everything below about the mod version of 2.6.0 and later applies here.[1][2]

What you will find

  • Realistic biomes, such as Yellowstone, Yosemite Cliffs, Shield, Volcanic Peaks and Desert Oases, plus flat Highlands that are great for building.[1]
  • Fantasy biomes, such as Moonlight Grove, Amethyst Rainforest, Scarlet Mountains, Mirage Isles and Alpha Islands.[1]
  • Custom caves, including Underground Jungle, Infested Caves, Fungal Caves and the dangerous Frostfire Caves, which you only reach by digging very deep.[1]
  • Structures like the tall Spire in the iciest biomes, rare Fortified Villages in plains and desert, and the Glacial Hut.[1]

Config

Since 2.6.0 the mod version has a config file called terralith.json, which you can also edit in game through the mod menu. It has toggles for Custom Structures, Fog Tweaks, Intro Message, Skylands, Terrain Slabs, Vanilla Stone Generation and Recipe Changes. The mod defaults are everything on except Vanilla Stone Generation and Recipe Changes. I can't confirm from the sources whether the pack changes any of these values.[1]

The mod also adds two world types: Amplified + Large Biomes and Oops! All Skylands, a void world filled only with Skylands.[1]

Watch out: You cannot remove Terralith from an existing world. Adding it to an existing world is not recommended either, so reset your world or start a new one.[1]

Unverified Where Terralith fits in the pack's progression is not confirmed by the sources. There is no in-jar guidebook to check, and nothing here ties the mod to quests or to the ATM Star path.

How do you get started with Terralith?

4 parts

Here's the thing about Terralith: there's no crafting to start with. It's a world generation mod that adds almost 100 biomes, new terrain types and a few structures, so your first steps are about how you start your world and what you go looking for.[1]

First, start with a fresh world

The mod's own notes are clear: you cannot remove it from an existing world, and adding it to an existing world is not recommended. Reset the world or make a new one first.[1]

Watch out: Don't add this mod to a world you care about and expect to take it back out later. Terralith can't be removed from an existing world.[1]

When you create a new world, you may see a toast with a Discord link and a warning about problems when uninstalling. That's the mod's intro message, and it's normal.[3]

Next, look around the new terrain

Terralith adds over 95 new biomes and updates almost every vanilla biome. It also adds new terrain types: canyons, shattered biomes, floating islands and deep ocean trenches. Expect your usual spawn area to look different from vanilla.[1]

Some biomes worth knowing by name are Yellowstone, Volcanic Peaks, Desert Oases, Moonlight Grove, Amethyst Rainforest and Scarlet Mountains. Underground, you can find custom caves such as the Underground Jungle, Infested Caves and Fungal Caves. If you dig very deep, you may reach the Frostfire Caves, which the mod describes as dangerous.[1]

Then, spot the structures

The mod adds a handful of structures. The tall Spire rises in the iciest biomes, Fortified Villages turn up rarely in plains and desert, and the Glacial Hut can give you shelter if you get caught out cold at night. The mod's custom structures setting also lists Mage Towers.[1][3]

Tip: Want to find biomes and structures for a seed before you explore? The mod's page recommends jacobsjo's Minecraft Datapack Map.[1]

Things you'll notice while playing

  • In biomes with surface stone, stone slabs generate to smooth out the terrain.[3]
  • Fog distance and color change in some biomes, such as swamps and caves.[3]
  • Skylands are a set of four season-themed biomes that generate as sky islands above deep oceans.[3]
  • The mod's recipe changes option lets some items normally crafted with cobblestone be crafted with alternate stones. It also adds a recipe for converting stone slabs to cobblestone.[3]

Unverified I couldn't confirm which of these options are switched on in this pack, or the exact Terralith version it ships. I also have no in-pack recipes for the mod, so there are no recipe blocks here. No quests in this pack involve it either.

How does Terralith work?

