What is FramedBlocks?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
FramedBlocks is a building mod. It adds blocks in lots of different shapes that you can make look like almost any other block in the game. You build with the shape you want, then give it the look of whatever material you like.[1]
This pack includes FramedBlocks 5.11.5, and it has been in the pack since Gravitas 3.7 or earlier.[2]
Shapes you get
The shape list is huge. It covers the basics like cubes, slabs, panels, stairs, walls, fences, doors and trapdoors. It also has many slope and corner variants, some of which can be placed vertically. Beyond that there are less common pieces such as a chest, a flower pot, a one-way window, rail slopes and an item frame.[1]
The basics of using it
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right click it with Glowstone Dust to make it produce light.[1]
- Right click it with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo again.[1]
Unverified The sources here do not show where this pack's quest book places FramedBlocks (its chapter, group, or the quests before and after it), and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses the mod. Check the quest book in game for that.
How do you get started with FramedBlocks?
4 parts
FramedBlocks gives you blocks in lots of shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. In this pack it all starts with one item.[1]
Make Framed Cubes first
Craft Framed Cube before anything else. One craft gives you 4 of them, and many of the other recipes in this pack take a Framed Cube as an ingredient. Make a stack and you are set for the rest of this page.[3]

Turn cubes into other shapes
From the cube you can branch out into Framed Button, Framed Fence, Framed Bookshelf, Framed Bouncy Cube, Framed Blueprint and Framed Stone Button, each with its own crafting recipe in this pack. Here are three to start with.[3]

The pack also has 135 recipes of the framedblocks:frame type, and their ids sit under a framing_saw folder. Some shapes, like the Framed Bookshelf, have both a normal crafting recipe and one of these.[3]
Get the copycat blocks going
The next step up is the Framed Collapsible Copycat Block. One craft from a Framed Cube makes 4 of them.[3]

That block feeds the adjustable double copycat shapes. For example, one craft gives you 2 of Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Panel, and Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Slab works the same way.[3]

Tools and a pack change to know about
The Framed Hammer and Framed Wrench show up as crafting ingredients for the centered shapes. The two recipes below take a Framed Panel to a Framed Centered Panel, and then on to a Framed Centered Slab.[3]
Crafting Shapeless

The pack has changed the recipe for the Framed Iron Trapdoor, so don't assume the mod's default applies. Use this one:[3]

How does FramedBlocks work?
4 parts
FramedBlocks adds blocks of various shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. The sources for this pack cover camouflage, the helper tools and the crafting recipes, so that is what this section explains.[1]
Camouflaging a framed block
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right click it with a fluid container to make it look like the fluid inside. The project page tags this as a 1.19+ feature.[1]
- Right click it with an empty fluid container to remove a fluid camo (also tagged 1.19+).[1]
- Right click it with Glowstone Dust to make it produce light.[1]
- Right click it with the Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]
The Framed Glowing Cube is a separate case: it glows in the dark without emitting light.[1]
Tools that change how blocks behave
The Framed Wrench rotates a framed block, and so does any other item in the forge:tools/wrench tag. On most blocks, which way it turns depends on the face you clicked. The Framed Screwdriver cycles through the different states of the camo block.[1]
Prism blocks (Framed Prism, Inner Prism and the Double Prism Corners) switch on a texture offset automatically, based on where you place them. That stops prism corners from mismatching when you build a bigger surface out of them. If you don't want it, left click the block with the Framed Hammer to toggle the offset.[1]
The Framed Blueprint copies a framed block, including its camo and glowing state. It does not copy the rotation of the block itself.[1]

How shapes are crafted
Almost everything starts from the Framed Cube. Several recipes use it directly, such as the Framed Button, the Framed Bouncy Cube, the Framed Blueprint and the Framed Fancy Activator Rail.[3]

The recipe dump shows three kinds of recipe for this mod's items. There are 124 shaped crafting recipes and 69 shapeless ones that turn framed blocks into other framed blocks. There are also 135 recipes of the mod's own type, framedblocks:frame, and their ids sit under framing_saw. Each of those 135 makes a different result.[3]
Some shapes can be made either way. The Framed Activator Rail Slope has a crafting-table recipe and a framing saw recipe, for example.[3]

Pack changes
The pack changes the recipe for the Framed Iron Trapdoor, so don't assume the mod's default applies here.[3]

