What is respawningstructures mod?

The pack includes the respawningstructures mod at version 4.4, shipped as the file respawningstructures-1.21.1-4.4.jar. The pack's mod list shows it was already part of the pack in this version or an earlier one.[1]

Unverified The sources here do not describe what the mod does in gameplay, because no platform description or in-jar guidebook was available for it. They also do not place it in the pack's quest book, so there is no chapter, group or neighbouring quest to point you to, and nothing shows it on the ATM Star path. Any pack-specific config or recipe changes are likewise not shown here.

How do you get started with respawningstructures mod?

3 parts

This mod works in the background, so your first steps are about knowing the rules this pack sets for it. Respawning is switched on, because enableAutomaticRespawn.enableAutomaticRespawn is set to true.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no crafting recipes and no quests for this mod, so there is no first item to make. The only detail they cover is the pack's config file, config/respawningstructures.json.

What to know first

What can stop a respawn

playerRespawnDist.playerRespawnDist is 120 blocks here, lower than the mod's own default. It sets the minimum distance from your respawn position, such as your bed, that a structure needs to have to be allowed to respawn.[2]

playerNearbyTime.playerNearbyTime is 15 percent. It prevents respawns in busy player areas by tracking how much of the respawn time a player was nearby loading the chunk, and it resets the respawn counter when it blocks a respawn.[2]

Placing and breaking blocks will not block a respawn, because blockCountMod.blockCountMod is 0, which makes respawn ignore placed and broken blocks.[2]

Difficulty and logging

increaseDifficultyWithRespawn.increaseDifficultyWithRespawn is false in this pack, so mobs in respawned dungeons do not get the enchanted items or potion effects the mod can give them. The mod's own default is true, so the pack changed it.[2]

Tip: If you want to check when a structure came back, logRespawns.logRespawns is true, so respawns are written to latest.log.[2]

How does respawningstructures mod work?

4 parts

The only material the sources cover for this mod is its config file, so this section explains how respawn decisions are set up in this pack. Everything below comes from that file.[2]

Automatic respawning

Respawning is switched on through enableAutomaticRespawn.enableAutomaticRespawn, which is true in the pack. Respawns are also written to latest.log because logRespawns.logRespawns is true. That is handy if you want to check whether something actually came back.[2]

The timer is minutesUntilRespawn.minutesUntilRespawn, and it starts after the last activity within the structure. The pack sets it to 120 minutes, which is shorter than the mod's own default, so structures can come back much sooner here.[2]

What can stop a respawn

The first check is distance from your spawn point. playerRespawnDist.playerRespawnDist is the minimum distance from a player's respawn position (a bed, for example) that a structure needs in order to respawn. The pack sets it to 120 blocks.[2]

The second check is how busy the area is. playerNearbyTime.playerNearbyTime tracks what percentage of the respawn time a player was nearby, loading the chunk. If that is too high, the respawn is prevented and the respawn time counter resets. The pack sets it to 15.[2]

The third check is placing or breaking blocks inside the structure. blockCountMod.blockCountMod modifies how much placed or broken blocks count against a respawn. The pack sets it to 0, which means respawning ignores placed and broken blocks entirely.[2]

Tip: Because the pack sets the block count modifier to 0, building and breaking blocks inside a structure will not stop it from respawning on its own. The distance and busy-area checks above are separate settings.[2]

Which structures respawn

The pack turns on whitelist.whitelist, which the config describes as changing the structure blacklist into a whitelist (the mod default is false). So the list in blacklistedStructures.blacklistedStructures acts as an allow-list in this pack rather than a ban-list. It holds the pack's own structures: the ftb:vaults entries (burning_disco, chicken_jockey, create_vault, echoing_dread, mffs, portal), the Twilight Forest vaults (hydra, knight, lich, snow_queen, yeti) and ftb:water_orb.[2]

The same structure ids are also in respawnableStructures.respawnableStructures. Per the config description, structures in that list always respawn, no matter whether a player built inside them or has a portal there.[2]

Dimensions and difficulty

dimensionBlackList.dimensionBlackList is a list of blacklisted dimension ids, and the pack has minecraft:overworld in it.[2]

increaseDifficultyWithRespawn.increaseDifficultyWithRespawn is false in the pack. The mod default is true, which lets mobs in respawned dungeons get enchanted items and potion effects. In this pack that extra difficulty is turned off.[2]

Which respawningstructures mod config options matter?

3 parts

Respawning Structures is controlled by one file, config/respawningstructures.json. This pack changes several values from the mod defaults, so structures come back faster here and with fewer conditions than the mod would normally allow. Here are the options you will most likely care about.[2]

Values the pack changed

Values left at the default

Which structures respawn

blacklistedStructures.blacklistedStructures lists the FTB vault structures (burning_disco, chicken_jockey, create_vault, echoing_dread, mffs, portal and the Twilight Forest hydra, knight, lich, snow_queen and yeti vaults) plus ftb:water_orb. The option's description calls this a list of structures that never respawn. In this pack, though, the whitelist option is on, which changes the list's role to a whitelist.[2]

respawnableStructures.respawnableStructures contains exactly the same entries. Those structures always respawn, even if a player built something inside or placed a portal there.[2]

dimensionBlackList.dimensionBlackList contains minecraft:overworld, so the Overworld is on the dimension blacklist.[2]

Tip: If you edit the file, remember that the list options take multiple entries separated by commas, as the option descriptions say. Check which mode whitelist.whitelist puts you in before changing a list.[2]
