Aquaculture 2 is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 2.7.21. Spices up fishing with a number of new biome-specific fish, recipes, and more! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Aquaculture 2?

1 part

Aquaculture 2 is the fishing overhaul of the pack. It adds over 30 new fish, and each biome type, modded biomes included, gets its own catches. You'll also see fish mobs swimming around in rivers, ponds and the ocean. The pack ships version 2.7.21.[1][2]

It's for you if you like a relaxed side activity that still pays off. Any vanilla or modded rod can catch the new fish. The mod's own rods go further, because you can equip hooks and bait on them, and you can customize them with line and bobbers. You apply those modifiers in the Tackle Box, which also stores extra hooks, bait, line and bobbers.[1]

Caught fish can be turned into fish fillets. The amount depends on the fish, or on its weight if that config option is enabled. Fishing can also give you other loot, including the Neptunium tools and armor. That drop is configurable.[1]

Where it fits in the pack's progression

The quest book gives you a clear rod ladder in the Food and Farming chapter. It starts with "Iron Fishing Rod" quest for the Iron Fishing Rod and continues with "Golden Fishing Rod" quest for the Golden Fishing Rod. Next comes "Diamond Fishing Rod" quest for the Diamond Fishing Rod, and the chain ends at "Neptunium Fishing Rod" quest for the Neptunium Fishing Rod. The first quest unlocks after The Start of a Fisher.[3]

Neptunium gear also shows up in the combat and tool chapters. In Basic Tools, the Neptunium Pickaxe is one of the items that can complete a quest in "Basic Tools", alongside pickaxes from other mods. The Neptunium Sword is the task of a quest in "Basic Tools", which is listed with 7.5 attack damage.[4]

In Basic Armor, "Neptunium Armor" quest asks for the Neptunium Helmet, Neptunium Chestplate, Neptunium Leggings and Neptunium Boots. The quest says Neptunium is a reward from Neptune's Bounty, which you get through fishing, and that it grants buffs underwater.[5]

Tip: If you want Neptunium gear, fishing is the way to get it, so it's worth setting up a fishing spot early.[1][5]

How do you get started with Aquaculture 2?

5 parts

Aquaculture 2 expands fishing with new fish, new rods and customization items, so your first goal in this pack is simple: get a proper rod and start catching things. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step one: make a hook, then a rod

Start with the Iron Hook. It is the base for many of the other hooks in this pack, and it gives a 20% chance to not use durability.[6][7]

Next comes the Iron Fishing Rod. The mod's rods let you equip hooks and bait for extra functionality, though any modded or vanilla rod can still catch the new fish.[1][6]

The pack has a quest for this rod, "Iron Fishing Rod" quest, in the Food and Farming chapter. It unlocks after the quest called The Start of a Fisher.[3]

Step two: line, bobber and a Tackle Box

Customized fishing line and bobbers make your rod your own. The Fishing Line and the Bobber both have their own in-pack recipes.[1][6]

Step three: turn fish into food

Fish you catch can be turned into fish fillets, and how many you get depends on the fish. The mod adds fillet knives in several materials, such as the Wooden Fillet Knife.[1][6]

Step four: climb the rod ladder

The Food and Farming quests walk you through the rods in order: Iron, then Golden, then Diamond, then Neptunium. After the iron rod, the next quests are "Golden Fishing Rod" quest, "Diamond Fishing Rod" quest and "Neptunium Fishing Rod" quest.[3]

Better hooks are built from the Iron Hook too. Two examples are the Redstone Hook, which increases how long you have to reel in a fish, and the Note Hook, which plays an alert when a fish is approaching.[6][7]

Where Neptunium comes from

The last rung is the Neptunium Fishing Rod, which makes fish more likely to bite. Neptunium is a reward from Neptune's Bounty, which you get through fishing, and the Neptunium armor grants buffs while you are underwater.[5][6][7]

Tip: The pack also changes a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe so that it gives a Neptunium Nugget and wax. That is a second source of Neptunium besides fishing.[6]

How does Aquaculture 2 work?

