What is Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
4 parts
Radical Cobblemon Trainers adds over 1,500 trainers to your world, taken from the ROM hacks Radical Red (v3.02) and Unbound (v2.0.3.2) and from Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. They spawn naturally, and different biomes have different trainers. This pack includes version 0.17.4-beta of the mod.[1][2]
It's for you if you want Cobblemon to have real battles and a goal to work toward. You can defeat leaders and rivals and aim to become the champion. It's an addon, so it needs Cobblemon and the Radical Cobblemon Trainers API to run.[1]
Level caps
The mod also limits your progress. Pokémon in your party below a certain level (the level cap) won't gain any EXP until you defeat the next key trainer, such as a gym leader. The pack's quest book points out that this changes the levels your Pokémon can reach until you beat a certain trainer.[1][3]
Getting started
Your main tool is the Trainer Card. It tracks your progress, shows information about trainers, and helps you find the next key trainer when they spawn nearby. You can craft one or trade for it with a Trainer Associate, a villager. Associates can also give you a Series, which tells you which trainer to beat to raise your level cap. In the quest book, this starts with "Evolution" quest, and "Series" quest covers the details.[1][3][4]
Right-click the card to see every trainer you've fought, plus the trainers in your Series. Each trainer shows a name and a level cap, and you can click the right arrow to see which biomes they spawn in. Series trainer names look random until you view them. If you beat a Series trainer with a higher level cap, your own cap goes up.[4]
Here is where the pack's quest book puts it. In the Getting Started chapter, "Evolution" quest asks you to get a Trainer Card, and it comes after Leveling up your Pokemon. The Evolution chapter then continues with "Series" quest, which comes after Level Caps and explains the card and your Series in detail.[3][4]
Useful extras
- Trainer Spawner: place a Series trainer's Signature Item in it, then give it a Redstone signal to make that trainer appear in front of you. This saves you from wandering around looking for them. Its quest, a quest in "Evolution", comes after Series.[4]
- Trainer Repel Rod: place it down and trainers won't spawn near it. Its quest, a quest in "Evolution", also comes after Series.[4]
After the credits
Becoming champion isn't the end. Stronger trainers give better loot, and completing multiple series again permanently boosts your luck.[1]
How do you get started with Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
4 parts
Welcome to the trainer side of the pack! Radical Cobblemon Trainers adds trainers that spawn naturally in your world, and it also changes how high your Pokémon can level. Your level cap stays put until you defeat a certain key trainer, such as a leader. Everything below is about finding out who that trainer is and getting to them.[1][3]
Step 1: Make a Trainer Card
Your first item is the Trainer Card. You can craft it, or trade for it with a Trainer Associate, which is a villager. The card helps you keep track of your progress. Right-click it to see who your trainers are and stats on trainers you've already fought. The quest "Evolution" quest in the Getting Started chapter covers this step.[1][3]

The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default.
Step 2: Get your Series
Next, give a Trainer Card to a Trainer Associate and they'll give you a Series. It tells you which trainer you need to defeat to raise your level cap. Trainers in a Series show random names until you view them on the card. After that, the card shows their name and level cap. If you beat a Series trainer with a higher level cap, your own level cap goes up. The Right Arrow on the card also shows the biomes a trainer spawns in. The quest "Series" quest in the Evolution chapter covers this.[3][4]
Step 3: Craft a Trainer Spawner
Wandering around biomes to find one specific trainer can take forever. The Trainer Spawner fixes that. The same screen that lists the biomes for a Series trainer also shows a Signature Item. Place that item in the spawner, then give the spawner a Redstone signal and the trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle. The quest a quest in "Evolution" comes right after the Series quest and covers it.[4]

Step 4: Keep trainers away with a Repel Rod
Sometimes you don't want a battle. Place a Trainer Repel Rod and trainers won't spawn near it. The quest a quest in "Evolution" also follows the Series quest and covers it.[4]

