What is FramedBlocks?
2 parts
FramedBlocks is a building mod. It adds blocks in lots of different shapes that you can make look like almost any other block in the game. You build with the shape you want, then give it the look of whatever material you like.[1]
This pack includes FramedBlocks 5.11.5, and it has been in the pack since Gravitas 3.7 or earlier.[2]
Shapes you get
The shape list is huge. It covers the basics like cubes, slabs, panels, stairs, walls, fences, doors and trapdoors. It also has many slope and corner variants, some of which can be placed vertically. Beyond that there are less common pieces such as a chest, a flower pot, a one-way window, rail slopes and an item frame.[1]
The basics of using it
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right click it with Glowstone Dust to make it produce light.[1]
- Right click it with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo again.[1]
Unverified The sources here do not show where this pack's quest book places FramedBlocks (its chapter, group, or the quests before and after it), and they do not show whether the ATM Star path uses the mod. Check the quest book in game for that.
How do you get started with FramedBlocks?
4 parts
FramedBlocks adds building blocks in lots of shapes that can be made to look like almost any other block in the game. Here is the order I'd make things in, so you know where to start.[1]
Make a Framed Cube first
The Framed Cube is the starting point. In this pack it is the base block that many other shapes are made from, including the Framed Bars, Framed Button, Framed Chest, Framed Door, Framed Collapsible Block, Framed Corner Pillar, Framed Bouncy Cube and Framed Blueprint. The Framed Fancy Powered, Detector and Activator Rails start from it too.[3]

Grab the Framed Blueprint
The Framed Blueprint is crafted from a Framed Cube plus paper, so it is cheap once you have the base block. The mod's messages show it is used for copying blocks. They also say a block can currently be impossible to copy, and that copying blocks with fluid camos is not currently possible.[3][4]

Get the Framed Hammer and Framed Wrench
These tools change how placed blocks behave. Hitting a block with the Framed Hammer can make it waterloggable or not waterloggable. It can also set the camo, or leather, as the background of a Framed Item Frame.[4]
The Framed Wrench sets the see-through side of a Framed One-Way Window and switches which faces a block uses for its vertical sloped faces. It also works as a crafting ingredient for rotating some shapes. A Framed Divided Slab and a Wrench give you a Framed Divided Panel (Horizontal), and the reverse recipe exists too.[3][4]

Branch out into slopes and upgrades
Many shapes build on the Framed Slope. A Framed Corner Slope is crafted from a Framed Hammer plus a Framed Slope. The Framed Activator Rail Slope and Framed Detector Rail Slope are crafted from a Framed Slope plus the matching vanilla rail.[3]

Other shapes are upgrades of simpler ones. A Framed Double Slope is crafted from a Framed Slope, and a Framed Divided Slab is crafted from a Framed Slab Edge.[3]

How does FramedBlocks work?
5 parts
FramedBlocks is a building mod, and what the sources explain about it is camouflage and the tools that adjust it, not machines or power. Every framed block can copy the look of another block, and a handful of tools change how the blocks behave.[1]
Camo and light
- Right click a framed block with almost any solid block to make it look like that block.[1]
- Right click with a fluid container to make it look like the fluid inside. Right click with an empty fluid container to remove a fluid camo.[1]
- Right click with Glowstone Dust to make the block produce light.[1]
- Right click with a Framed Hammer to remove the camo.[1]
Hammer, wrench and in-world tooltips
The Framed Hammer does more than strip camo. Tooltips show that hitting a block with it can toggle whether the block is waterloggable. On a Framed Item Frame it switches the background between the camo and leather.[4]
Prism-type blocks, including the Framed Prism, Framed Inner Prism and the double prism corners, turn on a texture offset automatically based on where you place them. This stops prism corners from mismatching when you build a bigger surface. To undo it, left click the block with the Framed Hammer. In the tooltip, an offset texture is shifted by half a block.[1][4]
The Framed Wrench rotates framed blocks, and on most blocks the result depends on which face you click. Any item in the wrench tag works too. Tooltips also show it setting or clearing the see-through side of a one-way window, and switching which faces a block uses for vertical sloped faces.[1][4]
The wrench also appears in crafting. Rotating between the divided slab and the horizontal divided panel is a shapeless recipe that uses it.[3]

The Framed Collapsible Block has a deformed face. Its tooltip tells you whether the split line runs along the steep or the shallow diagonal.[4]
Copying builds with the Blueprint
The Framed Blueprint copies a framed block together with its camo and glowing state. It does not copy the block's own rotation. Fluid camos are the exception: the blueprint cannot copy blocks that use them.[1][4]

Crafting chain
In this pack the Framed Cube is the base of the shape tree. Many shapes are crafted from it directly, such as the Framed Chest and Framed Door. Others build on those shapes: the Framed Double Slope comes from the Framed Slope, and the Framed Divided Slope from the Framed Half Slope.[3]

