What is Relics?

1 part

Relics is a mod that adds useful items with unique mechanics. The project page describes it as drag-and-drop and advertises 28 relics. The pack includes Relics 0.10.7.8 for Minecraft 1.21.1.[1][2]

Thanks to the leveling system and random stats, each relic will not look like another. You choose what you want from a relic and can combine them into your own sets. The project page also says the mod's balance is automatically adjusted to the needs of the modpack, so it fits both vanilla-like packs and packs where health and damage are in the thousands.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack has a dedicated Relics quest chapter, and each quest unlocks after you've reached a dimension. The quests also tell you which structures to search for each relic.[3]

  • After the Overworld: Jellyfish Necklace and relics:amphibian_boot from Shipwrecks and Ocean Ruins, along with relics:aqua_walker. relics:wool_mitten, relics:ice_skates and relics:ice_breaker come from Villages in Taigas or Snowy Taigas. relics:hunter_belt comes from Butcher's Huts in any Village.[3]
  • After the Nether: relics:space_dissector, relics:bastion_ring, relics:blazing_flask and relics:reflection_necklace, found in Ruined Portals, Nether Fortresses and Bastions.[3]
  • After the End: relics:elytra_booster and relics:chorus_inhibitor, found in End Cities and End Ships.[3]

A few relics are especially handy. The Elytra Booster replaces fireworks with any furnace fuel, and you accelerate with Left Alt while flying. The Chorus Inhibitor teleports you to the block you're looking at, and you can upgrade its range in the Research Window. The Blazing Flask grants creative flight inside a circle you create near fire sources.[3]

Tip: Some relics, like the Chorus Inhibitor and the Blazing Flask, are upgraded in the Research Window. Each quest above also says which structures to search for that relic.[3]

The mod's author says a guidebook is not planned, so the quest text is the main in-pack information about these relics.[1][3]

Unverified The sources here do not show Relics on the ATM Star quest path.

How do you get started with Relics?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.1 guide

Here's the big thing to know about Relics in this pack: you don't craft your first relics, you go out and find them. Every quest in the Relics chapter shows you where a relic turns up, and each one unlocks after you reach a dimension (the Overworld, the Nether or the End). That gives you a natural order: Overworld relics first, Nether relics next, End relics last.[4]

Step 1: Loot the Overworld

You can start hunting as soon as you spawn. Each structure type has its own set of relics, so pick the ones that sound useful and go explore.[4]

  • Mineshafts or Strongholds: relics:magic_mirror, relics:leather_belt, relics:roller_skates and relics:midnight_robe.[4]
  • Villages: relics:holy_locket shows up in all Villages, relics:hunter_belt in Butcher's Huts, and relics:infinity_ham in Villages or Outposts.[4]
  • Villages in Taigas or Snowy Taigas: relics:wool_mitten, relics:ice_skates and relics:ice_breaker.[4]
  • Shipwrecks and Ocean Ruins: Jellyfish Necklace, relics:amphibian_boot, relics:aqua_walker and relics:drowned_belt.[4]
  • Jungle Pyramids: relics:spore_sack.[4]

Great first picks and why

  • relics:magic_mirror ("Magic Mirror" quest): right click it on a Bed to link it, then hold right click to teleport back to that bed. It's a lifesaver when you're exploring far from home.[4]
  • relics:infinity_ham ("Infinity Ham" quest): an infinite food source. Eat all the meat and it regenerates after some time. You can also marinate it in potions to get that effect each time you eat, but you lose the effect if you eat all the meat.[4]
  • relics:leather_belt ("Leather Belt" quest): it holds Talismans. The relics:hunter_belt and relics:drowned_belt hold Talismans too and add extra abilities on top.[4]
  • relics:roller_skates ("Roller Skates" quest): lets you accelerate while running on any block. Heads up, they make you much more slippery.[4]
  • relics:aqua_walker ("Aqua Walkers" quest): walk on water, and hold Shift to sink in and swim. You can only stay on the surface for a certain period, then the boots start sinking until they dry off away from water.[4][5]

Step 2: The Nether

Once you reach the Nether, check Ruined Portals, Nether Fortresses and Bastions. That's where the relics:bastion_ring, relics:blazing_flask, relics:magma_walker, relics:rage_glove, relics:reflection_necklace and relics:space_dissector are found. Try to grab the Bastion Ring early: it makes Piglins neutral to you, and the nearest Piglin points you toward a Bastion.[4][5]

Step 3: The End

End Cities and End Ships hold the relics:elytra_booster, relics:chorus_inhibitor, relics:enders_hand and relics:shadow_glaive. If you fly with an Elytra, the Elytra Booster (a quest in "Relics") is a great find. It runs on any furnace fuel instead of rockets.[4]

Tip: Many relic abilities can be upgraded in the Research Window. If research won't work, move the relic into your main inventory and try again.[4][5]

Unverified The sources don't give exact loot chances for each structure, so it could take several structures before you find the relic you're after.

