What is Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
3 parts
Radical Cobblemon Trainers is a Cobblemon addon that fills your world with over 1,500 trainers drawn from the ROM hacks Radical Red and Unbound, plus Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. They spawn naturally, and different trainers show up in different biomes. If you want Cobblemon to feel like a proper gym-and-champion journey, this is the mod for it.[1]
The pack includes version 0.17.6-beta of the mod.[2]
Level caps and your progression
This mod changes how far your Pokémon can level. Pokémon in your party that are below the level cap gain no experience until you defeat the next key trainer, such as a gym leader. Beating a trainer with a higher level cap in your Series raises your cap.[1][3]
The pack introduces this early, in the Getting Started chapter with the quest "Evolution" quest, which comes after the leveling quest. The follow-up quest "Series" quest sits in the Evolution chapter after the Level Caps quest.[3][4]
The key items
- Trainer Card: tracks your progress and shows info on trainers you have fought or the ones in your Series, including their name, level cap and the biomes they spawn in. When a key trainer is spawned nearby, it helps you locate them. You can craft one or trade for one with a Trainer Associate.[1][3][4]
- Trainer Associates: villagers that spawn around you when you hold a Trainer Card and have no Series, and also in villages. They can give you a Trainer Card for items, or a Series if you hand over a Trainer Card.[3][4]
- Trainer Spawner: summons a specific Series trainer in front of you when it gets a Redstone signal. You place that trainer's Signature Item inside it first.[3]
- Trainer Repel Rod: place it down and trainers won't spawn near it. The quest "Trainer Repel Rod" quest notes it doesn't tell you the exact area it covers, but it doesn't stop Trainer Spawners from working.[3][5]
After you become champion
The mod keeps going after the champion fight. You can seek out stronger trainers for better loot, or complete multiple series again to permanently boost your luck.[1]
The mod also has many config options and extensive data pack support, so addons can add extra series and trainers. Which of those addons are installed in this pack is unverified.[1]
How do you get started with Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
4 parts
Radical Cobblemon Trainers adds trainers to your world and also changes how high your Pokémon can level. Your level cap stays put until you defeat a certain trainer, so the first job is getting the tools that show you who to fight next. Here is the order I'd go in.[1][4]
Step one: get a Trainer Card
The Trainer Card comes first. You can craft it or trade for it with a Trainer Associate. The pack's quest book introduces it in the Getting Started chapter with the quest "Evolution" quest, which comes after the leveling up quest.[4]

The pack changes this recipe, so go by this one.
Right-click the card to see info on every trainer you've fought. If you have a Series, it also shows the trainer in that Series. For each trainer you can see their name and level cap, and the right arrow shows the biomes they spawn in.[3][4]
Step two: find a Trainer Associate and get a Series
Trainer Associates are Villagers. They spawn around you when you hold the card out and don't have a Series, and they also spawn in Villages. When one is close, the card glows like it's enchanted and an arrow above it points to them.[3][4]
Give an Associate a Trainer Card and they'll give you a Series. The Series tells you which trainer you need to defeat to raise your level cap. If you beat a trainer in your Series who has a higher level cap, yours goes up. Series trainer names look random until you view them on the card, and then the real name and level cap show. The quest "Series" quest in the Evolution chapter walks you through this.[3][4]
Step three: craft a Trainer Spawner
Walking around to find one specific trainer can take forever. The Trainer Spawner fixes that. The screen on the card that shows a Series trainer's biomes also shows a Signature Item. Put that item inside the Spawner, then give the Spawner a Redstone signal and that Series trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle. The quest a quest in "Evolution" comes right after Series and covers it.[3]

Step four: keep unwanted trainers away
If trainers keep showing up where you don't want them, place a Trainer Repel Rod and they won't spawn near it. The quest a quest in "Evolution" also follows Series, and "Trainer Repel Rod" quest in the Tips and Poke Tricks chapter covers it as well.[3][5]

