How do you get started with Environmental Materials?

5 parts

Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide

Environmental Materials is a building-block mod, so your first steps are about getting the base stones and then turning them into the shapes and colours you want. In this pack, the main stone recipes were changed, so follow the recipe blocks below rather than any recipe you remember from the mod's defaults.[1]

First, make Basalt

Start with Basalt. The pack changed this recipe, and one craft gives you 8 blocks. It is also the starting point for two of the other base stones, so make a stack of it first.[1]

Then branch into the other base stones

Once you have Basalt, you can make Blueschist and Greenschist. The pack changed both recipes, and each craft makes 8.[1]

Taconite does not need Basalt. It is another pack-changed recipe that makes 8 per craft.[1]

Get Marble

Marble is different from the stones above. The pack adds its own recipe for it, and one craft makes 24 blocks.[1]

Use the stonecutter for shapes

You don't have to hand-craft every variant. The mod has a large number of stonecutting recipes (600 in this pack), so the stonecutter is the quick way to get shapes such as Blueschist Bricks, Blueschist Cobble, Blueschist Cobble Stairs and Blueschist Cobble Wall. Here is the brick one as an example.[1]

  • any blueschist block

Tip: Made the wrong shape? You can turn Blueschist blocks, stairs and walls back into plain Blueschist with shapeless crafting, and two slabs also give you one Blueschist back.[1]

Add colour and glass

Coloured alabaster is made by combining a dye with any alabaster block, and one craft gives you 8. Black Alabaster is one example.[1]

For glass, the mod makes borderless versions from vanilla stained glass, 4 per craft. Black Borderless Glass is one example. A single borderless glass block then makes 16 panes, such as Black Borderless Glass Pane.[1]