2 parts

Here's the honest part up front: Terralith is a world generation mod, not a tech mod. It adds biomes, terrain and structures built from vanilla blocks, so there are no machines, multiblocks, power networks, fluids or item pipes to learn. The sources don't describe any of those systems for it.[1]

What does work like a mechanic is the config. Terralith has a set of on/off modules that decide what generates in your world, and the pack sets several of them differently from the mod's defaults.[1][3][4]

The config modules and the pack's settings

  • Custom structures (modules.custom_structures) is on in the pack, which matches the mod default. It spawns custom structures such as Fortified Villages and Mage Towers.[1][3][4]
  • Skylands (modules.skylands) is on in the pack, which matches the mod default. It's a set of four season-themed biomes that generate as sky islands above deep oceans. Turning the module off stops them from generating.[1][3][4]
  • Terrain slabs (modules.terrain_slabs) is on in the pack, which matches the mod default. In biomes with surface stone, stone slabs generate to smooth the terrain. Turning it off stops them from generating.[1][3][4]
  • Intro message (modules.intro_message) is off in the pack, while the mod default is on. When enabled, it shows a toast when you create a new world, with a Discord link and a warning about difficulties when trying to uninstall. In the pack you won't see it.[1][3][4]
  • Vanilla stone generation (modules.vanilla_stone_gen) is off in the pack, which matches the mod default. When enabled, it generates small blobs of granite, andesite and diorite underground, as vanilla does. With it off, Terralith replaces that with dedicated cave biomes for each stone type.[1][3][4]
  • Recipe changes (modules.recipe_changes) is off in the pack, which matches the mod default. When enabled, some items crafted with cobblestone can use alternate stones, and a recipe is added for converting stone slabs to cobblestone. In the pack, those extra recipes are not active.[1][3][4]

The config file also carries a version number, config_version, which the pack sets to 1.[4]

Tip: Terralith also has a fog tweaks option that changes fog distance and color in some biomes, such as swamps and caves. The pack's config file doesn't list it, so I can't tell you what the pack sets it to.[3][4]

World handling you should know about

Watch out: You cannot remove Terralith from an existing world. Adding it to an existing world isn't recommended either, so reset your world or start a new one.[1]

Terralith is also compatible with most biome-adding mods when they use Terrablender or an equivalent, but biome-adding datapacks are typically not compatible.[1]

Unverified The sources don't say whether any Terralith structure or biome has special loot, interaction or automation behavior in this pack, so none is described here.

Which Terralith config options matter?

2 parts

Terralith keeps its settings in one file, and this pack ships it with a short list of module toggles. Here is exactly how the pack sets each one, so you know what you're getting before you start a world.[4]

Modules turned on

Modules turned off

The file also carries config_version, which is 1 here. That is just a format marker, so you don't need to touch it.[4]

Unverified The sources I was given don't list Terralith's own default values for these options. I can't tell you which of the toggles above the pack changed from the mod default, only the values the pack uses.

If you edit this file, do it before you create your world. Terralith's project page warns that you cannot remove Terralith from an existing world, and that adding it to an existing world is not recommended.[1]

What changed in Terralith between versions?

5 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 includes Terralith 2.6.2, and Terralith was already in the pack by 0.7.0-beta or earlier. The notes below come from Terralith's own changelogs, so they tell you what the mod changed, not what the pack changed.[2][5][6]

Terralith 2.6.2 (the version in this pack)

This is the release that backported Terralith 2.6.0 to 1.21.1. It also brings in a mix of features and bug fixes backported from later Terralith versions.[5]

Setup and world types

  • Terralith now depends on Lithostitched.[5]
  • It is now compatible with the Superflat, Single Biome, Large Biomes and Amplified world types.[5]
  • Two new world types were added: Amplified + Large Biomes, and Oops! All Skylands.[5]
  • A config file was added. You can toggle the intro message, recipe changes, custom structures, Vanilla stone generation, Skylands and Terrain slabs.[5]
  • The intro message was edited to warn about uninstallation.[5]

Biomes and mob spawns

  • Endermen were removed from the Underground Jungle so they don't surpass the mobcap.[5]
  • Skeletons were removed from the Frostfire Caves in favor of Strays.[5]
  • Cobblestone in the Infested Caves is now Infested Cobblestone.[5]
  • Lavender biomes got extra purple flowers, and the Autumn and Spring Skylands got small tweaks.[5]
  • Camels now naturally spawn in desert biomes, to match Vanilla 1.21.5 behavior.[5]
  • Axolotls were removed from biomes where they didn't belong.[5]
  • Zombie Sieges are disabled in Terralith's rare island biomes.[5]

Fixes

  • Modded structures can no longer spawn underneath Skyland biomes.[5]
  • Serene Seasons no longer affects Skyland biomes.[5]
  • Some trapdoors in Mage Towers could be waterlogged, and that is fixed.[5]

Terralith 2.5.8

This was an earlier, smaller loot and enchantment fix release.[6]

  • Added a missing loot table in the Mage Complex houses.[6]
  • Added a missing loot table in the shepherd house of the Desert Fortified Village.[6]
  • Fixed enchanted books and items receiving enchantments they shouldn't.[6]