How does Relics work?

4 parts

The project page describes Relics as a mod of dozens of items with unique mechanics. The sources here explain how those items behave, and say nothing about machines, multiblocks, power or fluid piping. So this section covers how relics level up, how they are researched, and how some of their abilities work.[1]

Leveling and random stats

According to the project page, Relics has a leveling system and random stats, so each relic is meant to differ from the next. You choose what you want from a relic, which allows a huge number of relic set combinations. The page also mentions improvements and customizations for your relics.[1]

The tooltips in the mod's language file describe how a relic can earn experience. Here are a few examples:[6]

  • The Ice Skates tooltip says +1 experience point for each second of acceleration from the Skating ability.[6]
  • The Bastion Ring tooltip says +1, 5 or 10 experience points for each Zombified Piglin, Piglin or Piglin Brute killed. It also lists +1 for each additional trade from the Respect ability.[6]
  • The Ice Breaker tooltip says +1 experience point for every 3 blocks of the fall before the Earthquake ability is triggered.[6]
  • The Hunter Belt tooltip says +1 experience point for each attack made by the wearer's pet.[6]
  • The Drowned Belt tooltip says +1 experience point for each level of the Riptide enchantment on the trident when using it.[6]

Researching a relic

The mod has a keybind called "Research relic under the cursor". If the relic is in a container where this can't be done, the game says that working with the relic in that inventory is not possible and asks you to move it to your main inventory and try again. The mod also has a command that complains if the item in your hand is not a relic.[6]

Watch out: The Researching Table block still has a name in the mod's language file, but it is marked [Removed from the mod]. Don't plan around it.[6]

Abilities

The project page describes a progressive active ability system, and the mod has a keybind to show the active abilities HUD. These examples come from the relic tooltips:[1][6]

  • The Elytra Booster has an internal fuel buffer. Its tooltip says any fuel that would work in a furnace, used on the relic in your inventory, refills it. Activating the ability while flying with elytra gradually raises your flight speed up to a maximum, using fuel from the buffer.[6]
  • The Holy Locket has 2 toggleable modes, Holiness and Unholiness. In the red Holiness mode it steals a share of the healing of visible entities within a radius and passes it to the wearer. In the blue Unholiness mode it damages visible entities within that radius based on the healing the wearer receives.[6]
  • The Chorus Inhibitor tooltip says using a chorus fruit teleports the wearer to a block along the line of sight, then the ability goes on cooldown.[6]
  • The Ender Hand makes endermen neutral to the wearer. Its swap ability swaps the user and the target along the line of sight, and it has the predicate "Looking at the target".[6]
  • The Infinite Ham tooltip says you can left-click it with a potion in the inventory to apply potion effects to the relic. Each time the relic is consumed, it applies those effects to the player. Using a water bottle clears the last applied effects.[6]
  • The Drowned Belt and the Hunter Belt each list an ability that increases the maximum number of amulet equipment slots.[6]
  • The Aqua Walker tooltip says it allows walking on the surface of water for a certain period, then the boots start sinking. To dry them, the wearer must stay away from water blocks.[6]

The mod's language file also names these status effects: Anti-Heal, Bleeding, Confusion, Immortality, Paralysis, Stun and Vanishing. It names a Phantom Bridge Block as well.[6]

Balance

The project page says the mod's balance is automatically adjusted to the needs of the modpack, so it should fit both vanilla-like packs and packs where health and damage are in the thousands. Many tooltip values are filled in by the game, so trust the numbers you see on your relics.[1][6]

How do you progress through Relics?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.1 guide

In this pack, Relics progression follows where you explore rather than what you craft. The Relics quest chapter splits the relics into three tiers, one per dimension: each quest unlocks after the Overworld, The Nether or The End quest. The only task in each quest is to get the relic itself, and the quest text tells you which structures to loot for it. So the real progression path is: explore Overworld structures first, push into the Nether, then raid the End.[4]

Tier 1: Overworld relics

This is the biggest tier, and every quest here opens up once you've done the Overworld quest. Group them by structure so you can grab several relics on one trip.[4]

Tip: Get a belt early. The Leather Belt, Hunter's Belt and Drowned Belt all hold Talismans. The Hunter's Belt can be upgraded to hold more, and the Drowned Belt adds water-combat abilities on top.[4]
Tip: The Magic Mirror is a big quality-of-life pickup for exploring. Right-click a Bed with it, and after that holding right-click teleports you back to that bed.[4]

Tier 2: Nether relics

After the Nether quest, the next set of relics unlocks. All of them come from the same places: Ruined Portals, Nether Fortresses and Bastions. That makes this tier easy to farm in one go.[4]