How does Radical Cobblemon Trainers work?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
In this pack, the mod's core systems are trainer spawning and the level cap that gates your progression. The sources here describe no machines, multiblocks or automation for it. The mod adds over 1500 trainers that spawn naturally in your world. Most of how it works is controlled from Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks and the other options in the server config.[1][7]
How trainers spawn
The mod makes one spawn attempt per player every 180 ticks, set by Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks. Whether an attempt goes ahead depends on Spawning.globalSpawnChance, which is 0.85 in this pack.[7]
The more trainers you already have around you, the lower that chance gets. It shrinks toward Spawning.globalSpawnChanceMinimum, which is 0.1. You only hit that minimum when there's one free spot left under your cap.[7]
The pack lowers Spawning.maxTrainersPerPlayer to 8, where the mod default is 12. The overall cap, Spawning.maxTrainersTotal, stays at 60.[7]
- Distance: trainers spawn at least 25 blocks away horizontally (Spawning.minHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) and at most 70 blocks away (Spawning.maxHorizontalDistanceToPlayers). Vertically the limit is 30 blocks (Spawning.maxVerticalDistanceToPlayers).[7]
- Despawning: a non-persistent trainer despawns if it has had no line of sight to any player for 6000 ticks (Spawning.despawnTicksIfUnseen). A negative value turns this off.[7]
- Biomes and dimensions: the biome tag and dimension whitelists and blacklists are all empty in this pack, so they don't restrict anything. They are Spawning.biomeTagWhitelist, Spawning.biomeTagBlacklist, Spawning.dimensionWhitelist and Spawning.dimensionBlacklist.[7]
Level difference and the Trainer Card
Spawning.maxLevelDiff is 25 here. It limits how far a trainer's strongest Pokémon can be above your strongest one, counted at or below your level cap. The allowed difference scales linearly with your level relative to 100 and won't go below 4. For example, at level 20 the result is 5. Key trainers are an exception and can always spawn up to the configured difference. Spawn weight drops as the level difference grows.[7]
In this pack, Spawning.spawningRequiresTrainerCard is on. Trainers only spawn naturally around players carrying a Trainer Card in their inventory. This doesn't affect trainer spawners.[1][7]
The Trainer Card also helps you track your progress and look up information about trainers. It can point you to the next key trainer when one spawns nearby.[1]
Level cap and series
Your Pokémon can't gain experience once they are at or above your level cap. You lift the cap by defeating the next key trainer, such as a leader. The cap follows the strongest Pokémon on the next required trainer's team in your series, plus Players.relativeLevelCap, which is 0 in this pack.[1][7]
- Players.initialLevelCap is 15, the same as the mod default.[7]
- Players.allowOverLeveling is off, so the level cap does stop experience gain.[7]
- Players.initialSeries is "empty", so you start without a series. You pick a journey by seeking out the Trainer Association.[1][7]
- The freeroam series grants a level cap of 100 and lets you pause your current series. With Players.freeroamRequiresCompletedSeries on, you must complete another series first to get access to it.[7]

The pack changes the recipes of the Trainer Card, the Trainer Repel Rod and the Trainer Spawner. The blocks below show each in-pack recipe.[8]

How do you progress through Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
4 parts
Radical Trainers is a Cobblemon addon that adds Trainers and also changes the levels your Pokémon can reach, until you defeat a certain Trainer. Progression here is about raising your Level Cap by beating the right Trainers. The pack's quests walk you through it in order.[4]
Get a Trainer Card
Everything starts with the quest "Evolution" quest in the Getting Started chapter, which unlocks after the quest about leveling up your Pokémon. You need a Trainer Card. You can craft one or trade for one with a Trainer Associate.[4]

