What is Summoning Rituals?
2 parts
Summoning Rituals is a mod for building custom summoning rituals around a single block, the Summoning Altar. A ritual can produce items, mobs or run commands, so what you can do with it depends on how a pack sets it up. This pack uses version 1.21.1-3.14.1.[1][2]
The mod is aimed at modpack developers, who usually write the recipes with its native KubeJS integration. It adds no recipes by default, so any ritual you find in this pack was added by the pack itself.[1]
Where you meet it in the pack
The pack points you to the altar in a quest called a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)", in the chapter "The Pika Star (WIP)". It is a short checkmark quest that teaches you how to read the altar's JEI recipes. The mod is not on the ATM Star quest path.[3]
Reading an altar recipe in JEI
- Center: the altar itself.[3]
- Around the altar: the offerings needed to start the ritual. These can be items you insert by using them on the altar, or entities that must stand near it.[3]
- Above the altar: the initiator, a key item. Use it on the altar once everything else is ready.[3]
- Top left, the Nether Star icon: the conditions the ritual needs before it can start.[3]
- Bottom left, the structure block icon: shown when a recipe needs a block pattern. Click it to preview the pattern in the world.[3]
Unverified Which specific rituals this pack adds, and where they fall in the progression, could not be confirmed from the available sources.
How do you get started with Summoning Rituals?
3 parts
Summoning Rituals is all about the Summoning Altar. The mod adds no recipes by default and is built so modpack developers can define their own rituals, so the altar is your first stop in this mod.[1]
Step 1: Craft the Summoning Altar
The pack adds its own shaped recipe for the altar, so here is the exact in-pack version:[4]
Shaped (kubejs)
| any candle | any candle | |
| any candle | any candle | |
Recipe id: allthemons:summoning_ritual_altar
This altar recipe is added by the pack.
Step 2: Learn to read the altar recipes in JEI
Once you have the altar, the quest a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)" in the chapter "The Pika Star (WIP)" explains how to read its JEI recipes. It is worth a look, because every ritual is laid out the same way.[3]
- Center: the altar itself.[3]
- Around the altar: the offerings the ritual needs before it can start. These can be items you insert by using them on the altar, or entities that must be near the altar.[3]
- Above the altar: the initiator, the key item. You use it on the altar once everything else is ready.[3]
- Top left, the Nether Star icon: the conditions for the ritual to start.[3]
- Bottom left, the Structure Block icon: if a recipe needs a block pattern to be matched, click it to preview the pattern in the world.[3][5]
Step 3: Run a ritual
- Open a ritual in JEI and check its conditions and, if it has one, its block pattern preview.[3][5]
- Provide the offerings: use the items on the altar and bring any required entities near it.[3]
- Use the initiator on the altar last, once everything else is ready.[3][5]
How does Summoning Rituals work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
Summoning Rituals is a toolkit for pack makers. It lets them create custom summoning rituals for items, mobs and commands. The mod adds no recipes by default, and it has native KubeJS integration, which is the easiest way to create them.[1]
The Summoning Altar
The block at the center of every ritual is the Summoning Altar. In this pack you craft it with a KubeJS recipe that the pack added, shown below.[6]
Shaped (kubejs)
| any candle | any candle | |
| any candle | any candle | |
Recipe id: allthemons:summoning_ritual_altar
This shaped recipe is added by the pack.
Starting a ritual
The mod's own tooltips give you two hints. First, the item you insert last is what starts the ritual. Second, you can click to show a preview in the world.[5]
Altar inventory size
The pack changed the altar's inventory. inventory_size is set to 19 slots, while the mod default is 16. The allowed range is 1 to 64.[7]
Command outputs
A ritual can run a command as its output. announce_command is set to true in this pack, so the log announces whenever a recipe output command is invoked. This helps you work out where a command came from.[7]
How do you progress through Summoning Rituals?
3 parts
What the pack shows for Summoning Rituals is the entry point: getting your first Summoning Altar and learning how to read its recipes. The pack's quests and recipes here don't lay out separate tiers for the mod, so there is no tier breakdown to give you.[3][4]
Where it sits in the quests
The altar appears in the quest chapter "The Pika Star (WIP)" as a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)". It comes after a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)", and its tasks are to obtain the altar and tick a checkmark. The chapter is labelled WIP in its title.[3]
Crafting the altar
The altar recipe is a shaped recipe added by the pack through KubeJS, so don't assume it matches the mod's default. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[4]
Shaped (kubejs)
| any candle | any candle | |
| any candle | any candle | |
Recipe id: allthemons:summoning_ritual_altar
Reading altar recipes in JEI
The quest explains how to read the ritual recipes you'll find in JEI. Each part of the recipe screen has a job:[3]
- Center: the altar itself.[3]
- Around the altar: the offerings needed to start the ritual. These can be items inserted by using them on the altar, or entities that must be near the altar.[3]
- Above the altar: the initiator, the key item. Use it on the altar once everything else is ready.[3]
- Top left, the Nether Star icon: the conditions for the ritual to start.[3]
- Bottom left, the Structure Block icon: when a recipe needs a block pattern, click it to preview the pattern in the world.[3]
How does Summoning Rituals work with other mods?