How does Radical Cobblemon Trainers work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
In this pack, the mod's core systems are trainer spawning and the level cap that gates your progression. The sources here describe no machines, multiblocks or automation for it. The mod adds over 1500 trainers that spawn naturally in your world. Most of how it works is controlled from Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks and the other options in the server config.[1][6]
How trainers spawn
The mod makes one spawn attempt per player every 180 ticks, set by Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks. Whether an attempt goes ahead depends on Spawning.globalSpawnChance, which is 0.85 in this pack.[6]
The more trainers you already have around you, the lower that chance gets. It shrinks toward Spawning.globalSpawnChanceMinimum, which is 0.1. You only hit that minimum when there's one free spot left under your cap.[6]
The pack lowers Spawning.maxTrainersPerPlayer to 8, where the mod default is 12. The overall cap, Spawning.maxTrainersTotal, stays at 60.[6]
- Distance: trainers spawn at least 25 blocks away horizontally (Spawning.minHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) and at most 70 blocks away (Spawning.maxHorizontalDistanceToPlayers). Vertically the limit is 30 blocks (Spawning.maxVerticalDistanceToPlayers).[6]
- Despawning: a non-persistent trainer despawns if it has had no line of sight to any player for 6000 ticks (Spawning.despawnTicksIfUnseen). A negative value turns this off.[6]
- Biomes and dimensions: the biome tag and dimension whitelists and blacklists are all empty in this pack, so they don't restrict anything. They are Spawning.biomeTagWhitelist, Spawning.biomeTagBlacklist, Spawning.dimensionWhitelist and Spawning.dimensionBlacklist.[6]
Level difference and the Trainer Card
Spawning.maxLevelDiff is 25 here. It limits how far a trainer's strongest Pokémon can be above your strongest one, counted at or below your level cap. The allowed difference scales linearly with your level relative to 100 and won't go below 4. For example, at level 20 the result is 5. Key trainers are an exception and can always spawn up to the configured difference. Spawn weight drops as the level difference grows.[6]
In this pack, Spawning.spawningRequiresTrainerCard is on. Trainers only spawn naturally around players carrying a Trainer Card in their inventory. This doesn't affect trainer spawners.[1][6]
The Trainer Card also helps you track your progress and look up information about trainers. It can point you to the next key trainer when one spawns nearby.[1]
Level cap and series
Your Pokémon can't gain experience once they are at or above your level cap. You lift the cap by defeating the next key trainer, such as a leader. The cap follows the strongest Pokémon on the next required trainer's team in your series, plus Players.relativeLevelCap, which is 0 in this pack.[1][6]
- Players.initialLevelCap is 15, the same as the mod default.[6]
- Players.allowOverLeveling is off, so the level cap does stop experience gain.[6]
- Players.initialSeries is "empty", so you start without a series. You pick a journey by seeking out the Trainer Association.[1][6]
- The freeroam series grants a level cap of 100 and lets you pause your current series. With Players.freeroamRequiresCompletedSeries on, you must complete another series first to get access to it.[6]
Trainer items
The pack changes the recipes of the Trainer Card, the Trainer Repel Rod and the Trainer Spawner. The blocks below show each in-pack recipe.[7]

How do you progress through Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
2 parts
Radical Trainers is a Cobblemon addon that adds Trainers and also changes the levels your Pokemon can reach. Your Level Cap stays where it is until you defeat a certain Trainer. In this pack the quest book walks you through it as a chain of quests built around the Trainer Card.[3]
The progression path
- Get a Trainer Card in the "Evolution" quest quest, which comes after "Leveling up your Pokemon" in the Getting Started chapter. You can craft one or trade for one with a Trainer Associate, which is a Villager.[3]
- Take the card to a Trainer Associate for your Series, which is the "Series" quest quest in the Evolution chapter. Give them a Trainer Card and they give you a Series. It tells you which Trainer you need to defeat to raise your Level Cap.[3][4]
- Right Click the Trainer Card to read it. It shows the Name and Level Cap of every Trainer you have fought, and of the Trainer in your Series. The right arrow shows the biomes a Trainer spawns in.[4]
- Beat a Series Trainer who has a higher Level Cap and your own Level Cap goes up. Series Trainer names look random until you view them on the card, and then the real Name and Level Cap show.[4]
The Trainer Card recipe is changed by the pack, so this is the pack's version:[5]

Finding and managing Trainers
The Series quest leads on to the Trainer Spawner and Trainer Repel Rod quests. Both unlock after it.[4]
First up is the Trainer Spawner, for when you don't want to wander around looking for a specific Trainer. The Series Trainer's biomes appear on the card, and a Signature Item appears there too. Place that Signature Item in the Trainer Spawner, then give the Spawner a Redstone Signal. The Series Trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle.[4]

Then there is the Trainer Repel Rod, for when there are too many visitors. Place it down and Trainers won't spawn near it.[4]

