What is SimpleTMs: TMs and TRs for Cobblemon?
2 parts
SimpleTMs is an expansion for Cobblemon that brings TMs (Technical Machines) and TRs (Technical Records) from the Pokémon games into the pack. With them you can teach moves to your Pokémon. If you're building a Cobblemon team and want to shape its moveset, this mod is for you. The pack ships SimpleTMs version 2.3.3 for NeoForge.[1][2]
How TMs and TRs work
- TMs teach a specific move to a Pokémon. By default a TM has 32 uses, and you can repair it with diamond blocks in an anvil.[1]
- TRs work similarly, but they break after a single use.[1]
- When you use a TM or TR that has a move assigned, a screen opens so you can pick a Pokémon from your party, as long as it can learn that move.[1]
- Blank TMs and TRs let you imprint a move. You choose a party Pokémon and then a move from its moveset. A blank TM makes a TM of that move, and a blank TR makes a TR. By default, any move can be imprinted.[1]
- The TM Case and TR Case store your TMs and TRs in a single portable item. The TM Machine is a placeable block with shared storage that works like a regular chest.[1]
Where you get them
The main source is Pokémon fainting, which can drop TRs and, more rarely, TMs. In a battle you pick 1 of 4 random moves from the Pokémon's learnset. Outside a battle, a random move is chosen for you. By default the drop chance is 10% for TRs and 1% for TMs.[1]
You can also find TRs, and rarely TMs, in loot chests in structures like villages and ruined portals. The move types depend on the location, for example Fire-type moves in Nether chests. Blank TMs and TRs can be crafted too.[1]
Unverified The drop rates, use counts and move rules above are the mod's defaults. The sources I have don't show whether this pack changes any of them, and the project page only describes versions up to 2.2.0, while the pack uses 2.3.3. The sources also don't show this mod on the ATM Star path or in any quest.
How do you get started with SimpleTMs: TMs and TRs for Cobblemon?
5 parts
SimpleTMs lets you teach moves to your Cobblemon with TMs and TRs. The first goal is a steady supply of blanks, because a blank lets you imprint a move from one of your Pokémon's movesets. After that you set up storage. Here's the order to go in.[1]
Craft a Blank TR first
Start with Blank TR. TRs break after a single use, so they're the low-commitment way to try the system. Use a blank, pick a Pokémon from your party, then pick a move from its moveset, and you get a TR for that move. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's own, so follow this one.[1][3]
Upgrade to a Blank TM
A Blank TM makes a reusable TM instead. In this pack you make it at a smithing table from a Blank TR, and there are a couple of routes. This first one is the mod's original recipe.[1][3]
This second route is the pack's changed version, which swaps the echo shard for a netherite block.[1][3]
The mod's default is 32 uses per TM, and a TM can be repaired with diamond blocks in an anvil.[1]

Make the cases
Once you have a few TMs and TRs, they'll clutter your inventory. The TM Case and TR Case each store one type in a single portable item. Both recipes are changed by the pack.[1][3]
A case works like personal storage, similar to an ender chest. Your items persist even if the case is lost or destroyed, and its tooltip shows how much you've stored.[1][4]
Place a TM Machine
The TM Machine is a placeable block that combines TM and TR storage in one interface. Its storage is shared and works like a regular chest, so items belong to whoever takes them. That makes it a good fit for a multiplayer base.[1]
Where else do TMs and TRs come from?
Crafting isn't the only source. By default in the mod, TRs, and rarely TMs, can drop when a Pokémon faints, and they can also appear in structure loot chests such as villages and ruined portals. If a drop happens in battle, you choose from 4 random moves from that Pokémon's learnset.[1]
How does SimpleTMs: TMs and TRs for Cobblemon work?
6 parts
SimpleTMs covers move items (TMs and TRs), blank items you imprint, and storage for your collection. Here is how each piece works in this pack.[1]
Using TMs and TRs
A TM teaches a specific move to a Pokémon. By default a TM has 32 uses, and you can repair it with diamond blocks in an anvil. A TR works the same way but breaks after a single use.[1]
A TM or TR with a move assigned is used like most Cobblemon items. A screen opens so you can pick a Pokémon from your party, as long as it can learn that move. By default, Pokémon can learn moves from their TM, Tutor and Egg Move groups.[1]
Blank TMs and TRs
A Blank TM or Blank TR copies a Pokémon's move. When you use one, you pick a Pokémon from your party and then a move from its moveset. A Blank TM gives you a TM of that move, and a Blank TR gives you a TR. By default any move can be imprinted.[1][4]
Blanks can also be made from finished items. Crafting with any TM gives you a Blank TM, and crafting with any TR gives you a Blank TR.[3]