2 parts
On its own, Summoning Rituals doesn't add any recipes. It's a toolkit for pack makers, and it has native KubeJS integration for writing custom recipes. So the connections to other mods in this pack come from what the pack itself adds.[1]
Getting the Summoning Altar
The Summoning Altar is the clearest link to another mod. The pack adds its crafting recipe through KubeJS, and that recipe uses alloy blocks from Allthemodium alongside vanilla items.[4]
Shaped (kubejs)
| any candle | any candle | |
| any candle | any candle | |
Recipe id: allthemons:summoning_ritual_altar
This recipe is added by the pack through KubeJS, not by the mod itself.
Quest support
Quest a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)" in the "The Pika Star (WIP)" chapter has you obtain the altar. It also explains how to read altar recipes in JEI. The chapter is marked work in progress, so it may change.[3]
- The altar sits in the center of the JEI recipe.[3]
- The offerings around it are what the ritual needs to start. They can be items inserted by using them on the altar, or entities that must be near it.[3]
- The initiator sits above the altar. It's the key item, and you use it on the altar once everything else is ready.[3]
- The Nether Star icon at the top left shows the conditions for the ritual to start.[3]
- The Structure Block icon at the bottom left appears when a recipe needs a block pattern. Click it to preview the pattern in the world.[3]
Which All the Mons quests use Summoning Rituals?
1 part
In this pack, the mod shows up in one quest, and it lives in the chapter "The Pika Star (WIP)". As the name says, that chapter is still a work in progress, so more could be added later.[3]
The Summoning Altar quest
The quest a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)" has no title in the quest book. It asks you to submit the Summoning Altar, and it also has a checkmark task. It unlocks after you finish a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)", so you need that one done first.[3]
This quest is really a guide to reading the Altar recipes in JEI. Here's what the quest text says each part of the recipe screen means:[3]
- Center: the altar itself.[3]
- Around the altar: the offerings needed for the ritual to start. These can be items you insert by using them on the altar, or entities that must be near the altar.[3]
- Initiator (above the altar): the key item that starts the ritual. You use it on the altar once everything else is ready.[3]
- Top left Nether Star icon: the conditions the ritual needs before it can start.[3]
- Bottom left Structure Block: shown when a recipe needs a block pattern. Click it to preview the pattern in the world.[3]
Unverified The sources don't say what a quest in "The Pika Star (WIP)" asks for, and they show no other quests or chapters for this mod, so we can't say whether the quest gives rewards or leads to further ritual quests.
Which Summoning Rituals config options matter?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
Summoning Rituals keeps its settings small. The mod adds no recipes of its own, so the rituals you see come from the pack, and the config file only covers a couple of Altar behaviors. Both options live in the common config.[1][7]
Altar inventory size
The option you will most likely care about is inventory_size. It sets the number of slots in the Altar's inventory. The mod default is 16, but this pack changed it to 19. The allowed range is 1 to 64.[7]
Command announcements
announce_command controls whether the log announces when a recipe output command is invoked. It helps you work out where a command came from. This pack sets it to true, and that is not listed as a change from the mod default.[7]
What changed in Summoning Rituals between versions?
1 part
All the Mons 1.0.0-rc.7 ships Summoning Rituals version 1.21.1-3.14.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.0-rc.1 or earlier. The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs for the versions we have notes on.[2]
Mod changelog highlights
- 1.21.1-3.14.1 (the version in this pack): fixed class loading issues when KubeJS is not installed, which were causing recipe viewers to break.[2][8]
- 1.21.1-3.13.3: fixed a crash when KubeJS is not installed.[9]
- 1.21.1-3.13.2: added localization support for biomes in biome conditions, and changed the animation calculation base from system nano time to Minecraft's DeltaTracker.[10]
- 1.21.1-3.11.1: added a utility method for obtaining the position in summoning KubeJS events, and fixed the level property not being accessible in those events.[11]
These are only the versions we have changelogs for, so other releases between them may have changes that aren't listed here.[8][9][10][11]