Which All the Mons quests use Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
2 parts
Radical Cobblemon Trainers appears in the Getting Started and Evolution quest chapters of this pack. Both revolve around the Trainer Card and the Level Cap system the mod adds, so here they are in the order you'll meet them.[3][4]
Getting Started
The quest "Evolution" quest sits in this chapter and unlocks after the quest "Leveling up your Pokemon". It asks you to get a Trainer Card. You can craft one or trade for one with a Trainer Associate, which is a villager.[3]
The quest explains the big idea: the mod is a Cobblemon addon that adds Trainers and also changes the levels your Pokemon can reach, until you defeat a certain Trainer. Trainer Associates can also give you a Series, which tells you which Trainer you need to beat to raise your Level Cap. Right-click the Trainer Card to see who that Trainer is, plus stats on Trainers you've already fought.[3]
The Evolution chapter
This chapter continues the story. It starts with "Series" quest, which comes after the quest "Level Caps". The remaining quests both unlock after that Series quest.[4]
- "Series" quest: hand in a Trainer Card. You can give a Trainer Associate items to receive a Trainer Card, or give them a Trainer Card to receive a Series. In the card you can see every Trainer you've fought, or the Trainer in your Series, with their name and Level Cap. The right arrow shows the biomes they spawn in. Beating a Series Trainer with a higher Level Cap raises your own.[4]
- a quest in "Evolution": this asks for a Trainer Spawner, which saves you from wandering around looking for a specific Trainer. Next to the biomes for a Series Trainer, you'll find a Signature Item. Place that item in the spawner, give the spawner a Redstone signal, and the Series Trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle.[4]
- a quest in "Evolution": this asks for a Trainer Repel Rod. If you have too many visitors, place the rod down and Trainers won't spawn near it.[4]
Which Radical Cobblemon Trainers config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
The options below all live in config/rctmod-server.toml. Only one of them is marked as changed from the mod default in this pack, and then there's a handful of settings worth knowing about.[6]
The one value the pack changed
Spawning.maxTrainersPerPlayer is set to 8 in this pack. The mod default is 12. This is the spawn cap of trainers per player, so you'll see fewer naturally spawned trainers around you at once than the mod would normally give you.[6]
Level cap and progression
- Players.initialLevelCap is 15, the same as the mod default. Pokemon at or above the cap gain no experience.[6]
- Players.relativeLevelCap is 0. The cap is based on the strongest Pokemon of your next required trainer in a series, and this value is added on top of it (it can be negative).[6]
- Players.allowOverLeveling is false, so the level cap does stop your Pokemon from gaining experience.[6]
- Players.initialSeries is "empty", so you start a new world with no series.[6]
- Players.freeroamRequiresCompletedSeries is true. You must complete another series before you can get the freeroam series (level cap of 100) through the trade at the trainer association.[6]
Spawning
- Spawning.spawningRequiresTrainerCard is true. Trainers only spawn naturally around players carrying a trainer card, and trainer spawners aren't affected.[6]
- Spawning.spawnTrainerAssociation is true, so a Trainer Association NPC can spawn near card carriers who haven't started a series or have completed their current one. One can also appear near villages.[6]
- A spawn attempt happens every 180 ticks (Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks). As your cap fills, that stretches towards 2,400 ticks (Spawning.spawnIntervalTicksMaximum).[6]
- Spawning.globalSpawnChance is 0.85 and shrinks towards 0.1 (Spawning.globalSpawnChanceMinimum) as your trainer slots fill up.[6]
- Trainers spawn between 25 blocks (Spawning.minHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) and 70 blocks (Spawning.maxHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) away horizontally, and up to 30 blocks away vertically (Spawning.maxVerticalDistanceToPlayers).[6]
- Spawning.despawnTicksIfUnseen is 6,000. Non-persistent trainers with no line of sight to any player for that long will despawn.[6]
- Spawning.maxLevelDiff is 25. It limits how much stronger a trainer's best Pokemon can be than yours for them to spawn for you, and it scales with your level.[6]
- Spawning.uniqueTrainerRadius is 5. Instead of blocking a trainer if the same one exists anywhere in the world, the mod only checks within that radius.[6]
- The biome and dimension whitelists and blacklists (Spawning.biomeTagWhitelist, Spawning.biomeTagBlacklist, Spawning.dimensionWhitelist, Spawning.dimensionBlacklist) are all empty, so no restrictions are applied.[6]
Battles on sight
Trainers.forceBattleOnSight is true, so trainers can force a battle when you look at each other. It takes 60 ticks of staring (Trainers.forceBattleLookTicks), from up to 8 blocks away (Trainers.forceBattleMaxDistance), and only if the level difference is at most 16 (Trainers.forceBattleMaxLevelDiff). The look time, distance and level difference all match the mod defaults.[6]
Debug logging
Debug.logSpawning and Debug.logRepelRods are both false. Turn them on if you're troubleshooting why trainers do or don't spawn, since they print extra info to the log.[6]
What changed in Radical Cobblemon Trainers between versions?
1 part
All the Mons 0.6.0-beta ships Radical Cobblemon Trainers 0.17.4-beta. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so this is the version you are playing with.[2]
0.17.4-beta (2025-11-30)
This is the release the pack currently includes. Here is what changed in it:[2][8]
- Changed: trainers no longer force you into a battle while you are actively looking into a container. Your own player inventory does not count, so it won't hold a battle off.[8]
- Fixed: a bug where Pokemon belonging to players would attack trainers that were targeting or looking at their owners.[8]
- Removed: you can no longer summon trainer entities with the vanilla /summon command. Use /rctmod trainer summon instead.[8]
Unverified Changes to this mod in earlier releases, and any pack changelog entries about it, are not covered here.
