What is Simple Tombstone?
Simple Tombstone is part of the pack's mod list. The pack ships version 1.21.1-1.4.4 of the mod, in the file simpletomb-1.21.1-1.4.4.jar. It was already present in the pack by version 1.22.0.[1]
Unverified The sources I have only confirm that the mod is included and which version it is. They don't describe its mechanics, so I can't say from them how it behaves in this pack, such as what it does when you die, how graves are recovered, or whether any config values were changed. No recipes, configs or quests for the mod appear in the sources. The mod is also not confirmed to be on the ATM Star path, and no quests in this pack involve it.
How do you get started with Simple Tombstone?
2 parts
Simple Tombstone deals with what happens when you die. The mod handles player death by placing a grave, and it can give you a Grave's Key on death. The key helps you find the grave again.[2]
What to know before your first death
- Items within a set radius are collected when a grave is spawned. There is also a separate radius for extra bonus items, and setting it to 0 turns that off.[2]
- The mod can give you a Grave's Key on death. The grave can be opened without the key, but the key helps you locate it. A separate setting controls whether a key is required to access graves at all.[2]
- The key can carry your display name in its item name. It can also be set to open the grave on use, even if you aren't standing on top of it.[2]
- Survival players within a set straight-line distance of their tomb can teleport to it. A distance of 0 disables the feature, and -1 allows it at any distance within the same dimension. Creative players can be allowed to teleport ignoring distance.[2]
- A decay timer in minutes sets when a grave stops needing its key. A value of -1 disables it.[2]
- The mod can send you a chat message every time a tomb is placed, and it can log where players' graves are. That helps if you forget where you died.[2]
Settings that change how harsh death is
The mod has options for losing some items on death, both as a chance and as a percentage of items. It also has a PvP mode that lets players open the graves of players they kill. It can spawn creatures after a grave is emptied, and it can use the Ghostly Shape effect. The values this pack uses for these are not shown in the sources here.[2]
Unverified The sources here show no recipes for this mod's items and no quests involving it in this pack, so there is no crafting order to follow. Check the quest book and the recipe viewer in game for anything beyond that. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How does Simple Tombstone work?
5 parts
Simple Tombstone doesn't have machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. It's all about what happens when you die: the mod places a tomb for you, and a few config options decide where it goes, what it collects, and how you get back to it. Here's how that works in this pack.[2][3]
Unverified The sources don't cover the tomb block's own behaviour in detail (its item ids, crafting, or how it looks), so none of that is described here.
Death handling
Everything hangs off simpletomb.tomb.enabled. It's true in this pack, so the mod handles your death. If you set it to false, almost the entire mod is disabled.[2][3]
simpletomb.tomb.keep_parts is set to "NONE" in this pack. The allowed values are NONE, HOTBAR, ARMOR and HOTBAR_AND_ARMOR, so you can choose to keep part of your inventory instead of putting it all in the tomb.[2][3]
Where the tomb is placed
When the mod looks for a spot for your tomb, it checks within a maximum range and height. In this pack simpletomb.tomb.search_range is 8 and simpletomb.tomb.search_height is 16. Both match the mod defaults and can be set anywhere from 2 to 128.[2][3]
The tomb also hunts for extra bonus items when it spawns. simpletomb.tomb.extra_items is the radius for that search. It's 2 here (the mod default, with a range of 0 to 16), and setting it to 0 turns the feature off.[2][3]
The Grave Key
You can open a tomb without the key, but the key helps you locate it. These are the key settings in this pack:[2][3]
- simpletomb.key.given is true, so you get a Grave Key on death.[2][3]
- simpletomb.key.named is true, so your display name is added to the key's item name when a key is dropped.[2][3]
- simpletomb.key.openOnUse is true, so using the key opens the grave even if you're not standing on top of it.[2][3]
Teleporting to your tomb
The key can also teleport you to the tomb. simpletomb.teleport.survival is 16 in this pack, the same as the mod default. In survival, you can teleport once you're within 16 blocks (straight-line distance) of the tomb. The range is -1 to 128. A value of 0 disables survival teleporting, and -1 allows it at any distance within the same dimension.[2][3]
simpletomb.teleport.creative is true, so creative-mode players can teleport to the tomb with the key and ignore distance.[2][3]
Messages and logging
- simpletomb.tomb.chat is true, so a chat message is sent to the player every time a tomb is placed.[2][3]
- simpletomb.tomb.log is true, so every tomb placement is also written to the server log, which helps server admins track down a lost grave.[2][3]
Which Simple Tombstone config options matter?
4 parts
Simple Tombstone has a small config, and most of it is fine as is. Here are the options you're most likely to care about, and exactly how this pack sets them.[3]
Grave keys
- simpletomb.key.given is true, so you get a Grave Key when you die. You can open the tomb without it, but the key helps you locate the grave.[3]
- simpletomb.key.named is true, so your display name is added to the key's item name.[3]
- simpletomb.key.openOnUse is true, so the key opens the grave on use even if you aren't standing on top of it.[3]
Teleporting to your tomb
simpletomb.teleport.survival is set to 16 in this pack, which matches the mod default. If you're a survival player within 16 blocks (straight-line distance) of the tomb, you can teleport to it. Setting it to 0 disables survival teleporting. Setting it to -1 allows it from any distance within the same dimension. The allowed range is -1 to 128.[3]
simpletomb.teleport.creative is true, so creative players can teleport to the tomb with the key and ignore distance.[3]
Where the grave appears
- simpletomb.tomb.search_range is 8, the same as the mod default. It is the maximum range checked when looking for a grave location, and it can be set from 2 to 128.[3]
- simpletomb.tomb.search_height is 16, also the mod default. It is the maximum height checked when looking for a grave location, and it can be set from 2 to 128.[3]
- simpletomb.tomb.extra_items is 2, matching the mod default. It is the radius in which extra bonus items are hunted for and collected when a grave spawns. Set it to 0 to disable this, or go up to 16.[3]
Death handling and messages
- simpletomb.tomb.enabled is true. Setting it to false stops the mod from handling player death at all, which disables almost the entire mod.[3]
- simpletomb.tomb.keep_parts is "NONE", so no part of your inventory is kept on death. The other allowed values are HOTBAR, ARMOR and HOTBAR_AND_ARMOR.[3]
- simpletomb.tomb.chat is true, so you get a chat message every time a tomb is placed.[3]
- simpletomb.tomb.log is true, so every tomb placement is also written to the server log.[3]
