What is Thermal Innovation?

1 part

Thermal Innovation is the Thermal Series module that adds Thermal-style tools and equipment. The mod's own description sums up the Innovation module as a collection of things that increase player-centric power: useful tools, gadgets and armor.[1]

It is one part of the modular Thermal Series, which also has separate modules for foundation and resources, farming and foods, machinery and industry, compatibility, and rails and minecarts. The whole series requires CoFH Core, so that library has to be installed alongside it.[1]

In this pack

This pack ships Thermal Innovation 11.0.1, in the file thermal_innovation-1.20.1-11.0.1.23.jar. It was already in the pack by version 0.0.45.4, so it is not a recent addition.[2]

The mod's project page lists its feature section as a work in progress, so I won't list individual items here. Anything specific, like recipes, will only appear in this guide once it is confirmed from the pack itself.[1]

How do you get started with Thermal Innovation?

1 part

Thermal Innovation is the Thermal Series module for player-centric power: useful tools, gadgets and armor. If you're looking for big machines, that's a different module. This one is about gear you carry yourself.[1]

It also needs CoFH Core to run, and it is one of several modular Thermal mods. You can run it alongside the others, such as Thermal Foundation for the basics and resources, or Thermal Expansion for machinery.[1]

What I can't tell you yet

I'd love to give you a step-by-step first-items list here, but the sources I have don't include this pack's recipes, quest entries or item descriptions for the mod. Rather than guess at what to craft first and what it costs, I'm leaving the order out, and there are no recipe blocks in this section.[1]

Unverified Which Thermal Innovation item to craft first in this pack, how to craft it, and whether the pack changes any of the mod's defaults could not be confirmed from the available sources.

Tip: Check that CoFH Core is installed, since the Thermal Series requires it. If an item's recipe looks different from what you remember, trust the recipe shown in your game over any guide for another version.[1]

How does Thermal Innovation work?

2 parts

Thermal Innovation is the player-centric module of the Thermal Series. Its project page describes it as a collection of things that increase player power: useful tools, gadgets and armor. So it's about equipment you carry, not a machine or multiblock system you build a base around.[1]

The wider Thermal Series is modular, so you can pick the parts you want. Machinery and industry belong to Thermal Expansion, basics and resources to Thermal Foundation, and logistics and transport to Thermal Dynamics. Thermal Innovation needs CoFH Core to run.[1]

Configuration

The project page says the Thermal mods use a client file called thermal-client.toml in the config folder, and a server file called thermal-server.toml in the serverconfigs folder of each world. On a dedicated server, that folder sits inside the world folder. Copying the server file into the defaultsconfig folder applies its settings to newly created worlds.[1]

What the sources don't cover

The project page's feature list is marked as work in progress, so it doesn't explain how any individual item, power use or automation works. Nothing in the sources I was given describes machines, multiblocks, fluid handling or item handling for this mod.[1]

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as thermal_innovation, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
