What is Simple Tombstone?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Simple Tombstone is part of the pack's mod list. The pack ships version 1.21.1-1.4.4 of the mod, in the file simpletomb-1.21.1-1.4.4.jar. It was already present in the pack by version 1.22.0.[1]

Unverified The sources I have only confirm that the mod is included and which version it is. They don't describe its mechanics, so I can't say from them how it behaves in this pack, such as what it does when you die, how graves are recovered, or whether any config values were changed. No recipes, configs or quests for the mod appear in the sources. The mod is also not confirmed to be on the ATM Star path, and no quests in this pack involve it.

How do you get started with Simple Tombstone?

2 parts

Simple Tombstone has nothing for you to craft before you start. In this pack it is switched on through simpletomb.tomb.enabled, so it handles your death from the very first time you die. Getting ready means knowing what happens when that day comes.[2]

What to know before your first death

  1. When you die, a grave is placed for your stuff. The mod searches up to 8 blocks around you (simpletomb.tomb.search_range) and up to 16 blocks of height (simpletomb.tomb.search_height) for a spot.[2]
  2. You get a chat message every time a tomb is placed (simpletomb.tomb.chat), so check your chat after you respawn.[2]
  3. You are given a Grave Key on death (simpletomb.key.given). The grave can be opened without it, but the key helps you locate the grave.[2]
  4. Extra bonus items within a radius of 2 (simpletomb.tomb.extra_items) are collected into the grave when it spawns.[2]

Getting back to your grave

In this pack the key is named after you (simpletomb.key.named) and opens the grave when used, even if you are not standing on top of it (simpletomb.key.openOnUse).[2]

As a survival player, you can teleport to the tomb once you are within 16 blocks of it (simpletomb.teleport.survival). Creative players can teleport to it ignoring distance (simpletomb.teleport.creative).[2]

Tip: simpletomb.tomb.keep_parts is set to NONE in this pack, so no part of your inventory is set aside to stay with you. Head back to your grave before anything else.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no recipes that produce this mod's items and no quests that involve it, so there is no crafting order to follow. The only settings that are visible live in config/simpletomb.toml.

How does Simple Tombstone work?

5 parts

Simple Tombstone is about one thing: what happens when you die. There are no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid systems to set up. Everything below is controlled by the mod's config file, and the pack's values are the ones described here.[2]

Death handling is switched on in this pack with simpletomb.tomb.enabled. The config notes that turning it off disables almost the entire mod.[2]

Where the grave is placed

When a grave is placed, the mod searches around your death point for a location. simpletomb.tomb.search_range is the maximum range it checks, and the pack sets it to 8. simpletomb.tomb.search_height is the maximum height it checks, and the pack sets it to 16. Both accept values from 2 to 128.[2]

What ends up in the grave

simpletomb.tomb.keep_parts decides which parts of your inventory you keep. The allowed values are NONE, HOTBAR, ARMOR and HOTBAR_AND_ARMOR, and the pack uses NONE.[2]

simpletomb.tomb.extra_items is a radius in which extra bonus items are hunted for and collected when a grave spawns. The pack sets it to 2, the allowed range is 0 to 16, and 0 disables the feature.[2]

The Grave Key

The key is optional for opening a grave, but it helps you locate it. These are the pack's settings for it:[2]

Teleporting to your grave

The key can also teleport you to the tomb. In survival, simpletomb.teleport.survival is the straight-line distance within which you can do this, and the pack sets it to 16. The range is -1 to 128. A value of 0 disables survival teleporting, and -1 allows it at any distance within the same dimension.[2]

Creative players are more flexible: simpletomb.teleport.creative is true, so they can teleport to the tomb with the key regardless of distance.[2]

Tip: If you die far from your grave in survival, remember the 16 distance limit on key teleporting. You will need to travel close before the teleport works.[2]

Chat and log messages

simpletomb.tomb.chat is true, so a chat message is sent to the player every time a tomb is placed. simpletomb.tomb.log is also true, so each placement is written to the server log too.[2]

Which Simple Tombstone config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Simple Tombstone has a small config, and most of it is fine as is. Here are the options you're most likely to care about, and exactly how this pack sets them.[3]

Grave keys

Teleporting to your tomb

simpletomb.teleport.survival is set to 16 in this pack, which matches the mod default. If you're a survival player within 16 blocks (straight-line distance) of the tomb, you can teleport to it. Setting it to 0 disables survival teleporting. Setting it to -1 allows it from any distance within the same dimension. The allowed range is -1 to 128.[3]

simpletomb.teleport.creative is true, so creative players can teleport to the tomb with the key and ignore distance.[3]

Where the grave appears

  • simpletomb.tomb.search_range is 8, the same as the mod default. It is the maximum range checked when looking for a grave location, and it can be set from 2 to 128.[3]
  • simpletomb.tomb.search_height is 16, also the mod default. It is the maximum height checked when looking for a grave location, and it can be set from 2 to 128.[3]
  • simpletomb.tomb.extra_items is 2, matching the mod default. It is the radius in which extra bonus items are hunted for and collected when a grave spawns. Set it to 0 to disable this, or go up to 16.[3]

Death handling and messages

Tip: The options that list a mod default (survival teleport distance, extra item radius, search range and search height) all match it in this pack. The file doesn't show a default for the other options, so you can't tell from it whether the pack changed them.[3]