Crafting blanks in this pack
The pack changed the Blank TR recipe, so don't assume the mod's default applies.[3]
A Blank TM is made by smithing from a Blank TR. The echo shard route is the mod's own recipe, and the netherite block route is changed by the pack.[3]
TM Case and TR Case
The TM Case and TR Case store your whole collection in one portable item. A TM Case holds one of each TM, and a TR Case holds stackable TRs. The storage is personal, like an ender chest, so your items persist even if the case is lost or destroyed. The tooltip shows how full the case is, as stored count, maximum and percentage.[1][4]
Shift+use a case to select Pokémon.[4]
Both case recipes are changed by the pack.[3]
TM Machine
The TM Machine is a placeable block with shared storage that every player can access. It combines TM and TR storage in one interface and works like a regular chest, so items belong to whoever takes them. Its screen also has a Pokémon filter, which you select with Shift-click.[1][4]
The recipe is the mod's own and is not changed by the pack.[3]
Where TMs and TRs come from
Besides crafting blanks, TRs (and rarely TMs) turn up in loot chests in structures such as villages and ruined portals. The TR types depend on the location, for example Fire-type moves in Nether chests and Normal-type moves in village chests.[1]
TRs (and rarely TMs) can also drop when a Pokémon faints, which the mod describes as the main way to get them. In battle you choose 1 of 4 random moves from the Pokémon's learnset, while outside battle a random move is picked for you. By default the chances are 10% for a TR and 1% for a TM.[1]
Unverified No config files for this mod are available as a source here, so it is unverified whether the pack changes the TM use count, the drop rates or the learnable move groups. Treat those numbers as the mod's defaults.
How do you progress through SimpleTMs: TMs and TRs for Cobblemon?
5 parts
Unverified No quests in this pack involve this mod, so the pack's quest book gives no guided path for it. The order below comes only from the recipes in the pack.
Progression with SimpleTMs in this pack is a crafting ladder. You start with a Blank TR, upgrade it to a Blank TM, then build the cases and finish with the TM Machine. Several of these steps are changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[3]
First step: Blank TR
The Blank TR is where the ladder starts. The pack changed this recipe, so use the one below rather than a default one.[3]

Next step: Blank TM
A Blank TM is made by upgrading a Blank TR with a Cobblemon upgrade item. The echo shard route is the mod's own recipe.[3]

The netherite block route is changed by the pack. It uses the same upgrade item as the echo shard route, so you can pick whichever material is easier for you to get.[3]

Recycling old discs
If you end up with TMs or TRs you don't want, you can turn them back into blanks. Both of these are the mod's own recipes and accept any item in the mod's TM or TR item tags.[3]

The cases
Next come the TM Case and TR Case. The pack changed both recipes. Each one needs an item from the matching TM or TR tag, so you need to have made some already.[3]

Final step: the TM Machine
The TM Machine is the end of the ladder. It is a shapeless recipe from the mod that combines a PC from Cobblemon with both cases. That is why you need the TM and TR sides done first.[3]

How does SimpleTMs: TMs and TRs for Cobblemon work with other mods?
3 parts
In this pack, SimpleTMs connects to other mods through its recipes. Cobblemon items go into the Blank TM and TM Machine recipes, and the pack's own Pika Star recipe asks for a finished TM.[3]
Blank TMs and Cobblemon's Upgrade item
You can turn a Blank TR into a Blank TM in a smithing table, and there are separate recipes for it. Both use Cobblemon's Upgrade item. They differ in the extra material: one takes an Echo Shard, the other takes a netherite storage block.[3]
The echo shard route to a Blank TM, a smithing transform recipe from the mod.
The netherite route. The pack marks this recipe as changed, and it accepts any block from the netherite storage blocks tag.
The mod's own page says Blank TMs can be crafted with netherite blocks instead of echo shards in versions after 2.1.0. Follow the recipes shown above for what this pack actually uses.[1]
TM Machine
The TM Machine is a shapeless crafting recipe that combines Cobblemon's PC with a TM Case and a TR Case. The placed block gives you shared storage for TMs and TRs that all players can reach.[1][3]

Pika Star
The pack's own Pika Star is the biggest crossover. It uses Create's mechanical crafting, and one of its ingredients is Tm Thunder. The other ingredients come from Cobblemon, Mega Showdown, Productive Trees and the pack's own badges and Imbued Pokemon Egg, including Red Orb, Blue Orb and Star Fruit.[3]
