What is YUNG's Better End Island?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

YUNG's Better End Island overhauls the main End island, the one where the dragon fight takes place. The obsidian pillars, End gateways, spawn platform and the portal in the middle of the island have all been redesigned.[1]

The pack includes version 1.21.1-NeoForge-3.1.2 of the mod.[2]

What changes in the fight

  • The dragon no longer spawns from the start. It is summoned once a player gets close to the bell tower in the center of the island.[1]
  • To resummon the dragon, you place the 4 crystals on 4 bedrock blocks on the floor inside the tower, one in each directional wing. Vanilla crystal positions next to the portal still work, so nobody gets confused.[1]
  • The dragon's AI itself is unchanged. This is a redesign of the arena and the way the fight starts, not a harder boss.[1]

Who it is for

If you like a bit more spectacle before you take on the dragon, this mod is for you. It is also a good fit if you already have a world and want the new island in it. The mod provides the /end_island reset command, which tries to reset the dragon fight and replace the old portal and pillars with the redesigned versions.[1]

Watch out: Back up your world before running /end_island reset. The command attempts some major things behind the scenes, and deleting your End dimension files is not enough on its own, so you still need to run the command. If the portal ends up under the island, the full command /end_island reset true tries to place it on the surface again.[1]

Compatibility notes

The mod aims to work with as many other mods as possible. With Better End, the island is smaller than in vanilla, so obsidian spikes spawn closer to the center. If any spikes are missing, run /end_island reset while in the End. With Progressive Bosses, the reset command may not properly reset fight progress, so you should also run /progressivebosses difficulty set <player> dragon 0. These notes come from the mod's own page, so they only matter if you have those mods installed.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't say where this mod fits in the pack's progression, and they don't show it on the ATM Star path. They also don't cover any quests or in-game guidebook entries for it.

How do you get started with YUNG's Better End Island?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Here's the good news: this mod doesn't ask you to craft anything before you start. It redesigns the main End island where the dragon fight happens, so your first steps are about knowing what changed when you get there.[1]

Unverified I couldn't confirm any in-pack recipes or quests tied to this mod, so there is no 'first item to craft' for it and no recipe block in this section.

What's different when you arrive

  • The obsidian pillars, End gateways, the spawn platform and the portal in the middle of the island have all been redesigned.[1]
  • The dragon no longer spawns from the start. It's summoned once a player gets close to the bell tower in the center, so don't wander up to it until you're ready to fight.[1]
  • The dragon's AI itself is unchanged, so the fight plays like the one you already know.[1]

Resummoning the dragon

To summon the dragon again, you place the 4 crystals on 4 bedrock blocks on the floor inside the tower, one in each directional wing of the building. The mod also still supports the vanilla crystal positions, so the classic setup works too.[1]

Using it on an existing world

If your world already has an End, run the /end_island reset command while you're in the End. It tries to reset the dragon fight to its initial state and replace the old portal and pillars with the redesigned versions. Back up your world first, because it does some major things behind the scenes. Deleting your End dimension files is not enough on its own, you still need the command.[1]

Watch out: If the portal or tower doesn't spawn properly after the reset, for example the portal appears under the island, you can try /end_island reset true to place the portal on the surface again. Back up your world before trying it.[1]

Options you can tweak

The mod has settings for whether the bell sound plays before the dragon is summoned, whether the dragon drops an egg every time it's defeated, and whether the central tower spawns initially and on resummon. You can also switch back to the vanilla End gateways or the vanilla obsidian spawn platform. I haven't confirmed which values this pack uses for them, so check the config in your own instance.[3]

How does YUNG's Better End Island work?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

This mod has no machines, power, fluids or automation to learn. It is an overhaul of the main End Island where the dragon fight takes place. The obsidian pillars, End gateways, the spawn platform and the central portal have all been redesigned. What matters is how the dragon fight starts and restarts, so that is what this section covers.[1]

Summoning the dragon

The dragon no longer spawns from the start. It is summoned once a player gets close to the bell tower in the center of the island. The dragon's AI itself is unchanged, so only the setup around the fight is different.[1]

To resummon the dragon, the 4 crystals no longer go right next to the portal. Inside the tower you will see 4 bedrock blocks on the floor, one in each directional wing of the building. Place the crystals on those 4 blocks to start the summoning again. The mod still supports the vanilla crystal positions too, so players who don't know the mod aren't left confused.[1]

Options the mod exposes

The mod's option descriptions show what can be tuned. I can't confirm the pack's actual values for any of them, so check the config in your own instance.[3]

  • playBellSound controls whether the bell sound plays before the Ender Dragon is summoned for the first time and during re-summonings.[3]
  • resummonedDragonDropsEgg controls whether the Ender Dragon drops an egg every time it's defeated.[3]
  • spawnCentralTowerInitially controls whether the central tower spawns in the End when the world is first generated.[3]
  • spawnCentralTowerOnResummon controls whether the central tower respawns when the Ender Dragon is re-summoned.[3]
  • useVanillaEndGateways makes the vanilla End Gateways spawn instead of the revamped gateways.[3]
  • useVanillaSpawnPlatform makes the vanilla obsidian platform spawn instead of the revamped platform.[3]

Using it on an existing world

If your world already has an End, use the /end_island reset command while you are in the End. It tries to reset the dragon fight to its initial state and replace any previous portal and pillars with the redesigned versions. Simply deleting the End dimension files is not enough, you still need to run the command.[1]

Watch out: The reset command attempts some major things behind the scenes, so back up your world before you run it.[1]

If the portal or tower doesn't spawn properly afterwards, for example the portal appears under the island, you can try the full command /end_island reset true to place the portal on the surface again. Back up your world first for this one too.[1]

Compatibility notes that affect the fight

  • With Endergetic Expansion, the End Gateways in the Outer End come from Endergetic Expansion instead of this mod, but everything should still work.[1]
  • With Progressive Bosses, the reset command may not properly reset the fight history and progress on its side. If you use the command, also run /progressivebosses difficulty set <player> dragon 0.[1]
  • With Better End, the island is smaller than in vanilla, so obsidian spikes spawn closer to the center. If any spikes are missing, try the reset command while in the End.[1]
  • With Savage Ender Dragon, the crystals this mod adds in the center may rarely respawn if crystal respawning from Savage Ender Dragon is enabled.[1]

Unverified The sources don't describe any machines, multiblocks, power, fluid or item handling for this mod, and no pack-specific config values or recipes were available, so none are covered here.

What changed in YUNG's Better End Island between versions?

1 part

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships YUNG's Better End Island 1.21.1-NeoForge-3.1.2. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mons 0.3.0-beta or earlier, so this is the version you get in 1.3.0.[4]

3.1.2 (the version in this pack)

This is the release the mod's own changelog describes, and it adds several config options:[5]

  • Config options for controlling the spawning of the central tower, which the author says were finally added.[5]
  • A config option for muting the bell sound.[5]
  • A config option for spawning vanilla End Gateways instead of the redesigned gateways.[5]
  • Some Russian translations.[5]
Watch out: The tower spawning options work best on new worlds. If you want to change them on an existing world, back it up first.[5]

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as betterendisland, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