In the pack's config, general.fireproofBlocks is set to false. If it were true, framed blocks would be completely fire proof.[4]
How do you progress through FramedBlocks?
5 parts
FramedBlocks has no tech tree, and as far as I can tell from this pack's recipes there is no gate either. Progression here is about which materials you pick up next. Everything grows out of one base block, the Framed Cube, and the rest of the recipes branch off it.[3]
Tier 1: the Framed Cube
The cube is crafted from sticks and any planks, and one craft gives you 4 cubes. Make a stack of these first, because almost every other recipe in the mod uses one.[3]
Crafting Shaped

Tier 2: simple variants
Once you have cubes, a lot of blocks open up using only basic materials. That covers the Framed Bars, Framed Reinforcement, Framed Fence, Framed Button, Framed Stone Button, Framed Bookshelf, Framed Glowing Cube, Framed Bouncy Cube, Framed Target and Framed Blueprint. Here are the exact in-pack recipes for bars and reinforcement.[3]

The Framed Hammer belongs in this tier too. It is the tool that turns a Framed Slab into a Framed Centered Slab, or a Framed Panel into a Framed Centered Panel.[3]

Tier 3: copper and the adjustable blocks
Copper ingots lead to the Framed Collapsible Copycat Block. That block is the starting point for the Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Slab and the Framed Adjustable Double Copycat Panel, whose recipes are shown below.[3]

Tier 4: rails

The framing saw shortcut
Alongside normal crafting, the pack has 135 recipes of type framedblocks:frame, with ids under framing_saw. The dump doesn't explain how that type works, so look at these in game before you plan around them.[3]
Some framing saw recipes do list ingredients. For example, the Framed Bookshelf can be made this way.[3]

Which FramedBlocks config options matter?
5 parts
FramedBlocks has two config files you might touch: a common one and a client one. Here is exactly how this pack sets the options you are most likely to care about.[4][5]
Fire and camo rules
- general.fireproofBlocks is set to false in this pack, so framed blocks are not made completely fireproof. Set it to true if you want that.[4]
- general.camoMessageVerbosity is "DEFAULT". That shows a message when a block with a BlockEntity isn't explicitly allowed as a camo, or when the block is explicitly disallowed. "NONE" hides the messages, and "DETAILED" also warns about non-solid blocks that aren't explicitly allowed.[5]
Looks and performance
- general.conTexMode is "FULL_FACE", so connected textures work on full faces. The config warns that anything above "FULL_EDGE" is at your own risk because of performance impact and unexpected behaviour. Setting it to "NONE" turns connected textures off.[5]
- general.solidFrameMode is "DEFAULT": certain framed blocks without a camo use the default frame texture with a solid background. "NEVER" always uses the plain frame texture, and "ALWAYS" gives every block the solid background.[5]
- general.detailedCulling is true, so all outer faces of framed blocks can be culled, not just full block faces.[5]
- general.forceAoOnGlowingBlocks is true, so framed blocks that glow from applied glowstone dust still get ambient occlusion.[5]
- general.fancyHitboxes and general.discreteUVSteps are both true.[5]
Placement preview and shaders
general.showGhostBlocks is true, so you see a ghost block preview while holding a framed block. If the preview looks broken with shaders, try setting general.altGhostRenderer to true. It is false in this pack, and the config says the alternate renderer may solve issues with certain shaders.[5]
Overlays
Every overlay option is set to "DETAILED" in this pack, which shows full info. You can switch any of them to "ICON" for just an icon, or "HIDDEN" to remove the overlay. These are the options: overlay.camoRotationMode, overlay.itemFrameBackgroundMode, overlay.oneWayWindowMode, overlay.prismOffsetMode, overlay.reinforcedMode, overlay.splitLineMode, overlay.stateLockMode, overlay.toggleWaterlogMode and overlay.toggleYSlopeMode.[5]
Other client options
- general.showButtonPlateTypeOverlay and general.showSpecialCubeTypeOverlay are both true. They show a material or type overlay once a camo is applied, and changing either needs a resource reload to take effect.[5]
- general.showAllRecipePermutationsInEmi is true, so all possible Framing Saw recipes are added to EMI instead of only the permutations using the Framed Cube. The config says this setting only has an effect when EMI is installed.[5]
What changed in FramedBlocks between versions?
