What is YUNG's Better End Island?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
YUNG's Better End Island overhauls the main End island, the one where the dragon fight takes place. The obsidian pillars, End gateways, spawn platform and the portal in the middle of the island have all been redesigned.[1]
The pack includes version 1.21.1-NeoForge-3.1.2 of the mod.[2]
What changes in the fight
- The dragon no longer spawns from the start. It is summoned once a player gets close to the bell tower in the center of the island.[1]
- To resummon the dragon, you place the 4 crystals on 4 bedrock blocks on the floor inside the tower, one in each directional wing. Vanilla crystal positions next to the portal still work, so nobody gets confused.[1]
- The dragon's AI itself is unchanged. This is a redesign of the arena and the way the fight starts, not a harder boss.[1]
Who it is for
If you like a bit more spectacle before you take on the dragon, this mod is for you. It is also a good fit if you already have a world and want the new island in it. The mod provides the /end_island reset command, which tries to reset the dragon fight and replace the old portal and pillars with the redesigned versions.[1]
Compatibility notes
The mod aims to work with as many other mods as possible. With Better End, the island is smaller than in vanilla, so obsidian spikes spawn closer to the center. If any spikes are missing, run /end_island reset while in the End. With Progressive Bosses, the reset command may not properly reset fight progress, so you should also run /progressivebosses difficulty set <player> dragon 0. These notes come from the mod's own page, so they only matter if you have those mods installed.[1]
Unverified The sources I have don't say where this mod fits in the pack's progression, and they don't show it on the ATM Star path. They also don't cover any quests or in-game guidebook entries for it.
How do you get started with YUNG's Better End Island?
4 parts
This mod reworks the main End island where the dragon fight takes place, so your first steps are about how the fight starts, not about what to craft first.[1]
What changes in the End
The obsidian pillars, the End gateways, the spawn platform and the portal in the middle of the island are all redesigned. The dragon's AI itself is unchanged.[1]
- Travel to the End and look for the bell tower in the center of the island.[1]
- Get close to the bell tower. The dragon no longer spawns from the start, and it is summoned once a player gets near the tower.[1]
- Fight the dragon as normal. The pillars and the portal are the redesigned versions.[1]
Resummoning the dragon
The 4 crystals no longer go right next to the portal. Inside the tower you'll find 4 bedrock blocks on the floor, one in each directional wing of the building. Place a crystal on each one to start summoning the dragon again.[1]
The vanilla crystal positions are still supported too, so you can use them if you're used to them.[1]
Using it on an existing world
If your world already has an End, run the /end_island reset command while you are in the End. It tries to reset the dragon fight to its initial state and replace the old portal and pillars with the redesigned ones. Deleting your End dimension files is not enough, you still need to run the command.[1]
If the portal or tower doesn't spawn properly after the reset, for example the portal appears under the island, you can use the full command /end_island reset true to try to place the portal on the surface again. Back up first here too.[1]
Settings you may notice
The mod's language file describes a couple of options. One controls whether the Ender Dragon drops an egg every time it is defeated. The other controls whether the vanilla obsidian platform spawns in the End instead of the revamped platform.[3]
Unverified What values this pack uses for those options is set in the mod's config file, and the sources here do not show it, so check in game.
How does YUNG's Better End Island work?
5 parts
This mod has no machines, power, fluids or item automation. It is a worldgen and boss-fight overhaul of the main End island where the dragon fight takes place. The obsidian pillars, End gateways, the spawn platform and the central portal are all redesigned, and the mechanics below are about how the fight itself changes.[1]
How the dragon fight starts
The Ender Dragon no longer spawns from the start. Instead, it is summoned once a player gets close to the bell tower in the center of the island. The dragon's AI itself is unchanged, so it fights like the one you already know.[1]
Resummoning the dragon
In the redesigned island, the 4 crystals no longer go right next to the portal. Inside the tower you will see 4 bedrock blocks on the floor, one in each directional wing of the building. Place the crystals on these 4 blocks to start summoning the dragon again.[1]
The mod still supports the vanilla crystal summoning positions, so you can use those if you are used to them.[1]
Mod options
The mod's language file describes a pair of general options. One controls whether the Ender Dragon drops an egg every time it is defeated. The other controls whether the vanilla obsidian platform spawns in the End instead of the revamped platform.[3]
Unverified Whether this pack changes either of those options from its default is not shown by the sources here. If you want to check, look in the mod's config file in the pack.
Using it on an existing world
If your End was generated before the mod was added, use the /end_island reset command while you are in the End. It tries to reset the dragon fight to its initial state and replace the previous portal and pillars with the redesigned versions. Deleting your End dimension files is not enough on its own, you still need to run the command.[1]
If the portal or tower does not spawn properly after the reset, for example the portal appears under the island, you can run the full command /end_island reset true to try to place the portal on the surface again. Back up your world first for this one too.[1]
Compatibility notes
The mod's project page lists these notes for other End mods. They apply if you also have those mods installed.[1]
- With Endergetic Expansion, End gateways in the Outer End come from Endergetic Expansion instead of this mod, but everything should still work properly.[1]
- With Progressive Bosses, the reset command may not properly reset fight history and progress on its side. After using the command, also run /progressivebosses difficulty set <player> dragon 0.[1]
- With Better End, the island is smaller than in vanilla, so obsidian spikes spawn closer to the center. If any spikes are missing, try the reset command while in the End.[1]
- With Savage Ender Dragon, the crystals this mod adds in the center may rarely respawn if crystal respawning from Savage Ender Dragon is enabled.[1]
What changed in YUNG's Better End Island between versions?
1 part
Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships YUNG's Better End Island 1.20-Forge-2.0.6. The mod was already in the pack by 0.0.45.4 or earlier, so you have had this version for a while.[4]
Version 2.0.6
The mod's own changelog for 1.20-Forge-2.0.6 lists two additions, and both are config options:[5]
- An option to always spawn a dragon egg when the dragon is killed.[5]
- An option to use the vanilla spawn platform instead of the Better End Island platform.[5]
Unverified No pack changelog entries for this mod were available, so it is unverified whether the pack changed either option from the mod's default or changed the mod in any other way.

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as betterendisland, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