6 parts

Aquaculture 2 is a fishing mod, so the core mechanics here are about rods, hooks, fish and fillets rather than machines or multiblocks. The sources I have don't describe any power, fluid or automation systems for it, so this section sticks to what they do explain.[1]

Rods, tackle and the Tackle Box

The mod adds over 30 new fish. You can catch them with any vanilla or modded rod, or find them swimming in the wild. It also adds its own rods, which let you equip hooks and bait for extra functionality. Fishing line and bobbers can be customised too.[1]

Modifiers and customisation items are applied in the Tackle Box. It also stores spare hooks, bait, line and bobbers, so it works as your fishing loadout hub.[1]

The recipes for the Diamond Fishing Rod and the Bobber are shown below. The Neptunium Fishing Rod makes fish more likely to bite.[6][7]

Hooks

Hooks are where most of the fishing customisation happens. Most of the ones below are built on top of the Iron Hook, so that is the one to get first.[6]

The upgrade path is simple: the Diamond Hook, Double Hook, Note Hook and Gold Hook all start from an Iron Hook, and the Nether Star Hook starts from a Diamond Hook.[6]

Fillets and food

Caught fish can be turned into fish fillets. How many you get depends on the fish, or on its weight if that config option is enabled. This pack has no Aquaculture config file, so I can't tell you which way it is set.[1]

The Neptunium Fillet Knife increases the amount of fillets you get. The recipes for the Stone Fillet Knife and Diamond Fillet Knife are shown below.[6][7]

The pack also adds the raw fillet to a few item tags: raw fish, raw meats, stock ingredients and penguin food. That is how it gets picked up by Pam's Harvestcraft recipes.[8]

Neptunium

Neptunium tools and armor can turn up as fishing loot, and the mod page says this is configurable. Each piece has an underwater perk:[1]

Neptunium material moves between forms through crafting. Nuggets make an Neptunium Ingot, ingots make a Neptunium Block, and a block breaks back into 9 ingots. Blasting any Neptunium tool or armor piece also gives you an ingot.[6]

The pack also gives you a way to get Neptunium without fishing. Its Productive Bees centrifuge recipe for the neptunium honeycomb gives a Neptunium Nugget and wax. The dump marks this recipe as changed by the pack.[6]

How do you progress through Aquaculture 2?

    4 parts

Aquaculture 2 progression in this pack is a fishing-rod ladder: iron, gold, diamond, then Neptunium. The pack's quests follow that order, and each rod has its own in-pack recipe.[3][6]

    The fishing rod quest line

The "Food and Farming" quest chapter walks you up the ladder. It starts after the quest "The Start of a Fisher", and each quest wants the next rod in the chain.[3]

    1. "Iron Fishing Rod" quest: craft the Iron Fishing Rod.[3]
    2. "Golden Fishing Rod" quest: craft the Golden Fishing Rod.[3]
    3. "Diamond Fishing Rod" quest: craft the Diamond Fishing Rod.[3]
    4. "Neptunium Fishing Rod" quest: craft the Neptunium Fishing Rod.[3]

    Getting Neptunium

The Neptunium Armor quest says Neptunium is a reward from Neptune's Bounty, which you get through fishing.[5]

The pack also changes a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe for Neptunium honeycomb so that it gives a Neptunium Nugget and Wax.[6]

Nuggets and ingots convert back and forth, and ingots and blocks do too. That lets you store your Neptunium compactly.[6]

Tip: Finished Neptunium tools, armor, the bow, the fillet knife and the fishing rod can be blasted back into a Neptunium Ingot. Keep that in mind before you toss spare gear.[6]

    Neptunium gear

Once you have Neptunium ingots, the pack has recipes for a full tool set: Neptunium Pickaxe, Neptunium Axe, Neptunium Shovel, Neptunium Hoe and Neptunium Sword. There is also a Neptunium Bow and a Neptunium Fillet Knife.[6]

The "Basic Tools" chapter ties into this. One quest labeled Tier 4 accepts the Neptunium Pickaxe as one of several pickaxe options from different mods. Another, labeled 7.5 Attack Damage, asks for the Neptunium Sword.[4]

The "Basic Armor" chapter has the "Neptunium Armor" quest quest. It wants the helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots, and its text says the armor grants buffs while you are underwater.[5]

How does Aquaculture 2 work with other mods?

    3 parts

Two places in the pack tie Aquaculture 2 to other mods: a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe and a quest that accepts pickaxes from several mods.[4][6]

Productive Bees: Neptunium from the centrifuge

The pack has a Productive Bees centrifuge recipe that gives you a Neptunium Nugget and Wax. The recipe dump marks it as changed by the pack, so don't assume it matches the Productive Bees defaults. The dump lists no item inputs for it.[6]

Neptunium Nugget, WaxChanged by the pack

    Centrifuge (productivebees)

      Recipe id: productivebees:centrifuge/aquaculture/honeycomb_neptunium

This centrifuge recipe is marked as changed by the pack.