Watch out: The Magma Walkers only let you walk on Lava for a limited period, and that has a cooldown. Once the period is over, the boots overheat and damage you, so don't plan long lava crossings with them.[4]

Tier 3: End relics

The final tier opens after The End quest. Every relic here is found in End Cities and End Ships.[4]

  • relics:elytra_booster (a quest in "Relics"): wear it with an Elytra and fuel it with any Furnace Fuel. It replaces Rockets for boosting.[4]
  • relics:chorus_inhibitor ("Chorus Inhibitor" quest): teleports you to the block you're looking at if it's in range.[4]
  • relics:enders_hand ("Ender Hand" quest): Endermen don't get angry when you look at them, and you can swap places with a mob you're looking at.[4]
  • relics:shadow_glaive ("Shadow Glaive" quest): a thrown glaive that bounces between mobs, plus a giant saw attack that uses all its charges.[4]

Levelling up your relics

Finding a relic is only the start. Many relics can be upgraded, and the quests point to the Research Window for upgrades like the Chorus Inhibitor's range and the Blazing Flask's circle size. Some abilities only appear after upgrading: the Ice Skates, for example, gain a second ability that damages mobs you run into.[4]

Unverified The quest chapter doesn't list exact loot chances, upgrade costs or quest rewards for these relics, so check them in-game.

How does Relics work with other mods?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.1 guide

Relics is a pretty self-contained mod in this pack. Its quest chapter is all about hunting relics down in vanilla structures like Shipwrecks, Ocean Ruins, Villages, Nether Fortresses, Bastions and End Cities. The quest tasks ask for Relics items such as the Jellyfish Necklace, the relics:bastion_ring and the relics:enders_hand, not items from other mods.[4]

The mod's authors do say that each relic can reach its full potential alone, combined with other relics, or even combined with other mods. They also designed it to fit into big modpacks: the mod balance adjusts automatically to the pack, so relics stay useful whether a pack is close to vanilla or has health and damage numbers in the thousands.[1]

The clearest link to the wider pack is the relics:elytra_booster. You wear it together with an Elytra and fuel it with any furnace fuel, such as Coal, Lava, Logs or Dried Kelp Blocks. Then you press Left Alt while flying to accelerate. Its quest, a quest in "Relics", pitches it as a cheaper, eco-friendly alternative to rockets.[4]

Unverified Whether furnace fuels added by other mods in this pack also work in the Elytra Booster has not been confirmed.

Which All the Mons quests use Relics?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.1 guide

Relics has its own quest chapter, simply called Relics. Every quest works the same way: its only task is to get one specific relic into your inventory. Nothing here is crafted. Each quest tells you which structures that relic is found in, so you're really going on a loot hunt.[4]

The chapter is split into three groups, each unlocked after a dimension step: Overworld, then The Nether, then The End. Within each group, every quest hangs directly off that step rather than off another relic. That means you can grab the relics in any order you like once their dimension is open. The quest text for each one is also a handy rundown of what the relic's abilities do.[4]

Overworld relics

This is the biggest group, and it's sorted by where you go looking.[4]

Nether relics

Once The Nether is open, six more quests become available. All of them point you to Ruined Portals, Nether Fortresses and Bastions.[4]

Tip: Try to get the relics:bastion_ring early in your Nether trip. While you wear it, Piglins stay neutral toward you, just like when you wear Gold. That makes hunting through Bastions for the other relics a lot calmer. It won't let you loot their chests freely, though.[4]

End relics

The last group opens after The End. All four of these relics are found in End Cities and End Ships.[4]

Which Relics config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.50 guide

Relics is designed so that its balance is automatically adjusted to the needs of the modpack it is in. The mod's description says this lets it fit both vanilla-like packs and packs where health and damage numbers are in the thousands. So you may not need to touch much by hand, but the description doesn't say how this adjustment works in this pack.[1]

Unverified Which Relics config options exist in this pack, and whether the pack changed any of them from the mod defaults, could not be confirmed, because no config files for the mod were available. Check the config folder in your own instance before relying on any specific value.

What changed in Relics between versions?

1 part

All the Mons 0.14.1-beta ships Relics 0.10.7.8. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so you've had it for a long time.[2]

Recent Relics releases

  • 0.10.7.6: fixed compatibility with OctoLib 0.6.[7]
  • 0.10.7.7: fixed a compatibility issue between Roller Skates and the Helium Flamingo from RAR-Compat.[8]
  • 0.10.7.8: fixed another compatibility issue between Roller Skates and the Helium Flamingo from RAR-Compat.[9]

All three are small bug-fix releases, and the pack uses the latest of them. If you ever hit odd behaviour when wearing Roller Skates together with the Helium Flamingo, these are the fixes aimed at that combination.[2][7][8][9]

Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for Relics, so it is unverified whether any Relics changes were made or noted between pack releases, or whether the pack changed any Relics values.