The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default.
Trainer Associates are Villagers. They spawn around you if you hold your Trainer Card out and don't have a set Series, and they also spawn in Villages. When one is close enough, the card glows like it's enchanted and an arrow above it points to the Associate.[3][4]
Get your Series
The "Series" quest quest comes next, after the Level Caps quest. Give a Trainer Card to a Trainer Associate and they'll give you a Series, which tells you which Trainer you need to defeat to raise your Level Cap.[3][4]
Right-click the Trainer Card to see info on every Trainer you've fought and on the Trainer in your Series. You can see each Trainer's name and Level Cap, and the right arrow shows the biomes they spawn in. Series Trainers' names look random until you view them. If you beat a Trainer with a higher Level Cap in a Series, your Level Cap increases.[3]
Track down Trainers
Once you have a Series, the quest a quest in "Evolution" points you to the Trainer Spawner. Searching every biome by hand takes forever, so the quest recommends crafting one. Next to the biomes in the Trainer info you'll find a Signature Item. Place that item in the spawner, then give the spawner a Redstone signal and that Series Trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle.[3]

Keep unwanted Trainers away
If Trainers are showing up too often, the quest a quest in "Evolution" (also unlocked after Series) introduces the Trainer Repel Rod. Place it down and Trainers won't spawn near it. The Tips and Poke Tricks chapter has a matching quest, "Trainer Repel Rod" quest, which notes that it doesn't stop Trainer Spawners from working.[3][5]