Neptunium is normally a fishing reward. The Neptunium Armor quest says it comes from Neptune's Bounty, which you get through fishing, and that the armor grants buffs while you are underwater. The centrifuge recipe gives you another way to get the nuggets.[5][6]

Basic Tools: a shared pickaxe quest

In the Basic Tools chapter, one Tier 4 quest, a quest in "Basic Tools", accepts any one of four pickaxes: the Neptunium Pickaxe, the Swamp Silver pickaxe from Eternal Starlight, the Resonarium pickaxe from Deeper and Darker, or the Utherium pickaxe from Undergarden. Any one of them completes the quest, so you can use whichever of these mods you reach first.[4]

      Aquaculture's own quests

The other Aquaculture quests only ask for this mod's items. The Food and Farming chapter has a rod chain: "Iron Fishing Rod" quest for the Iron Fishing Rod, then "Golden Fishing Rod" quest, "Diamond Fishing Rod" quest and finally "Neptunium Fishing Rod" quest for the Neptunium Fishing Rod. The Neptunium Sword has its own Basic Tools quest, a quest in "Basic Tools", and the armor set has "Neptunium Armor" quest.[3][4][5]

Which All the Mons quests use Aquaculture 2?

      3 parts

Aquaculture 2 shows up in three quest chapters in this pack: Food and Farming, Basic Tools and Basic Armor. The fishing rod line is the main storyline for the mod, and the other two chapters just ask for Neptunium gear.[3][4][5]

Food and Farming: the fishing rod line

This is a straight chain of four quests. Each one asks you to get a single rod, and each unlocks after the previous one. The first quest in the chain comes after a quest called The Start of a Fisher.[3]

      1. "Iron Fishing Rod" quest: get an Iron Fishing Rod. It follows The Start of a Fisher.[3]
      2. "Golden Fishing Rod" quest: get a Golden Fishing Rod.[3]
      3. "Diamond Fishing Rod" quest: get a Diamond Fishing Rod.[3]
      4. "Neptunium Fishing Rod" quest: get a Neptunium Fishing Rod, the end of the line.[3]

Basic Tools: Neptunium pickaxe and sword

Two quests in this chapter involve the mod, and both unlock after the Basic Tools! quest. One is a quest in "Basic Tools", which has no title. It accepts any one of several pickaxes, and the Neptunium Pickaxe is one of them. The others are the Swamp Silver, Resonarium and Utherium pickaxes from other mods. The second is a quest in "Basic Tools", also untitled, which asks for the Neptunium Sword.[4]

      Basic Armor: Neptunium Armor

"Neptunium Armor" quest asks for the full set: Neptunium Helmet, Neptunium Chestplate, Neptunium Leggings and Neptunium Boots.[5]

Tip: The quest text says Neptunium is a reward from Neptune's Bounty, which you get through fishing, and that the armor grants buffs while you're underwater. So the rod line in Food and Farming is a good way to get started on all the Neptunium gear.[5]

Which Aquaculture 2 config options matter?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.60 guide

I can't show you the exact config values this pack uses for Aquaculture 2, because the pack's config files for this mod weren't available to me. So I can't tell you which options the pack changed from the mod defaults, and I won't guess.[1]

The mod's project page does point to two things that can be configured. The number of fish fillets you get from a fish normally depends on the fish type, but it can depend on the fish's weight if that config option is enabled.[1]

The second is the fabled Neptunium tools and armor, which you can get as fishing loot. The project page says this loot is configurable.[1]

Unverified Whether this pack enables weight-based fillet amounts, and whether it changes the Neptunium loot settings, is unconfirmed. The option names and values are also unconfirmed. Check the mod's config file in your own instance before you rely on either behavior.

What changed in Aquaculture 2 between versions?

      1 part

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Aquaculture 2 version 2.7.21. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier. I don't have any pack changelog entries about this mod, so what follows comes from the mod's own changelogs for its most recent releases.[2]

      Recent mod releases

      • 2.7.21 (the version in this pack): fixed a NoSuchElementException that happened when you hooked an entity with a fishing rod. The minnow was also removed from the fishes tag and the raw_fishes tag, for better compatibility with other mods.[2][9]
      • 2.7.19: minor changes so that the Aquaculture 2: Lava Fishing Addon can fully work.[10]
      • 2.7.18: fixed Neptunium armor values not being applied.[11]
      • 2.7.17: a couple of fixes and an updated PT_BR localization.[12]
Tip: The minnow tag change in 2.7.21 is the one most likely to matter in a modpack. Other mods that look for the fishes or raw_fishes tags will no longer pick up the minnow.[9]