The framing saw tooltips say it lists all possible items on a keypress and tells you when you have the wrong item or too few items or material. They also warn that an item crafted with additive ingredients loses them.[4]
Pack settings
The client config has some general toggles, and the pack has all of them on: general.detailedCulling, general.discreteUVSteps, general.fancyHitboxes and general.showGhostBlocks. Ghost blocks are the previews you see while holding a framed block.[6]
The overlay options, such as overlay.reinforcedMode, overlay.oneWayWindowMode and overlay.toggleWaterlogMode, accept HIDDEN, ICON or DETAILED. The pack sets all of them to DETAILED, so you get full info on each overlay. Switch one to ICON or HIDDEN if the HUD feels crowded.[6]
How do you progress through FramedBlocks?
5 parts
FramedBlocks has no pack-specific progression gate that I can confirm. What you get instead is a crafting ladder: everything grows out of one starter block, and the recipes show you how to climb. The tiers below follow the in-pack recipes.[3]
The starter: the Framed Cube
Everything starts with the Framed Cube. It is the root of the tree, and it is made from plain sticks and any planks, so you can start building right away.[3]

Blocks made straight from the cube
A big group of blocks is crafted straight from the Framed Cube: Framed Bars, Framed Button, Framed Chest, Framed Collapsible Block, Framed Corner Pillar, Framed Door and Framed Fence. The Framed Blueprint and Framed Bouncy Cube grow out of the cube too.[3]

The fancy rail line starts here too. Framed Fancy Rail, Framed Fancy Powered Rail, Framed Fancy Detector Rail and Framed Fancy Activator Rail are all built on the Framed Cube. Each one also has a sloped version that uses a Framed Slope.[3]
Upgrading shapes into doubles and variants
Once you have the basic shapes, many of the more complex blocks are made by upgrading a simpler shape. Framed Double Slope comes from a Framed Slope. Framed Double Half Slope and Framed Divided Slope both come from a Framed Half Slope. Framed Divided Stairs comes from Framed Half Stairs.[3]

The panel and slab families follow the same idea. Framed Double Slope Panel sits above Framed Slope Panel, and Framed Double Slope Slab sits above Framed Slope Slab. The elevated and extended variants pair a slope piece with a plain Framed Slab or Framed Panel.[3]
Some doubles pair an inner piece with an outer one. Framed Double Corner needs both a Framed Corner Slope and a Framed Inner Corner Slope. The prism and threeway corner doubles work the same way.[3]

Converting between blocks
Several pairs of blocks are linked by shapeless conversion recipes that use the Framed Wrench. For example, you can turn a Framed Double Slope Panel into a Framed Double Slope Slab, and back again. The same trick works for the divided panel and slab, the elevated and extended slope blocks, and double stairs to Framed Vertical Double Stairs.[3]

There are also one-step swaps that don't need the wrench: Framed Fence from a Framed Post, and Framed Corner Pillar from a Framed Pillar.[3]

Rail slopes
Framed Activator Rail Slope and Framed Detector Rail Slope are made by combining a Framed Slope with the matching vanilla rail.[3]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve FramedBlocks, and the mod is not on the main quest path. Only part of the recipe list was available to me, so the recipes for the Framed Slope, Framed Hammer, Framed Wrench, Framed Slab and several other basic shapes are not confirmed here.
Which FramedBlocks config options matter?
3 parts
FramedBlocks has a small set of options, and most of what you'll want to tweak is on the client side. Here is how this pack sets them.[5][6]
Fire behaviour
general.fireproofBlocks is set to false in this pack. That means framed blocks are not made completely fireproof, so keep fire hazards away from your builds. If you want fireproof framed blocks, this is the option to flip.[5]
Visuals and rendering
- general.detailedCulling is true. With it on, all outer faces of framed blocks can be culled. With it off, only full block faces are culled.[6]
- general.discreteUVSteps is true. The UV remapping then uses discrete steps to avoid floating point errors.[6]
- general.fancyHitboxes is true, so certain framed blocks show fancy hitboxes.[6]
- general.showGhostBlocks is true, so ghost blocks are shown while you hold a framed block.[6]
Overlay info modes
The overlay options below accept HIDDEN, ICON or DETAILED. In this pack each one listed is set to DETAILED, which shows detailed info. You can set an overlay to ICON or HIDDEN instead.[6]
- overlay.itemFrameBackgroundMode covers the Item Frame Background overlay.[6]
- overlay.oneWayWindowMode covers the One-Way Window overlay.[6]
- overlay.prismOffsetMode covers the Prism Offset overlay.[6]
- overlay.reinforcedMode covers the Reinforcement overlay.[6]
- overlay.splitLineMode covers the Collapsible Block Split Line overlay.[6]
- overlay.stateLockMode covers the State Lock overlay.[6]
- overlay.toggleWaterlogMode covers the Toggle Waterloggable overlay.[6]
- overlay.toggleYSlopeMode covers the Toggle Slope Face overlay.[6]