Which All the Mons quests use Radical Cobblemon Trainers?
4 parts
Radical Cobblemon Trainers shows up in three quest chapters in the pack: Getting Started, Evolution, and Tips and Poke Tricks. Together they take you from your first Trainer Card to summoning specific trainers and keeping unwanted ones away.[3][4][5]
Quest order
The sources only give prerequisites within each chapter, so they don't confirm how the three chapters link to each other. Here is the order inside each one.[3][4][5]
- Getting Started: "Evolution" quest asks you to obtain a Trainer Card. It unlocks after the quest "Leveling up your Pokemon". It explains that the mod changes how high your Pokemon's levels can go until you defeat a certain trainer.[4]
- Evolution chapter: "Series" quest also asks for a Trainer Card. It comes after the quest "Level Caps".[3]
- Evolution chapter: a quest in "Evolution" asks for a Trainer Spawner and unlocks after Series.[3]
- Evolution chapter: a quest in "Evolution" asks for a Trainer Repel Rod and also unlocks after Series.[3]
- Tips and Poke Tricks: "Trainer Repel Rod" quest asks for a Trainer Repel Rod again. No prerequisite is listed for it.[5]
Getting your Trainer Card
The quest tells you to either craft a Trainer Card or trade for one with a Trainer Associate. Trainer Associates spawn around you if you hold the card out and don't have a set Series, or if you are near a Village. When one is close enough, the card glows like it's enchanted, and an arrow above it in your hand points to the Associate.[4]
These villagers can also give you your Series, which tells you which trainer you need to defeat to raise your level cap. Right-click the card to see who that trainer is, plus stats on trainers you've already fought.[4]
Series and level caps
The Series quest goes deeper on the card. Trainer Associates are villagers, and they also spawn naturally in Villages. You can give them items to receive a card, or hand over a card to get a Series. In the card's info screen you can see each trainer's name and level cap, and the right arrow shows the biomes they spawn in.[3]
Series trainers have random-looking names until you view them. If you beat a trainer in your Series who has a higher level cap, your own level cap goes up.[3]
Finding and avoiding trainers
The quest after Series suggests crafting a Trainer Spawner so you don't have to wander around looking for a trainer. The same screen that shows a Series trainer's biomes also shows a Signature Item. Place that item in the spawner, give the spawner a redstone signal, and that trainer appears in front of you, ready to battle.[3]
The other quest after Series covers the Trainer Repel Rod. Place it down and trainers won't spawn near it. The Tips and Poke Tricks chapter repeats this for anyone with too many unwanted trainers.[3][5]
Unverified The exact area in which the Trainer Repel Rod blocks trainer spawns is not confirmed. The quest itself says it doesn't tell you.
Which Radical Cobblemon Trainers config options matter?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
The options below all live in config/rctmod-server.toml. Only one of them is marked as changed from the mod default in this pack, and then there's a handful of settings worth knowing about.[7]
The one value the pack changed
Spawning.maxTrainersPerPlayer is set to 8 in this pack. The mod default is 12. This is the spawn cap of trainers per player, so you'll see fewer naturally spawned trainers around you at once than the mod would normally give you.[7]
Level cap and progression
- Players.initialLevelCap is 15, the same as the mod default. Pokemon at or above the cap gain no experience.[7]
- Players.relativeLevelCap is 0. The cap is based on the strongest Pokemon of your next required trainer in a series, and this value is added on top of it (it can be negative).[7]
- Players.allowOverLeveling is false, so the level cap does stop your Pokemon from gaining experience.[7]
- Players.initialSeries is "empty", so you start a new world with no series.[7]
- Players.freeroamRequiresCompletedSeries is true. You must complete another series before you can get the freeroam series (level cap of 100) through the trade at the trainer association.[7]
Spawning
- Spawning.spawningRequiresTrainerCard is true. Trainers only spawn naturally around players carrying a trainer card, and trainer spawners aren't affected.[7]
- Spawning.spawnTrainerAssociation is true, so a Trainer Association NPC can spawn near card carriers who haven't started a series or have completed their current one. One can also appear near villages.[7]
- A spawn attempt happens every 180 ticks (Spawning.spawnIntervalTicks). As your cap fills, that stretches towards 2,400 ticks (Spawning.spawnIntervalTicksMaximum).[7]
- Spawning.globalSpawnChance is 0.85 and shrinks towards 0.1 (Spawning.globalSpawnChanceMinimum) as your trainer slots fill up.[7]
- Trainers spawn between 25 blocks (Spawning.minHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) and 70 blocks (Spawning.maxHorizontalDistanceToPlayers) away horizontally, and up to 30 blocks away vertically (Spawning.maxVerticalDistanceToPlayers).[7]
- Spawning.despawnTicksIfUnseen is 6,000. Non-persistent trainers with no line of sight to any player for that long will despawn.[7]
- Spawning.maxLevelDiff is 25. It limits how much stronger a trainer's best Pokemon can be than yours for them to spawn for you, and it scales with your level.[7]
- Spawning.uniqueTrainerRadius is 5. Instead of blocking a trainer if the same one exists anywhere in the world, the mod only checks within that radius.[7]
- The biome and dimension whitelists and blacklists (Spawning.biomeTagWhitelist, Spawning.biomeTagBlacklist, Spawning.dimensionWhitelist, Spawning.dimensionBlacklist) are all empty, so no restrictions are applied.[7]
Battles on sight
Trainers.forceBattleOnSight is true, so trainers can force a battle when you look at each other. It takes 60 ticks of staring (Trainers.forceBattleLookTicks), from up to 8 blocks away (Trainers.forceBattleMaxDistance), and only if the level difference is at most 16 (Trainers.forceBattleMaxLevelDiff). The look time, distance and level difference all match the mod defaults.[7]
Debug logging
Debug.logSpawning and Debug.logRepelRods are both false. Turn them on if you're troubleshooting why trainers do or don't spawn, since they print extra info to the log.[7]
What changed in Radical Cobblemon Trainers between versions?
2 parts
All the Mons 0.9.0-beta ships Radical Cobblemon Trainers 0.17.6-beta, and the mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. The notes below come from the mod's own changelogs for 0.17.4-beta and 0.17.6-beta.[2][9][10]
0.17.6-beta (2026-01-29)
- Fixed: the new nbt argument in the trainer summon commands was not optional the way it was supposed to be.[9]
0.17.4-beta (2025-11-30)
- Changed: trainers no longer force a player into a battle while that player is actively looking into a container. Your own player inventory does not count as a container for this.[10]
- Fixed: Pokemon belonging to players were attacking trainers that were targeting or looking at their owners.[10]
- Removed: you can no longer summon trainer entities with /summon. Use /rctmod trainer summon instead.[10]
